# Chapter 22: The Crush She Can't Deny & The Ticket Debacle

Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 22 of "The Housemaid" — and trust me, this one is packed with heart-fluttering tension, hidden feelings, and a shocking twist that will leave you gasping. So grab a cup of tea, sit back, and let's dive right into Millie's world, where nothing is ever as simple as it seems.

The week after that tense doctor's visit was, for Millie, a quiet battle of the heart. She spent every single day avoiding Andrew Winchester like he was a fire she wasn't allowed to touch. And why? Because Millie could no longer pretend. She had feelings for him. Not just little fleeting thoughts — no, she had a full-blown, serious, all-consuming crush on this married man. She thought about him constantly. She dreamed of him. She dreamed of his lips on hers, his arms around her, the kind of dreams that made her wake up flustered and ashamed.

And here's the truly dangerous part: she suspected he might feel the same way. Even though he claimed to love Nina, even though he was her boss, even though everything about this situation screamed "run away, Millie, run away" — there was something there. A spark. A tension. An unspoken pull between them that she couldn't ignore.

But Millie had a survival instinct, and it was loud and clear: you do not keep a job by sleeping with your married boss. So she did what any sensible woman in her position would do — she shoved every feeling down into the deepest, darkest corner of her heart and pretended he didn't exist. Fortunately for her, Andrew was at work most of the day, so avoiding him was easy enough. She kept her head down, did her chores, and counted the days until she could finally escape this chaotic household.

Now, tonight, Millie was preparing dinner with her usual efficiency. She laid out plates of salmon with wild rice — a meal fit for royalty — and of course, chicken nuggets for little Cecelia. Her plan was simple: put the food out, disappear into the kitchen, and race out of the house before Andrew even stepped foot in the room. Classic Millie strategy.

But then Nina wandered in.

The blonde woman bobbed her head in approval at the spread, her eyes lighting up with satisfaction. "That smells wonderful, Millie," she remarked sweetly.

Millie hovered near the kitchen doorway, ready to make her escape. "Thanks. Will that be all?"

"Just one thing." Nina patted her perfectly styled blond hair, a gesture that seemed casual but always held a hint of superiority. "Were you able to book those tickets for *Showdown*?"

A wave of pride washed over Millie. Oh, she had done far more than book tickets — she had snatched up the last two orchestra seats for the hottest show in town, this Sunday night. Row six, practically close enough to touch the actors. It had cost a small fortune, but the Winchesters could afford it, right? Millie beamed. "You are in the sixth row from the stage. You could practically touch the actors."

"Wonderful!" Nina clapped her hands together, genuinely excited for once. "And you booked the hotel room?"

"At The Plaza," Millie confirmed proudly.

Ah, The Plaza. Since the show was a bit of a drive into the city, Nina and Andrew would be staying overnight at that iconic luxury hotel. Cecelia was supposed to stay at a friend's house, which meant Millie would have the entire enormous house to herself for a night. She could walk around naked if she wanted. (She wasn't planning to, of course, but it was nice to know she could.)

"It will be so lovely," Nina sighed dreamily. "Andy and I *really* need this."

Millie bit her tongue. She had opinions about the state of Nina and Andrew's relationship — so many opinions — but she wisely kept them to herself. And at that exact moment, the front door slammed, signaling that Andrew was home. Perfect timing, as always.

Millie couldn't help but notice how distant the couple had become since that doctor's visit and their subsequent blowout fight. There was a strange, awkward politeness hanging between them, like two strangers forced to share a table at a wedding. Not that Millie was paying attention, of course. But it was impossible not to notice how Nina seemed... off. Like right now, for instance. The woman's white blouse was buttoned wrong — clearly missed a button, leaving the whole thing crooked and lopsided. Millie itched to say something, to save Nina from the embarrassment, but the last time she had offered unsolicited advice, she got screamed at. So her mouth stayed firmly shut.

"I hope you have a wonderful time," Millie said instead, forcing politeness.

"We will!" Nina beamed — a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "I can hardly wait all week!"

Millie frowned, her brow furrowing in confusion. "All week? The show is in three days."

