Katie laughed lightly. “If Brendon says so, then you will be the world champion. We might as well start celebrating, don’t you think?”
“Stop teasing me,” Yolanda answered with a modest smile. “The initial results aren’t even out yet. It’s far too soon to celebrate.”
“So what? You’re bound to win. Christina doesn’t stand a chance against you,” Katie said with confidence.
Brendon’s brows drew together slightly at that remark. He knew Christina had entered the competition as well. He wasn’t afraid she might surpass Yolanda, but rather that she would suffer a crushing defeat. He had studied Yolanda’s design, and it was certain to prevail. Besides, Yolanda was already the reigning champion of the national fashion design competition. Her brilliance in the field was undeniable.
“Brendon, what’s on your mind?” Yolanda watched him with concern, noticing the crease in his brow as though something weighed on him.
“It’s nothing,” Brendon replied with a smile, masking his unease. “Just thinking about a project.”
“Brendon,” Yolanda pressed, her gaze steady as she asked deliberately, “who do you think will win—me or Christina?”
“Of course, you,” Brendon said at once, smiling as he spoke.
Yolanda’s heart eased instantly, her lips curving with satisfaction. “Thank you for believing in me. But if Christina loses, she might feel devastated.”
“She’ll have to accept it. She can only fault herself for lacking the talent,” Brendon answered offhandedly.
Yolanda’s smile deepened. Leaning in, she kissed him on the cheek. “When that happens, let’s send her a small gift of encouragement. Tell her not to lose heart.”

“Yolanda! I just saw that your piece made it!” Katie couldn’t hide her excitement as she blurted out the news.
