Back at the Lord family clinic, the main door was closed, but the lights were still on inside.
Marry Lord said, “My second uncle and aunt should be having dinner upstairs. They’ll come down and reopen the clinic after they finish eating, but there are usually not many patients at night.”
Evenings are much easier than daytimes.
Marry Lord got out of the car, unlocked the clinic door, and turned to Alex York, who had just gotten out, saying, “It’s still early, come in and have a cup of tea.”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking.”
Alex York helped her take the gifts he had received from the car.
Marry Lord reopened the clinic door.
She invited Alex York to sit at the tea table where her second uncle usually drank tea, then boiled water, poured out the tea from the old teapot, and brewed fresh tea.
“It’s still early, won’t drinking tea affect your sleep tonight?”
“No, maybe it’s because I drink too much coffee and tea, but even if I drink tea at night, I can sleep like a log.”
Marry Lord laughed, “I used to be unable to sleep all night after drinking a little tea, and now I’m almost the same as you.”
“Marry, you’re back.”
Her second aunt came downstairs.
The couple had just finished eating. Hearing the noise, the second aunt went downstairs first, while the second uncle was clearing the table.
“Second Aunt,”
Alex York called out, getting up.
The second aunt smiled and responded, and Alex York sat back down.
“Have you eaten?”
the second aunt asked.”I’ve already eaten. I was planning to come back this afternoon, but Grandma York insisted I stay for dinner, so I ate. Alex York cooked all the dishes himself. Second Aunt, Alex York’s cooking is excellent, even better than our housekeeper’s!”
Marry Lord praised Alex York to her second aunt.
The second aunt’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Alex York; her niece had truly struck gold.
This man came from a good family, had a good temperament, was capable, and could even cook so well—truly a man who could grace the halls of society and excel in the kitchen.
“Really? When can we try Alex York’s cooking?”
Alex York immediately replied, “If Second Aunt and Second Uncle would be so kind as to invite me over anytime, I can come and show off my skills.”
Knowing that the couple were busy with the clinic and couldn’t leave, Alex York didn’t invite them to his house for dinner, but instead accommodated them by cooking for them himself.
Auntie smiled broadly, “Then we won’t stand on ceremony. Come over and show off your skills whenever you have time. Don’t worry, we won’t mind, and we won’t treat you like an outsider.”
Alex York agreed.
Marry Lord watched her auntie’s cheerful smile and had a fleeting feeling that her auntie was about to sell her off.
She must be overthinking it.
Her auntie treated her like her own daughter. Since her uncle and auntie only had sons and no daughters, they were extremely kind to their nieces; how could they possibly sell her off?
Hmm, she was overthinking it.
“Marry.”
A sudden voice came, and the laughter in the room stopped.
Everyone looked at Dr. Joans as he walked in.
Seeing her senior, Marry Lord couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Could it be that Senior Joans still hadn’t given up?
