He overheard his grandmother calling his two sisters-in-law while he was having breakfast.
Serenity said on the phone, “I was planning to go with Grandma, but she went last night. I have to take Belle with me, so it’s not appropriate for her to come. I was just talking to Zachary about how the four of us, along with Josh, will go to 8th Brother’s house for dinner later.”
“Just as I finished speaking, Grandma called. Grandma, is there anything we need to buy?”
The old lady said, “You guys can buy whatever you think is appropriate. Mainly, buy some food, drinks, and toys for the children. 8th Brother doesn’t have much here, and we’re worried the children might get bored.”
“Also, prepare a small gift for Marry. It doesn’t need to be too expensive. 8th Brother hasn’t won her over yet, so don’t give her anything expensive for now; Marry won’t accept it.”
“A small gift is fine. You don’t need to make a big deal out of it. Just bring it up when you’re chatting, and then say you have some here for Marry.”
Serenity said, “Grandma, don’t worry, I know how to do it.”
“Yes, Grandma trusts you completely. Okay, you two come over early. Eighth Brother will go to the Lord family to pick up Marry later. I’ll call Second Brother and his wife.”
After instructing Serenity, the old lady called York Rowan, who was still lazing in bed.
The couple were so engrossed in their sweet talk that they almost started trying to conceive when the old lady called.
York Rowan picked up his phone from the bedside table, glanced at the caller ID, and said to his wife, whom he had rolled over and pinned beneath him, “It’s Grandma.”
Newman Camryn quickly pushed him away, urging him, “Answer it quickly, Grandma must have something urgent to say.”
Even without her prompting, York Rowan answered immediately.
Grandma was getting old, and they were most afraid of receiving her calls, fearing it was a call for help.
“Grandma, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Or is there something you need us to do?”
York Rowan appeared calm, but was inwardly quite nervous.
“Grandma’s fine. You haven’t gotten up yet? You sound like you just woke up. You’ve all become lazy, sleeping in late on weekends. You need to stick to going to bed early and getting up early, and you need to exercise regularly. People get fat and lose their good looks in middle age.”
Hearing that his grandmother’s voice was still strong, York Rowan felt relieved, knowing everything was alright.
He said, “We’re usually busy, and it’s only a rare weekend off. Sleeping in a little longer isn’t illegal.”
The couple were usually so busy that even when they slept in the same bed, they didn’t have much time to chat, let alone be affectionate.
If they wanted to be affectionate, they had to arrange a time, avoid social engagements, and go home early.
They also had to wait until the children were asleep, otherwise they worried about being disturbed by them.
“Missing exercise for a couple of days won’t make me gain weight. I pay close attention to my fitness; I won’t get fat in middle age. I’m even more afraid of obesity than Grandma.”
“Do you three have any plans for today?”
the old lady asked.
Instead of answering, York Rowan asked, “Grandma, what are your plans?”
“If you don’t have any plans, bring Momo to 8th Brother’s place for a get-together. 8th Brother brought his sweetheart back, but they haven’t officially started dating yet, so be careful not to scare the young lady.”
Hearing the old lady say this, Newman Camryn immediately said from the side, “Grandma, we don’t have any plans. We’ll get up right away, eat something, and then go over. Momo also said she wants to play with her brother.”
