After everything that happened, Andrew told me I shouldn’t be doing any work around the house. But old habits die hard, and on Monday, I just couldn’t sit still. We were low on supplies, and even after flipping through books from the bookcase and watching a little TV, I was itchy with restlessness. Unlike Nina, I actually like keeping busy. So I decided to go grocery shopping — not at the store where that security guard tried to catch me, of course. I had been carefully avoiding that place. Instead, I went to a different grocery store across town. Honestly, they’re all the same anyway.

And you know what? The best part was pushing my cart through those aisles without having to follow Nina’s ridiculous, pretentious grocery list. I could buy whatever I wanted. If I wanted brioche bread, I got brioche. If I wanted sourdough, I got sourdough. No need to send her a hundred pictures of every bread variety like a trained little servant. It felt amazing. Liberating.

Then my phone rang.

I was in the dairy aisle, staring at a carton of milk, when the sound buzzed from inside my purse. That unsettled feeling crept up my spine again. Who could be calling me? Maybe it was Andrew.

I reached into my purse, heart thumping. But when I looked at the screen, it was that same blocked number — the one that had called me earlier that morning. My stomach tightened.

And then a voice cut through the air.

“Millie, is it?”

I nearly jumped out of my skin. I looked up, and standing there with a plastic smile was one of those women from Nina’s PTA meeting. I couldn’t remember her name at first, but I definitely remembered her face — plump, painted lips, and eyes that glinted with too much curiosity.

“Yes?” I managed.

“I’m Patrice,” she said. “You’re Nina’s girl, right?”

I bristled. *Nina’s girl.* Wow. Wait until she finds out that Andrew dumped Nina, and that Nina’s going to be screwed over in the divorce because of that prenup. Wait until she finds out that I — Millie, the housemaid — am Andrew Winchester’s new girlfriend. Soon, maybe *she’ll* be the one who has to suck up to me.

“I work for the Winchesters,” I said stiffly. But not for long.

“Oh, good.” Her smile widened. “I’ve been trying to get in touch with Nina all morning. She and I were supposed to meet for brunch — we always have brunch Monday and Thursday at Kristen’s Diner — but she never showed up. Is everything okay?”

“Yes,” I lied. “Everything is fine.”

Patrice pursed her lips, clearly enjoying the drama. “I guess she must’ve just forgotten then. You know Nina can be a bit flaky, I’m sure.”

Oh, she’s way more than flaky. But I kept my mouth shut.

Then her eyes dropped to the phone in my hand. “Is that the phone Nina gave you to use?”

“Uh, yeah. It is.”

She threw her head back and laughed — a sharp, grating laugh that echoed through the dairy aisle. “I have to say, it’s nice of you to let her keep track of where you are at all times. I don’t know if I would be okay with that if I were you.”

I shrugged, trying to play it cool. “She mostly just texts me. It’s not that bad.”

But Patrice shook her head, that knowing glint in her eyes. “That’s not what I mean.” She nodded at my phone. “I’m talking about the tracking app she installed. Doesn’t it drive you crazy that she wants to know where you are all the time?”

The world went cold.

I felt like I’d been sucker-punched right in the gut. *Nina tracks me on my phone?* What the hell?

I was so stupid. Of course she would do something like that. It made perfect sense. She never had to go through my purse to find that playbill. She never had to call the house to know where I’d been the night of the show. She knew exactly where I was. Every. Single. Second.

“Oh!” Patrice clasped a hand over her mouth, theatrical as ever. “I’m so sorry. Did you not realize...?”

I wanted to slap her right across her Botoxed face. I couldn’t tell if she knew I didn’t know, or if she was just getting some twisted pleasure out of delivering this bombshell. A cold sweat broke out on the back of my neck.

“Excuse me,” I said.

I pushed past her and left my grocery cart sitting there in the aisle. I didn’t care. I raced out of the store, my heart hammering, and only started breathing properly once I hit the parking lot. I bent over, put my hands on my knees, and forced myself to breathe until my pulse slowed.

When I straightened up again, I saw a car making a quick, sharp exit from the parking lot.

A white Lexus.

It looked like Nina’s car.

My blood ran cold. And then, right on cue, my phone started ringing again.

I ripped it out of my purse, hands shaking. The same blocked number. Fine. If she wanted to talk, let her talk. If she wanted to scream at me, call me a homewrecker, threaten me — whatever. I was ready.

I jabbed the green button. “Hello? Nina?”

“Hello!” a cheerful voice chirped. “It’s come to our attention that your vehicle warranty may have recently expired!”

I pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at it in disbelief. A spam caller. It wasn’t Nina at all. It was just a stupid, automated scam.

I had completely overreacted.

But even as I stood there in that parking lot, heart racing and skin prickling, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was in danger.

Because whether or not it was her on the phone, that white Lexus had been there. And Nina had been tracking me all along.

🌟 **Reader’s Impressions & Star Rating:**

This chapter gave me chills. The tension builds masterfully — from the mundane comfort of grocery shopping to the sudden, invasive revelation that Nina’s been tracking Millie the entire time. Patrice may be a gossip and a troublemaker, but she just handed Millie vital information. And that glimpse of the white Lexus? Absolutely terrifying. You can feel Millie’s world closing in around her, and the paranoia is so real you almost want to look over your shoulder while reading. The spam call twist was a cruel, brilliant tease — it made Millie (and us) second-guess everything. Just brilliant suspense.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

🔮 **Next Chapter Prediction:**

Now that Millie knows Nina’s phone is equipped with a tracker, she’s going to have to destroy it — or leave it behind — if she wants any chance at freedom. But that white Lexus she saw? I think Nina is watching much more closely than anyone realizes. In the next chapter, Millie might try to confront Andrew or dig deeper into Nina’s surveillance, but one wrong move could send Nina into a full, unhinged revenge mode. Buckle up — this storm is just beginning.
