Chapter 1136:
Christina had no idea her actions had stirred up outrage among the global elites. After putting those buffoons in their place, she turned her focus back to sketching designs. She never imagined that something so minor could set off such a storm among the world’s most powerful circles.
As for Brendon praying on the mountain, she didn’t need to watch it herself. Countless eyes across the internet were already locked on him, inspecting his every move. If Brendon slacked off even once, he would be torn apart by criticism. Many envied the fact that he had managed to trade that for King’s treating Yolanda, secretly hoping he would somehow loaf on it and lose that privilege. Jealousy had a way of twisting people, dragging out the darkest sides of human nature.
At Dorfield’s highest peak stood a mountain with just over a thousand steps. It was hardly impressive compared to other mountains, yet it remained the city’s tallest landmark. A thousand steps might not sound like much, but it was easier said than done. And Brendon wasn’t doing it just once—he had to do it nine days in a row. The very thought was enough to make anyone flinch.
Curious onlookers gathered in droves to witness the spectacle. Some even took leave from work just for the chance to watch Brendon attempt it. But those who applied too late for leave weren’t lucky enough to get it approved.
“I’ve been waiting here forever! That Mr. Dawson, who made such a big promise, hasn’t even shown his face. Did he chicken out?” one person speculated.
“Hah! He’s all talk. Who would go through that kind of torture for a woman? I’d just marry someone else,” another scoffed.
“Is he really going to ditch us? We came here to see him, and he hasn’t even shown up. Is he making fools out of us?”
The crowd’s chatter only grew louder as Brendon’s car finally pulled up nearby.
“Why are there so many people here? Brendon, are you really planning to do this?” Katie frowned. “Aren’t you worried it could be some impostor pretending to be King?”
It would be a huge humiliation if her brother, the head of Dawson Group, were deceived.

“Impossible,” Brendon answered with confidence. “The way King dealt with those bloggers proved it. No impostor could wield that kind of influence.”
“What if it’s all a setup? If you’re tricked, our family will become a laughingstock,” Katie pressed, her worry deepening. The thought of her brother being turned into a public joke made her cheeks burn with shame.
“That won’t happen,” Brendon said calmly. “I’ve heard the higher-ups are furious about this. Anything that draws their attention has to involve the real King. And if someone dares to impersonate him, his end will be far worse than anything we could suffer.”
Katie’s brows knit tighter, unease still tugging at her. “But…”
“No buts. Don’t you want to save Yolanda?” Brendon lowered his voice.
