Chapter 1296:
“You feeling tired?” Dylan asked, his tone warm, eyes soft. He reached out, brushed a loose strand behind her ear, and in that moment, the whole world shrank until it was just her.
She thought he was about to suggest a break, so she nodded. “A bit. Let’s—”
But before she could finish, Dylan scooped her up like it was nothing, cradling her in his arms like they were already halfway to the altar.
The moment her feet lifted off the ground, panic instantly flooded through Christina. Without thinking, she clung to Dylan’s neck, desperate for balance and a sense of safety.
“Hey, put me down,” she said between laughs. “We’re still pretty far from the villa. Don’t tell me you actually plan to carry me all the way.”
“I plan to,” Dylan murmured, lowering his head to press a soft kiss against her forehead.
“You’re not tired yet? Come on, be serious. Put me down. We can just walk back together.” Christina shifted in his arms, lightly struggling to free herself.
“Don’t move,” Dylan said with a warm, affectionate smile. “I like holding you like this. Once I head back to Dorfield, I won’t get to do this anymore. So let me hold you while I still can.”
His dark eyes softened, filled with a tenderness that seemed endless. In that moment, she was all he saw.
“Okay, fair point,” Christina admitted softly. “But… are you sure you’re not tired?”
The villa was still a long way off, and she couldn’t help but worry he’d wear himself out carrying her the entire distance.
“Not at all,” Dylan replied, his tone gentle but steady as he met her gaze.
Being near her seemed to refill his strength; her presence alone gave him the drive to keep going.
“If you start getting tired, just say so, okay? You can put me down, and we’ll walk together,” she murmured, her voice tender.
“Okay,” Dylan answered with a loving smile.

Their voices intertwined in soft conversation, drifting easily from one topic to another. Even the silliest things made them laugh. They simply enjoyed the moment, lost in each other’s company.
The walk was sprinkled with laughter. Soft, warm, and full of quiet joy.
Later that night—
A sharp gust of cold wind brushed over Besty, stirring her awake.
The icy surface beneath her made her shiver violently, snapping her fully awake. She sat up fast, her eyes darting around in panic.
The instant she spotted Terrence sitting calmly on the black leather sofa, a shock ran through her. Her heart pounded so hard she could barely breathe.
