Chapter 1100:

After seeing Lauretta off, Christina turned to head back inside. As she walked through the garden courtyard, she suddenly felt the distinct sensation of being watched. Her eyes automatically moved to a second-floor window, but she saw nothing there. Was it just her imagination?

She stared at the empty window for several long seconds before hurrying back toward the house. Dylan had been hiding for quite a while now. She needed to find him quickly, worried that he might have chosen somewhere potentially dangerous as his hiding place.

Just as Christina disappeared from view in the courtyard, a shadowy figure stepped away from the very window she’d been studying.

Dylan gazed down at the path where she had just walked, a subtle but satisfied smile playing at the corners of his mouth. He didn’t linger long, quickly turning away and slipping into a random guest room to hide.

Later, Christina discovered him crammed inside a large wardrobe. “Found you!” she announced triumphantly, her face beaming with delight.

Dylan grinned back as he emerged from his hiding spot. “Chrissie, you’re incredible at this game! Now it’s your turn to hide from me.”

“All right then. You need to stand right here, close your eyes tight, and count all the way to sixty. I’ll find my own hiding place,” Christina said patiently, clearly enjoying their innocent game.

They played several more rounds of hide-and-seek, laughing and enjoying each other’s company, before Dylan finally seemed ready to call it quits.

In Dorfield, Edwin exclaimed, hurrying forward to greet Christina and Dylan as they stepped inside, “Thank goodness you’re finally back!”

Edwin had been running the Scott Group’s branch in place of the CEO all this time, and the strain had worn him down in both body and mind. Now that Christina and Dylan had returned, relief washed over him so strongly that he nearly kissed their hands in gratitude.

“How is Mr. Scott? Has he recovered?” Edwin asked quietly, his voice lined with anticipation.

“Not yet. The company still needs your oversight. I’ll help you until he’s fully recovered,” Christina answered softly.

The upcoming fashion design competition demanded her return, leaving her unable to prolong her stay in Lorbridge. Her plan had been to return alone, but Dylan had insisted on tagging along.

“What?” Edwin’s expression collapsed as his gaze flicked toward Dylan. “I thought Mr. Scott had recovered—that’s why you came back.”

“Mrs. Sc—” Edwin caught himself mid-slip, nearly calling Christina Mrs. Scott. He quickly corrected, his tone turning cautious. “Miss Jones, is there truly no way to speed up Mr. Scott’s recovery?”

“Nothing,” Christina replied gently. The injury to Dylan’s brain wasn’t severe, yet for inexplicable reasons, he hadn’t healed.

A weary hopelessness sank into Edwin. Never had he missed Dylan’s sharpness more than he did now. Ever since stepping in to manage the company’s affairs, he had come to respect even more the tireless drive Dylan always carried.
