# Chapter 21: The Distance Between Us
Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 21 of "The Breaking Point of Love." This chapter brings us deeper into the emotional turbulence as Celeste returns to the Fleming household, and the cracks in her marriage with Trevor become impossible to ignore.
The dinner gathering had been buzzing with surprise when Trevor casually mentioned having a daughter. The others exchanged glances, whispering among themselves. For years, rumors had swirled that Trevor Fleming had been married for some time, but no one knew who his wife was. Some even whispered that he'd never been married at all. The truth remained shrouded in mystery, and no one dared to probe too deeply. So when Trevor dropped that bombshell about a daughter, many were shocked—but wisely, they held their tongues.
Meanwhile, back at the Fleming mansion, Jordyn was anxiously waiting for her mother to come home. After dinner, she continued her vigil, hoping to hear Celeste's footsteps. By 9:00 pm, after taking a shower, Jordyn was still on edge, her ears straining for any sound from outside. When she heard a car approaching around 10:00 pm, her heart leaped. She rushed downstairs, a bright smile on her face.
"Mom—"
But her cheerful voice died in her throat as she saw Trevor walking in instead.
"Dad?"
Trevor handed his coat to Peter and noticed the disappointment etched on Jordyn's face. "What's wrong?"
"I thought Mom was back..."
Trevor wasn't bothered by that typical "kids only care about their mom" sentiment. He paused for a moment, his expression unreadable. "She's not back yet?"
"Yeah..."
He shrugged, trying to sound reassuring. "She must be busy. Didn't she promise to take you to school tomorrow morning? Go to bed early, and you'll see her when you wake up."
Hearing this, Jordyn's spirits lifted a little. "Okay."
And so she went to bed, clutching the hope that morning would bring her mother back.
Trevor retreated to his study to handle some work. By the time he finished, it was nearly midnight. He had assumed Celeste would have returned while he was busy. But when he stepped into their bedroom, the empty room told him otherwise. Celeste still hadn't come home.
It seemed something was going on with the Rodriguez family, he thought, calmly entering the bathroom.
The next morning, Celeste woke up early. She had promised to take Jordyn to school, and she intended to keep that promise. After a quick breakfast, she drove off.
As her car entered the familiar neighborhood, Celeste felt a strange sense of disorientation wash over her. She had lived here for nearly seven years. Though only about twenty days had passed since she left, it felt like half a lifetime. In reality, nothing in the neighborhood had changed—the same streets, the same trees, the same houses. Yet, Celeste already felt a deep sense of unfamiliarity, as if she were a stranger in a place that was once home.
Peter spotted her from a distance and hurried out to greet her. "Mrs. Fleming, you're back."
Celeste paused at the form of address. *Mrs. Fleming.* That title used to feel like a badge of belonging. Now it felt like a chain. But she didn't correct him. She simply nodded and asked, "Where's Jo?"
"She should still be asleep."
The timing was tight. If Jordyn didn't come downstairs soon, she'd miss breakfast. But Celeste chose not to go upstairs herself. Instead, she asked Hannah to hurry Jordyn along.
Peter asked, "Mrs. Fleming, have you had breakfast? It's ready, would you like some?"
Celeste smiled faintly and shook her head. "No need, I've already eaten."
"I see, okay then."
At that moment, Trevor came downstairs.
Celeste glanced at him and merely gave him a brief nod as a greeting. No smile. No warmth. Just a cold, formal acknowledgment.
Trevor paused mid-step, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. But before he could speak, Jordyn came running down the stairs, her face lighting up as she threw herself into Celeste's arms.
Celeste held her close and gently ruffled her hair. "It's getting late, you should go eat breakfast."
"Okay!"
Trevor had been right when he said she would see Celeste when she woke up. Jordyn was overjoyed. She snuggled closer to her mother, breathing in her familiar scent—that comforting fragrance she had missed so much. Feeling completely content, she pulled Celeste toward the dining room and said, "Mom, come eat with me."
Celeste didn't move. "I've already eaten. You go ahead."
Jordyn whined playfully, "Then at least talk to me."
While the two chatted, Trevor had already sat down at the dining table. He watched them, his expression unreadable.
Celeste couldn't resist Jordyn's pleading and finally sat down across from Trevor. Peter poured a glass of water for her, and she quietly listened to Jordyn enthusiastically recounting events from school the day before. She laughed, she nodded, she engaged with her daughter. But she completely ignored Trevor. She didn't look at him. She didn't speak to him. It was as if he were invisible.
Naturally, Trevor noticed the change in Celeste's attitude. This wasn't the first time. The last time they had been at Fleming Manor, she had acted the same way—cold, distant, unreachable.
Frowning, Trevor paused his eating. He set down his fork, the clink of metal against porcelain cutting through the cheerful chatter. The tension in the room thickened like a storm cloud.
What had happened to the woman who once looked at him with love? What had driven her so far away? And was there any way to bring her back?

### Reader's Impressions & Star Rating
This chapter was a poignant exploration of emotional distance. The contrast between Jordyn's innocent joy at having her mother back and Trevor's growing awareness that he is losing his wife is heartbreaking. Celeste's cold nod, her refusal to eat with them, her deliberate ignoring of Trevor—every gesture speaks volumes. The "familiar neighborhood" feeling unfamiliar to her is a powerful metaphor for how love can become a foreign land. This chapter quietly builds tension without dramatic confrontations, and that restraint makes it even more impactful.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **Rating: 4.6 / 5 Stars**
### Next Chapter Prediction
Something tells me the cold war is about to boil over. Trevor is not a man who accepts being ignored—especially not in his own home. With Celeste's newfound independence and Trevor's mounting frustration, I predict we will see a confrontation soon. Perhaps Trevor will finally demand to know why Celeste is pulling away, or maybe Celeste will drop a bombshell that shatters the fragile peace. Either way, the silence won't last long.
