Married at First Sight
Chapter 5009
Just like with Dr. Joans, she knew he didn’t truly love her, but she just couldn’t let go.
She had poured so much effort into Dr. Joans and his family; how could she expect nothing in return for all that she had given?
Now, she saw hope.
Although she had brought up the issue of sharing a bed with him to demand he take responsibility, the best outcome would be for him to willingly marry her— only then could she be happy.
Forced relationships are never sweet, Flower Morgan knew this, so after Dr. Joans didn’t explicitly agree to take responsibility, she stopped using the issue of sharing a bed with him.
Dr. Joans’s parents preferred her; that was her hope. Dr. Joans was a filial son; he would listen to his parents’ advice.
Joans’s mother grasped Flower Morgan’s hand and said softly, “Yuehua, in Auntie’s eyes, you’re better than Dr. Lord.”
The old lady beside her, hearing Joans’s mother’s words, recognized the woman as the family member of her grandson’s rival. She turned to look at Joans’s mother and smiled, asking, “Did you also get an appointment with Dr. Lord?”
Joans’s mother nodded, noticing the old lady’s kind face and dignified air, and realized she was no ordinary person.
She asked, “Are you alone? Didn’t your children or grandchildren accompany you to the doctor?”
Could this dignified old lady’s life be less comfortable than hers?
“My grandson accompanied me. I’m not here for a doctor’s appointment; I just came for a checkup yesterday. I’ll get some of the results today, and I wanted to ask Dr. Lord to take a look. My grandson went to get the results for me.”
Joans’s mother smiled. “Oh, I see. I also came for a checkup. Dr. Lord and my son are alumni; they’re senior and junior.”
She boasted about her son’s acquaintance with Marry Lord.
The old lady said “Oh,” and then asked, “Does your son also work at this hospital?”
“He doesn’t work at the hospital; he runs his own clinic.”
The old lady praised him, “That’s great! Running your own clinic and making a name for yourself earns more than working at the hospital. Is that your son?”
She looked at Dr. Joans.
Joans’s mother nodded, “That’s my son.”
The old lady then looked at Flower Morgan, sizing her up, and asked Joans’s mother, “Is this your daughter-in-law? She and your son look a bit like a married couple.”
“Yuehua? She’s not my daughter-in-law yet, maybe not in the future. Really? They do look like a married couple? I haven’t looked closely, but I really like Yuehua.”
Joans’s mother held Flower Morgan’s hand, “Yuehua is very good to me. Every time I come for a checkup, Yuehua accompanies me to the hospital.”
Flower Morgan smiled, “Auntie, it’s what I should do.”
She was also very gentle with the old lady because the old lady said she and Dr. Joans looked like a married couple.
“You just said your son’s girlfriend is better than Dr. Lord?” the old lady asked,
looking gossipy.
Joans’s mother looked a little embarrassed, and quickly said, “In my eyes, Yuehua is excellent. Dr. Lord, old lady, to be honest, my son likes his junior, Dr. Lord.”
Joans’s mother whispered the last few words in the old lady’s ear, not wanting anyone else to hear.
She whispered, “Dr. Lord comes from a good family, but I don’t think she’s good at managing a household. She’s not as good at
managing a household as Yuehua. My husband and I prefer Yuehua, but my son is still hung up on Dr. Lord.” The old lady also whispered, “Dr. Lord is very busy with work, so she probably doesn’t have time to take care of her family.”
“I think so too. My son is a doctor himself, and he’s busy too. If he marries someone equally busy, what will happen to their little family? I’m not trying to belittle Dr. Lord, but unless she marries into a wealthy family and becomes a pampered wife, she’ll likely be looked down upon on blind dates.”
“They’ll think she doesn’t have time to take care of her family.”
“I just don’t know if Dr. Lord is destined to marry into a wealthy family and become a pampered wife. If she chooses my son, it would be a good match.”
The old lady smiled inwardly. Joans’s mother was trying to have it both ways—she wanted Flower Morgan as her daughter-in-law, and she also wanted Marry Lord. She valued Flower Morgan’s ability to manage a household, and she valued Marry Lord’s family background.
