# Chapter 32: The Kiss That Could Destroy Everything

Hello everyone, it’s me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 32 of “The Housemaid.” Let me tell you, this chapter is a storm of sleepless nights, stolen kisses, and a shadow that makes your blood run cold. Grab a drink, settle in, and let’s step back into the Winchester house — where every dark hallway hides a secret, and every moment of happiness comes with a price.

Three days. Three long days since Millie had nearly been caught at the grocery store, and still, she couldn't sleep. She lay in that stiflingly hot room, kicking off the blankets, staring at the ceiling, her mind spinning with fear and confusion. Nina had been… pleasant enough lately. Maybe she wasn't trying to send Millie to jail. Maybe she was satisfied that Millie had learned her lesson about who was boss in this house.

But that wasn't why Millie was tossing and turning.

No, the real reason she couldn't sleep was Andrew. That night they had spent together. The way her heart raced when she was near him. The way he looked at her, like she was someone worth seeing. She had never felt this way before in her life — this ache, this pull, this terrifying hope. And until Nina dropped that bombshell about Millie's past, Andrew had felt it too. She could tell. She *knew* it.

But now? Now he thought she was nothing but a common criminal. And that thought was more painful than any prison cell.

Unable to lie still any longer, Millie padded downstairs to the kitchen, her bare feet whispering against the cool floors. The mini-fridge in her room was basically useless; she barely had any food in it, just those three little water bottles Nina had left, still untouched. She was just passing through the dark house when she noticed the light on the back porch.

Somebody was out there.

Her heart skipped. It was Andrew. Sitting alone in one of the patio chairs, nursing a bottle of beer in the dark, staring out into the vast backyard like a man carrying the weight of the world.

Millie quietly slid open the back door. Andrew blinked up at her in surprise, but didn't say a word. He just took another long swig from his bottle.

“Hey,” she said softly.

“Hey.”

She squeezed her hands together, her heart hammering. “Can I sit here?”

“Sure. Knock yourself out.”

She stepped out onto the cold wooden planks and lowered herself into the seat beside him, wishing — desperately wishing — she had a beer of her own. He wouldn't even look at her. He just kept drinking, staring off into the darkness, his jaw tight.

“I want to explain,” she began, clearing her throat. “I mean, why I didn't tell you about…”

“You don't have to explain.” He glanced at her, then back down at his beer. “It's pretty obvious why you didn't tell me.”

“I wanted to.” It wasn't true. She hadn't wanted to tell him. She had wanted him to never know, even though that was completely unrealistic. “Anyway, I'm sorry.”

He swished the beer around in his bottle. “So what were you in prison for?”

The question hit her like a punch to the gut. She opened her mouth, fumbling for something to say — but thank goodness, he spared her.

“Forget it. I don't want to know. It's none of my business.”

She chewed on her lip, desperate and raw. “Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I wanted to try to put the past behind me. I didn't mean any harm.”

“Yeah…”

“And…” She stared down at her hands in her lap, her voice barely a whisper. “I was embarrassed. I didn't want you to think less of me. Your opinion means a lot to me.”

He rolled his head to look at her, those beautiful eyes softening under the dim porch light. “Millie…”

“I also want you to know…” She took a deep breath, her whole body trembling. “I had a really great time the other night. It was one of the best nights I've ever had. Because of you. So whatever else happens, thank you for that. I… I just had to tell you that.”

There was a crease between his eyebrows, something tender and pained. “I had a great time, too. I haven't felt that happy in…” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “A while. I hadn't even realized it.”

For a moment, they just stared at each other. The air between them crackled with electricity. Millie could see it in his eyes — he felt it too. He glanced at the back door, as if checking for intruders, and then, before she knew what was happening, his lips were on hers.

He kissed her like time had stopped. Like nothing else mattered. It felt like eternity, though it was probably only sixty seconds. When he pulled away, regret flooded his eyes.

“I can't…”

“I know…”

It wasn't meant to be between them. So many reasons, so many obstacles. But if he wanted to go for it, Millie would do it. Even if it meant making an enemy out of Nina Winchester. She would risk everything. For him.

But instead, she got up and left him behind on the porch with his beer.

The wood of the stairs was cold against her bare feet as she climbed back up to the second floor. Her head was still spinning from that kiss, her lips tingling. That couldn't be the last time. It *couldn't*. She had seen the way he looked at her. He had real feelings for her. Even though he knew her past, he still liked her. The only problem was —

Wait. What was that?

Millie froze at the top of the stairs. There was a shadow in the hallway. She squinted at it, trying to make out the shape in the darkness.

And then it moved.

She let out a screech and nearly toppled backward down the stairs, grabbing the banister at the last desperate second. The shadow shifted closer, and now she could see it clearly.

It was Nina.

“Nina,” she gasped.

Why was she standing there in the hallway? Had she been downstairs? Had she seen the kiss?

“Hello, Millie.” It was dark in the hallway, but the whites of Nina's eyes almost seemed to glow.

“What… what are you doing here?”

Nina scowled, the moonlight casting disturbing shadows across her face. “It's *my* home. I don't have to account for my whereabouts.”

Of course, Millie thought bitterly, it wasn't really her home. Andrew owned the house. If they weren't married, Nina couldn't live there. If he decided to choose Millie over her…

These thoughts were insane. Obviously, that wasn't going to happen.

“I'm sorry.”

Nina folded her arms across her chest. “What are *you* doing here?”

“I… I came down to get a glass of water.”

“Don't you have water in your room?”

“I drank it all,” Millie lied. And she knew Nina knew it was a lie — she snooped in Millie's room all the time.

There was a long, horrible silence. Then Nina spoke, her voice smooth as poison. “Andy wasn't in bed. Did you see him downstairs anywhere?”

“I, uh… I think he was out on the back porch.”

“I see.”

“But I'm not sure. I didn't talk to him or anything.”

Nina gave her a look that said *I don't believe one word you're saying* — which was fair enough, since it was all lies.

“I'll go check on him.”

“And I'll head up to my room.”

Nina nodded, then pushed past her, jostling Millie's shoulder as she passed. Millie's heart pounded in her chest. She couldn't shake the terrible feeling that she had made a grave mistake crossing Nina Winchester.

Yet somehow, she couldn't seem to stop herself.

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

Oh, this chapter was absolutely *tense*! My heart was racing the entire time. The kiss between Millie and Andrew was so beautifully written — you could feel the longing and the heartbreak in every word. But then Nina appeared like a ghost in the hallway, and the dread just washed over me. You know that feeling when you're watching a horror movie and you're screaming at the character not to make the wrong move? That's exactly how I felt reading this. Millie is playing a dangerous game, and Nina is not the kind of woman you cross lightly. I'm equal parts excited and terrified to see what happens next.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction

I predict that Nina is going to escalate things in a terrifying way. She clearly suspects something — maybe she even saw the kiss. Andrew might finally start to question his marriage and stand up for Millie, but that will only make Nina more desperate and vindictive. I think we're heading toward a massive confrontation, and possibly Nina revealing even darker secrets about Millie's past or twisting Andrew's loyalty so far that he turns against her completely. Honestly, I'm bracing myself for a heartbreak or a betrayal — or maybe both.
