# Chapter 14: The Night Hannah Walked Into the Wrong Room
Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 14 of "The Deal: Off Campus". This chapter is a masterclass in awkward timing, simmering attraction, and the kind of humiliation that makes you want to crawl under a table—so grab a seat, because Hannah's night goes from sweet to scandalous in record time.
We open at the diner, where Hannah is grinding through another shift full of difficult customers. Relief arrives in the form of Allie and Sean, who slide into a booth together like a couple who have officially decided they are no longer pretending to be casual. Sean drapes an arm around Allie, and Hannah can't help but tease them about being so sweet they give her a toothache. Still, she is genuinely happy for them. Sean may be a frat boy, but he has been loyal to Allie, and Allie has always been the one to pull away when things got too serious. Their little milkshake moment—two straws, one drink—is adorable and sets a warm, romantic tone before the chaos hits.
Allie invites Hannah to a Ryan Gosling movie marathon with the girls, complete with sangria. Hannah is tempted. She doesn't party much, and she has her reasons for avoiding alcohol at parties, but a cozy night with friends sounds like exactly the kind of normal college experience she has been missing. There's just one problem: she has a tutoring session at nine. She promises to call Garrett on her break and see if they can meet earlier. Sean immediately starts teasing her about being "best buds" with Garrett Graham, and Allie backs him up, pointing out that they text and everything. Hannah grudgingly admits they are friends—just friends—and warns Sean to banish his dirty thoughts. Sean isn't convinced. He knows Garrett's reputation: captain of the hockey team, a guy who goes through girls faster than a roll of toilet paper. Everyone will assume Hannah is his next conquest. Hannah shrugs it off, but the seed of discomfort is already planted.
When Hannah calls Garrett, the conversation is a disaster. He answers with a gruff hello over pounding music. She asks to move tutoring to seven. He mishears her, distracted by a house full of people watching the game. Tucker yells for Garrett to beer him, Jay-Z blasts in the background, and Garrett keeps saying nine. Hannah tries to correct him, but he hangs up without a goodbye. She is annoyed, though she has grown used to his time-saving phone habits. She tells Allie she's free for the movie night, and Allie squeals with delight. The stage is set for a fun evening—except for one small, catastrophic miscommunication.
The following night, Hannah shows up at Garrett's house at seven o'clock sharp. She lets herself in as usual. In the living room, she finds Tucker and Dean, who look up in confusion. When she says she's there to tutor their captain, Dean warns her not to go upstairs. Hannah, bless her stubborn heart, ignores him. She marches up to Garrett's room and opens the door.
And freezes.
Garrett is lying on the bed, bare-chested, while a completely naked girl straddles his thighs. The girl whirls around in a cloud of blond hair, her perky breasts on full display, and lets out an ear-piercing screech. Hannah blurts out an apology, slams the door, and races downstairs like a serial killer is chasing her. Tucker and Dean are waiting with grins. Dean asks how the show was, guessing the girl is a screamer. Hannah is so mortified her cheeks burn from the inside out. She tells them to have Garrett call her when he's done—actually, no, tell him he's out of luck. Her time is precious, and she is done tutoring a guy who doesn't respect her schedule. Then she storms out.
She is halfway to Tracy's car when Garrett bursts out of the house. He has managed to pull on jeans, but he's still shirtless and barefoot. He demands to know what her problem is. Hannah fires back that he knew she was coming. He insists she said nine. She reminds him she changed it to seven. The cold air raises goose bumps on his golden skin, and Hannah's gaze betrays her, tracing the line of hair disappearing into his unbuttoned waistband. A flicker of heat moves through her, tight and achy, but she shuts it down hard. She is not going to ride him like a cowgirl just because he's cut. He already has someone else doing that.
Garrett apologizes, but it's a grumpy, half-hearted apology. He admits he screwed up. Hannah isn't having it. She accuses him of disrespecting her time and clearly not wanting to pass the class, otherwise his pants would be zipped and his textbook open. Garrett challenges her, asking if she really expects him to believe she studies twenty-four-seven and never hooks up. The question lands like a slap. Hannah admits she does hook up—just not in a while. When he presses, she confesses it's been a year. Then she tells him to go back to his floozy. Garrett objects to the word, claiming Tiffany could be a Rhodes scholar. Hannah raises an eyebrow. He admits she isn't. But Tiffany is a very smart girl, he finishes darkly. Hannah snorts. Of course her name is Tiffany. She tells him to go back to Ms. Smart and tries to leave.
Then Garrett plays his card. He asks if their date on Saturday is off too. Hannah freezes. She flashes back to Justin finally acknowledging her existence, and she knows if she bails on Saturday, she loses her chance to talk to him outside of class. She needs to be proactive. She can't rely on once-a-week Ethics lectures. So she swallows her pride and mumbles that she'll see him tomorrow. At seven. Garrett's mouth curves into a self-satisfied smile. "That's what I thought."
And that is where the chapter leaves us: Hannah humiliated, angry, attracted against her will, and trapped in a deal that keeps pulling her closer to the one guy she should probably avoid.
Reader's Impressions & Star Rating:
This chapter is painfully funny and painfully real. The secondhand embarrassment when Hannah opens that door is off the charts, but what makes it work is how much it reveals about both characters. Garrett is careless and arrogant, yet his challenge about her own love life exposes Hannah's vulnerability. She is not as in control as she pretends to be. The banter crackles, the tension is thick, and the emotional stakes are higher than either of them wants to admit. I loved the warmth of Allie and Sean, the comedic timing of Tucker and Dean, and the way Garrett uses that Saturday date like a bargaining chip. It's infuriating because it works. This chapter made me laugh, cringe, and ache for Hannah all at once.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.8 / 5 Stars
Next Chapter Prediction:
Hannah will show up for tutoring the next evening with her walls up, and Garrett will either apologize more sincerely or double down on being impossible. The Saturday event with Justin will loom large, and I suspect Garrett will find a way to insert himself, whether out of guilt, jealousy, or pure competitive instinct. Hannah will try to pursue Justin, but every moment with Garrett will make her question what she actually wants. Expect more heated arguments, accidental moments of intimacy, and the slow, inevitable crack in their "just friends" facade. The deal is about to get a lot more complicated.
