The Plaza Hotel. One room. Two people. No turning back.

Millie lies in that decadent queen-size bed, the soft morning light spilling through the giant picture window that overlooks the glittering city skyline. She watches the sunrise paint the sky in hues of gold and pink, but her mind is anywhere but on the view. Beside her, Andrew sleeps—peacefully, boyishly, his lips softly puffing air with every breath. And she lets herself remember.

Last night was everything. After that kiss in the taxi, there was no stopping them. They were practically tearing each other's clothes off, barely able to keep their hands off each other while Andrew checked them into the hotel. The elevator ride? Pure teenage madness. And once that door closed behind them, all pretense of "being good" for the sake of his marriage went straight out the window.

Millie doesn't know when Andrew last had sex, but for her—it had been so painfully long that she half-joked to herself about needing to clear away cobwebs. But there was no hesitation. She had even packed condoms in her purse, remnants of a plan with Enzo that never came to be. And it was good. No—more than good. It was freaking amazing. Exactly what she needed.

But now the sun has risen, and reality has crept back in like an unwelcome guest.

She watches Andrew's handsome profile as he sleeps, and for just a moment, she allows herself the dangerous luxury of fantasy. What if he wakes up and decides he's had enough of Nina and all her bullshit? What if he realizes he loves Millie and wants her to move into that gorgeous gated mansion? What if she could give him the baby he so desperately wants—the baby Nina will never be able to give him? She remembers those obnoxious women at the PTA meeting, whispering about the airtight prenup. Andrew could leave Nina without losing much. He'd be generous, of course. He's that kind of man.

But Millie knows better. It's stupid. It will never happen. If he knew the truth about her, he'd run a mile. Still, a girl can daydream.

The spell breaks when Andrew groans, rubbing his palms against his eyes and rolling his head to the side. His eyes crack open. To Millie's relief—and slight surprise—he doesn't look horrified to see her there at all.

"Hey," he says, his voice hoarse from sleep and wine.

"Hey."

He rubs his eyes again, clearly struggling. "How are you doing? Are you okay?"

Aside from the sinking feeling in her chest? She's great. "I'm okay. Are you okay?"

He tries to sit up and fails, his head dropping back onto the pillow with a thud. "I think I'm hungover. Christ, how much did we drink?"

Two bottles of wine. He drank more than she did, but she's a lightweight, so it hit her just as hard.

His brow scrunches in quiet concern. "Are... are *we* okay?"

"We're fine." She forces a smile. "Completely fine. I promise."

He tries again to sit up—wincing at the pounding in his head—but this time he makes it. And then comes the apology she was dreading: "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have..."

She flinches. Don't worry about it. Her voice comes out clipped, and she clears her throat. "I'll go take a shower. We should probably head back home."

"Yeah..." He heaves a heavy sigh. Then, the question she knew was coming. "You won't say anything to Nina, right? I mean, we were both really drunk and..."

Of course. That's all he cares about. "I won't."

"Thanks. Thanks so much."

Millie is naked under the blankets, but she doesn't want him to see her like that—vulnerable and exposed. She grabs a sheet and wraps it around her trembling body, stumbling toward the bathroom. She can feel his eyes on her, but she refuses to turn around. The humiliation burns in her chest.

Then his voice stops her: "Millie?"

She still can't look at him. "What?"

"I'm not sorry," he says. "I had a great time with you last night, and I'm not sorry for any part of it. And I hope you're not either."

She dares a glance. He's still in bed, the covers pooled at his waist, revealing his bare, muscular chest. Her breath catches. "No, I'm not sorry at all."

"But..." He sighs deeply, the weight of the world pressing down on him. "It can't happen again. You know that, right?"

She nods. Yes, she understands.

A troubled look crosses his face as he runs a hand through his dark hair. "I wish things could be different."

"I know."

"I wish I'd met you back when..."

He doesn't have to finish. She knows exactly what he's thinking. If only they had met before he was married. If only he had walked into that bar where she was waiting tables, their eyes meeting across the room, and when he asked for her number, she would have handed it over without hesitation. But that's not the reality they live in. He's married. He's a father. Nothing more can ever happen between them.

"I know," she says again.

He keeps his eyes on her, and for one breathless moment, she wonders if he's going to ask to join her in the shower. After all, they've already desecrated this hotel room. Why not one more time? But he behaves himself. He turns away, pulls up the covers, and lets her go take her cold shower.

The cold water washes over her skin, but it does nothing to cool the ache in her heart. She knows that what happened last night was a one-time thing—born of alcohol, loneliness, and pent-up desperation. But knowing something and feeling it are two very different things. And as she stands there, letting the chill chase away the warmth of his touch, she can't help but wonder: What happens now? How does she go back to that house, to that marriage, to Nina—as if nothing ever happened?

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

Oh my, what a beautifully painful chapter! The way this scene unfolds is so achingly human—the tenderness between Millie and Andrew in the morning light, mixed with the crushing weight of reality and guilt. You can *feel* Millie's vulnerability as she wraps that sheet around herself, the sting of his apology, and the bittersweet fantasy she allows herself for just a moment. Andrew's line, "I'm not sorry," is both romantic and devastating, because we know—and they know—that this can never happen again. This chapter perfectly captures that poignant moment between two people who connected at the wrong time, in the wrong circumstances. The writing is raw, honest, and deeply emotional.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction

Now that Millie has crossed this unimaginable line with her married boss, the tension is about to explode. I predict she'll return to the Winchester house and face a wall of awkwardness with Andrew—but more dangerously, I suspect Nina is about to become even more suspicious. Millie will have to wear her best poker face while navigating a household that's becoming increasingly unhinged. And with the weight of this secret pressing down on her, something is bound to crack. Will she use this to her advantage, or will it become the very thing that unravels her carefully constructed plan?
