# Chapter 18: The Blood on the White Nightgown

Hello everyone, it’s me again! How are you all doing? I hope you're ready, because today I’m going to walk with you through one of the most tense, nerve-wracking chapters yet in *The Housemaid*. Chapter 18 pulls us into the dead of night, where shouts echo through the walls, blood stains a pristine white gown, and Millie finds herself face-to-face with a woman who might just be capable of anything. So settle in, hold your breath, and let’s unravel this haunting scene together.

It begins in the suffocating silence of the attic. Millie is yanked from sleep by the sound of shouting—loud, angry, desperate voices rising from somewhere deep in the house below. The attic is well insulated, which muffles the words, but not the fury. A man. A woman. Andrew and Nina.

Then, a crash.

That’s all it takes. Instinct takes over, and Millie rolls out of bed. It’s probably none of her business—she knows that. But something is happening down there. She has to at least make sure everyone is okay.

She grabs the doorknob, and for a moment, the familiar stickiness of the old attic door sends a jolt of panic through her chest. But the knob shifts, and she’s out.

Down the creaky steps, down to the second floor, the shouting grows louder. It’s coming from the master bedroom. Nina’s voice. Hysterical, fractured, and aimed directly at Andrew.

Millie overhears pieces of a raw, broken conversation. Nina crying out that she did everything she could. Andrew trying to calm her. Nina’s words twist into something darker: guilt, shame, and the painful ache of a woman who believes she’s not enough.

“If you were with a younger woman, you could have a baby like you want! It’s my fault!”

The words hang like smoke in the air. Andrew tries to soothe her, but she won’t have it. Her voice turns from sadness to fury, sharp and dangerous. More crashes follow. Something breaks. Then another. Millie stands frozen in the hallway, caught between the instinct to knock and the desperate urge to run back to her attic and hide.

Then, the door is yanked open.

And there stands Nina.

She’s wearing that same lily-white nightgown—the one from the night she caught Millie and Andrew together in the living room. Except now, there’s something horribly different. A streak of crimson runs from her hip down the length of the skirt. Blood. And it’s on her hands too.

Millie’s heart stops.

Nina’s pale eyes bore into her. “Millie. What are you doing here?”

“I… I heard a crash. I was worried. I wanted to make sure everything is okay.”

But Nina catches Millie’s gaze lingering on the bloodstain. And almost playfully, she says she just cut her hand. Nothing to worry about. She doesn’t need Millie’s help.

But something isn’t right. A cut hand doesn’t leave that much blood on a nightgown. Millie’s mind races with terrible possibilities. What if Nina killed him? What if Andrew is dead on the bedroom floor right now? Or worse—bleeding to death while she still has a chance to save him? Millie can’t walk away, not even if she’s done bad things herself. She will not let Nina get away with murder.

“Where’s Andrew?” she asks.

Pink circles bloom on Nina’s cheeks. “Excuse me?”

“I heard a crash. Is he okay?”

Nina stares at her, fury rising. “How dare you! What are you accusing me of?”

But Millie can’t move. She knows Andrew is big, strong—if Nina managed to hurt him, what chance would Millie have? And still, she stands her ground.

“Go back to your room,” Nina orders.

Millie swallows. “No.”

“Go back to your room, or else you’re fired.”

There’s no bluff in Nina’s eyes. She means it. But Millie still can’t bring herself to step away. She opens her mouth to protest—

And then she hears it.

The sound of a faucet running from inside the master bedroom.

Andrew is in the bathroom.

He’s alive. He’s okay.

Millie’s shoulders sag with relief. Thank God.

“Happy?” Nina’s voice is ice, her pale blue eyes holding a strange flicker of amusement. She likes scaring her. She likes the power. “My husband is alive and well.”

Millie bows her head. “I’m sorry I bothered you.”

She turns and trudges down the hallway, feeling Nina’s stare burning into her back. She’s almost at the stairwell when Nina’s voice drifts out once more.

“Millie?”

She turns. Nina’s white dress glows in the moonlight, like an angel. Except for the blood. And now Millie sees it—a tiny pool of crimson forming on the floor beneath Nina’s injured hand.

“Yes?”

“Stay up in the attic at night.” Nina blinks slowly. “Do you understand?”

Millie doesn’t need to hear it twice. She never wants to come out of the attic again.

**Reader’s Impressions & Star Rating:**

This chapter sent chills down my spine. Nina is terrifying in the most unsettling way—not just because of the blood, but because of the quiet amusement behind her eyes. Millie’s fear feels so real, and the tension in that hallway is almost too much to bear. You can feel her trapped between curiosity, fear, and the need to do the right thing. The imagery of the bloodstained white gown in the moonlight is haunting and unforgettable.

**Next Chapter Prediction:**

Millie is going to stay quiet as ordered, but something in that house is seriously wrong. I predict that Nina’s behavior will keep escalating, and Millie will start digging deeper into the Winchesters’ secrets—maybe uncovering something even darker behind that locked door. Andrew may seem safe for now, but the cracks in this marriage are only going to widen... and Millie might be the one caught in the middle when everything collapses.
