Hello everyone, it’s me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 37 of "The Housemaid". And oh, my friends — this is the kind of chapter that makes your heart race and your palms sweat. So settle in, because things are about to take a very dark turn.

After everything that happened upstairs, after the warmth of Andrew’s arms and the kind of reckless, secret passion that should never have happened in that house, Millie finally lets exhaustion take her. Her body sinks into the thin, miserable cot in her tiny room — the same cot that has been torturing her back ever since she arrived at the Winchester house. She thinks about the luxurious mattress in the guestroom, the one that feels like sleeping on a cloud, but somehow, tonight, she doesn’t care. She’s too tired to care. Andrew was there. And for a while, she wasn’t alone.

She never imagined she would have sex in that room. Not with the way Nina had set all those strict rules, especially about guests. But look — rules have a way of being broken, especially in this house. And clearly, Nina’s rules didn’t protect her either.

But at three in the morning, reality comes calling — or rather, her bladder does.

It’s that heavy, uncomfortable pressure that drags Millie out of her deep sleep. She groans, still half-lost in the haze of exhaustion. She should have gone to the bathroom before bed, but Andrew had worn her out completely, and she’d barely had the strength to stay awake long enough to close her eyes, much less walk to the toilet.

Then, as her senses sharpen in the darkness, she notices something else.

Emptiness.

The cot beside her is cold. Andrew is gone.

She lies there for a moment, trying not to feel the sting of abandonment. Of course. He probably slipped out after she fell asleep and went back to his own comfortable bed. She can’t blame him. This cot is barely fit for one person, let alone two. The room is too small, too suffocating, and her back aches just thinking about the mattress. Andrew is more than ten years older than her, and Millie herself can barely survive a night on this thing, so if he snuck out, it makes complete sense.

She tells herself she doesn’t mind.

She’s just glad this is the last night she’ll ever have to sleep in this cramped, miserable little room.

Slowly, she swings her legs off the cot, pressing her bare feet against the cold floor. The floorboards groan beneath her weight, like they’re complaining about the disturbance. She pads over to the door, still drowsy, ready to walk to the bathroom and maybe, if she’s feeling bold, find Andrew downstairs in the guestroom.

She reaches for the doorknob and turns it.

It sticks. Of course.

She tries again, firmer this time.

But it still doesn’t turn.

And suddenly, the sleep is gone. As if a bucket of ice water has been dumped over her head, Millie feels panic pressing against her ribs. She presses her body against the door, her shoulder pressing into the deep scratch marks carved into the wood, and grabs the knob with both hands. She pours all her strength into it, trying to force it clockwise.

It doesn’t budge. Not even a single millimeter.

And that’s when the truth crashes into her, cold and terrifying and completely undeniable.

The door isn’t stuck. It’s locked.

Someone has locked her in.

Millie's heart slams against her chest. Her mind races. Who did this? How? The bedroom door can’t lock from the outside — or can it? She’s suddenly not sure of anything anymore. The scratch marks on the door, the strange details she always tried to ignore, all of it now feels sinister. She is trapped in her tiny room in the middle of the night, with no one to hear her if she screams.

Andrew is gone. Nina is... somewhere.

And Millie is alone.

But is she really alone? That's the most terrifying thought of all.

Well, my dear readers, I have to stop here for a moment. This chapter left me completely breathless. The tension is so sharp you could cut it. Millie has always been cunning, but sleeping with the husband of a woman as dangerous as Nina? That was a risk she knew was dangerous. And now, locked in that tiny room, all her confidence is crumbling. I couldn’t help but feel my own heart pound as she realized the door wasn’t stuck, but locked. This is the kind of cliffhanger that makes you want to scream at the book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars.

For the next chapter, I have a strong feeling that Millie is going to realize she has been set up. Someone in that house — whether it’s Nina, or someone else lurking in the shadows — has been waiting for the right moment to trap her. And when she finally escapes, the truth about this twisted household is going to be far darker than she ever imagined. Will she find a way out before sunrise? Or has the maid finally met her match?
