# Chapter 11: The Tear in the CEO’s Shirt
Hello everyone, it’s me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 11 of *The Housemaid’s Secret*. If you thought the tension couldn’t get any thicker, think again — because this chapter peels back another layer of the Garrick household, and it’s not pretty. Let’s step right into the penthouse, where a single crash sends everything spinning.
---
All was quiet in the marble-floored penthouse. Millie had just returned from her grocery run, four heavy bags dangling from her fingers, when the silence shattered.
*CRASH.*
The sound of glass exploding somewhere upstairs. It wasn’t a wine glass slipping off a counter. It was something angry — a thing thrown, a thing broken on purpose.
Millie froze. Her hand found the banister, ready to rush up. But before she could take a single step, a door slammed above. Then heavy footsteps thundered down the staircase.
She stepped back just in time.
Douglas Garrick stopped short at the bottom of the stairs, his face flushed pink as if his loosened tie had been strangling him. He was in a dress shirt, crisp and expensive, but there was something wrong. A jagged, angry tear right above his breast pocket — as if a set of nails had raked across it.
“Millie.” His voice was cold. “What are you doing here?”
Her eyes darted to the groceries. “I… I bought groceries. I was going to put them away.”
“Then why aren’t you in the kitchen?”
Millie offered a sheepish smile. “I heard a crash. I was worried that…”
But her voice trailed off. Because she couldn’t stop staring at that torn shirt. Douglas Garrick was a CEO. He didn’t do heavy lifting. He didn’t wrestle with anything. How in the world did a shirt like that tear — unless it had been torn *just now*, in a struggle, in the guest bedroom?
“Everything’s fine,” Douglas said, cutting through her thoughts. “I’ll take care of the groceries. You can leave.”
*Leave.* The word was a dismissal, but Millie’s instincts screamed at her to stay. Every fiber of her being told her to run up those stairs, to knock on the guestroom door, to confirm that Wendy Garrick was okay. She had heard a crash. She had heard the *violence* in it. And now the man standing before her wore a shirt that looked like it had been clawed.
But then Douglas stepped directly between her and the stairwell. He folded his arms across his chest, thick eyebrows raised, daring her to try. Millie knew in that instant: she was not getting past this man. Even if she did, if she knocked on Wendy’s door, Wendy would smile through fake lips and insist everything was fine.
So she stayed rooted as Douglas abruptly held out a small pink gift bag. “I need you to return this for me. Wendy didn’t want it.”
Millie accepted the bag. Through the delicate paper, she caught a glimpse of silky fabric — something fancy, something intimate. Something a wife would either love or throw across the room. “Okay, sure. Is the receipt in here?”
“No. It was a gift.”
Millie’s brow furrowed. “I don’t think I can return it without a receipt. Where did it come from?”
Douglas ground his teeth. “I don’t know — my assistant picked it out. I’ll email you a copy of the receipt.”
“If your assistant picked it out, wouldn’t it be easier if she returns it?”
The moment the words left her mouth, his head cocked — slow, predatory. “Excuse me, but isn’t your job to run errands for me?”
Millie flinched, her head jerking back as if slapped. In all her weeks working here, Douglas had never spoken to her with such cold disrespect. He had always seemed like a decent man — stressed, distracted, but decent. Now she saw the mask slip. There was another side to him, hiding just beneath the CEO polish. And maybe, she thought with a chill, there was another side to everyone.
He stood there, staring her down, waiting for her to obey. Millie’s instincts still screamed to check on Wendy. But what could she do? Douglas was a wall between her and the truth. And so, with the pink gift bag dangling from her fingers, Millie turned away.
She left the penthouse, the weight of unanswered questions pressing down on her shoulders. Behind her, the door closed like a lid snapping shut on a secret.

## Reader’s Impressions & Star Rating
This chapter is a masterclass in quiet dread. The moment you see that torn shirt, your stomach drops — and Freida McFadden doesn’t let you breathe. Millie’s helplessness is suffocating; you feel her instinct to protect Wendy, to solve the mystery, and then you feel the cold realization that Douglas has all the power. The gift bag is such a subtle, eerie detail — a silky reminder that something is deeply wrong between the Garricks. I loved the shift in Douglas’s demeanor; it’s terrifying how quickly charm can fracture into cruelty. This chapter doesn’t give you answers, but it raises the stakes to a fever pitch.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.9 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction
Now that Millie is out on the streets with that dreadful gift bag, I predict she won’t just take it to the store. She’s going to investigate — maybe peek inside the bag more carefully, or even confront Wendy when Douglas isn’t around. And that prickly feeling on the back of her neck? It’s not going away. I have a sick feeling that either Douglas is watching her, or that tear in his shirt is about to lead to something far darker than a simple marital argument. Could Wendy be in real danger? And is Millie walking straight into the crossfire?
