Celeste didn’t take it. “No need. You can take it back.”
Martha had mentioned before that, for Jordyn’s sake, Trevor had agreed to try and get along with her. Last time at the seminar, he had shown concern. Now, in front of Wynn, he was sending someone with an umbrella again. “He won’t mind,” Celeste said firmly. “You can go.”

Dusk was falling. If she didn’t leave soon, who knew how long she’d be stuck here. Celeste didn’t refuse. “Thank you.”
Beck started to take off his coat, clearly intending to shield her. But Celeste quickly said, “No need. I have a spare set of clothes in the car. If I get wet, I can change.”
Beck paused, then didn’t insist. Still, as they walked out together, he subtly shifted to block the wind for her. Walking down the steps, Celeste asked, “Mr. Harper, were you here for the conference too?”
He wasn’t. Beck had heard from Miles that Celeste had been attending events for days. Since they hadn’t had much to discuss work-wise recently, and he hadn’t seen her in a while — and truthfully, he had missed her — he came. He noticed her ears were red from the cold. He let out a soft “m” and asked, “Do you have time later? Want to grab a meal together?”
He had helped her, and there were still work matters to discuss. A meal together didn’t seem like a big deal.
Celeste replied, “Sure.”
