Chapter 1279:

“Alright,” she said quietly, settling down beside him.

Once in his arms, Christina felt safe. His warmth wrapped around her, steady and familiar.

Being near him always made her relax, and before long, the exhaustion began to take over. The familiar scent of him was oddly calming.

“You can sleep if you’re tired,” Dylan murmured. “I’ll ring the nurse if I need anything.”

Christina shook her head. “No, what if you fall asleep too and the IV bag empties? That could be bad.”

“I won’t fall asleep,” Dylan said with quiet confidence.

“Still, that’s not fair,” she said firmly. “You’re the one who’s sick, and I’m supposed to take care of you, not the other way around.”

Dylan gave a soft laugh, giving in to her stubbornness, and leaned in to kiss her forehead.

His fever made his skin burn with heat, but when his lips brushed her cool forehead, it sent a wave of relief through him. He couldn’t help himself anymore. All he wanted was to stay close to Christina, to feel her right there beside him.

Dylan turned slightly and brushed his cheek against hers, the motion tender and slow.

That simple touch eased something inside him. He felt calmer, lighter, like the weight he’d been carrying had lifted.

Just lying there with her made him feel content in a way words couldn’t describe.

In that moment, he wished silently that Christina would stay by his side for the rest of his life.

Three days had gone by.

Davina had taken her mother’s ashes and headed to Kitaso, where she’d chosen a quiet cemetery surrounded by trees and sunlight.

Ralphy, worried about her being alone, went with her. Meanwhile, Christina had already moved out of Magnus’s house and into Dylan’s villa in Jasgow.

Now, whenever she wrapped up work, she would go see Dylan. The two of them had fallen into an easy rhythm—spending quiet evenings together, doing little but being near each other.

Even when Dylan was buried in work, Christina would curl up on the couch with a book. They didn’t need constant conversation; just being in the same space felt enough.

That afternoon, Dylan sat on the sofa in the living room, while Christina rested her head on his lap.

“The Vaughn family is hosting a banquet in a few days,” he said, gently running a hand through her hair. “Do you want to go?”

Christina sighed. “Honestly? I’m not in the mood for socializing. After work, I just want to relax and sleep properly for once.”