And then Andrew walked in. He strode into the dining room, pulling off his tie, looking devastatingly handsome in his tailored suit. He stopped short when he saw Millie — but he caught himself, stifling any visible reaction. And Millie did the same, swallowing hard at the sight of him. The air between them crackled with unspoken electricity.

"Three days?" Nina repeated, her tone shifting. "Millie, I asked you to book the tickets for a week from Sunday! I distinctly remember."

Millie shook her head, genuinely baffled. "Yes... but you told me that over a week ago. So I booked them for *this* Sunday."

Nina's cheeks flushed pink with annoyance. "So you admit I told you to book it for a week from Sunday, and you still booked for *this* Sunday?"

"No, what I'm saying is —"

"I can't believe you could be so careless." Nina folded her arms across her chest like a prosecutor delivering a verdict. "I can't make the show this Sunday. I have to drive Cecelia to her summer camp in Massachusetts on Sunday, and I'm spending the night out there."

Millie's heart plummeted into her stomach. What? She could have sworn Nina told her to book it for the coming Sunday. She was so sure — so absolutely, positively certain — that Nina had said Cecelia would be staying at a friend's house. There was no way she got this messed up. No way. "Maybe somebody else could take her?" Millie offered, clutching at straws. "I mean, the tickets are nonrefundable."

Nina looked positively affronted, as if Millie had just suggested something monstrous. "I'm not letting somebody else take my daughter to summer camp when I'm not going to see her for two weeks!"

*Why not?* Millie thought bitterly. *That's no worse than trying to kill her.* But of course, she couldn't say that. She couldn't say anything.

"I can't believe how badly you screwed this up, Millie." Nina shook her head with theatrical disappointment. "The cost of these tickets and the hotel room is coming right out of your paycheck."

Millie's mouth fell open. The cost of those tickets and a room at The Plaza? That was more than her entire paycheck. Hell, it was more than *three* paychecks. She was trying to save every penny so she could finally escape this madness and get the hell out of here. The thought of working for weeks — months! — without seeing a single dollar of pay made tears sting at the corners of her eyes.

But then, a voice cut through the tension like a blade of mercy.

"Nina," Andrew broke in, his tone calm and measured. "Don't get upset about this. Look, I'm sure there's a way to refund the tickets. I'll call the credit card company and I'll take care of it."

For a moment, Nina's eyes shot daggers at Millie, seething with barely-contained rage. "Fine. But if we can't get the money back, I expect you to pay for it. Do you understand?"

Millie nodded wordlessly, her throat too tight to speak. And then, before Nina could see the tears threatening to spill, she dashed off into the kitchen, letting the door swing shut behind her as she struggled to hold herself together.

Her escape was complete. But the damage had already been done — and Millie was left alone with the crushing weight of her feelings, her fears, and the sinking realization that in this house, every mistake had a price.

Well, my dear listeners, what a rollercoaster of a chapter! Let me take a moment to share my thoughts as a reader.

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

This chapter was everything I love about this story — the slow-burn tension, the emotional stakes, and that constant, creeping sense of dread that something is about to go terribly wrong. Watching Millie try so desperately to suppress her feelings for Andrew was both heartwarming and painful. You can feel her inner turmoil, that impossible conflict between her heart and her survival instincts. And Nina? Oh, Nina is such a fascinating puzzle. Is she genuinely forgetful? Or is there something more calculating going on here? The ticket mix-up felt almost too convenient — and let's not forget that Andrew jumped in to defend Millie almost immediately. The romantic tension between them is absolutely electric, but paired with the dark undercurrent of this family's secrets, it makes for an absolutely gripping read. I couldn't put it down!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.7 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction

Now, what's coming next? With Millie on the verge of tears in the kitchen, and those nonrefundable tickets hanging over her head like a guillotine, I predict Andrew will come find her to comfort her — and that private moment between them will blow the lid off their suppressed feelings. But don't be fooled. Nina is watching. And in this house, nothing happens without consequences. I suspect Millie might discover something even darker about Nina's plans for that weekend, or perhaps Andrew will let something slip about his true feelings. Either way, the storm is coming — and it's going to be a big one.
