Chapter 2:

The Revenge Plan & The Impossible

The CEO’s Baffling Discovery Lucas York sat in his penthouse office, fingers pressed against his temples. The migraine that had been his constant torment for the past three days had vanished the moment he’d pulled that infuriating woman from the lake. Coincidence? He scowled. He tapped his desk, summoning David, his ever-loyal driver. “Find out everything about that woman. Emelly Clus.” David blinked. “The one you… pushed into the lake?” Lucas shot him a glare. “She fell.” “Sir, you told me yesterday that you accidentally shoved her—” “David.” David wisely shut his mouth and got to work. Within hours, Lucas had a file on Emelly Clus: 24 years old, born in Birbinghums, a small province known for its rolling hills and stubborn people. Graduated top of her class despite financial struggles. Currently temping at Brown Group—York’s biggest competitor. And then there was the most intriguing detail: Photographic memory. Recalls everything after one glance. Lucas leaned back in his chair. Interesting. His migraine had disappeared when he touched her. And now, he had proof she wasn’t just some clumsy temp—she was sharp. Too sharp. A slow smirk curled his lips. If she was this good, she belonged at York Group. And he was going to make sure she came—whether she liked it or not.

Emelly’s Revenge Scheme Meanwhile, in her tiny shared apartment, Emelly was plotting murder. “He pushed me into the lake, Jane! Like I was some kind of unwanted garden gnome!” She paced furiously, her damp hair still dripping from the impromptu swim. Jane Claudias, her best friend and roommate, snorted into her coffee. “And then he saved you. Sounds like a rom-com meet-cute to me.” Emelly threw a pillow at her. “This isn’t funny! That arrogant, migraine-ridden CEO ruined my favorite blouse!” Jane grinned. “So what’s the plan? Egg his car? Superglue his office chair?” Emelly’s eyes gleamed. “Better. I’m going to make him regret ever laying eyes on me.” Her phone buzzed. An unknown number. Unknown: Emelly Clus. This is Lucas York. We need to talk. Emelly’s jaw dropped. Jane peeked over her shoulder. “Ohhh, he’s texting you? Definitely a rom-com.” Emelly typed back furiously. About what? How to properly apologize before I sue you for attempted murder? A reply came instantly. Meet me at York Group tomorrow. 9 AM. I have a job offer. Emelly stared. Jane whistled. “A job offer? From the guy you hate?” Emelly’s lips curled into a wicked smile. “Oh, this is perfect.” She had just been handed the ultimate revenge opportunity. She was going to take that job—and make Lucas York’s life a living nightmare.

First Day Chaos The next morning, Emelly strode into York Group’s towering headquarters, her chin high. She was ready for war. Lucas was waiting in his office, looking infuriatingly composed. “You came.” Emelly crossed her arms. “I’m here to see how bad your offer is before I laugh in your face.” Lucas ignored the jab. “You’re hired as my new executive assistant.” Emelly blinked. “Excuse me?” “Your memory is an asset. I need someone who doesn’t forget details.” She narrowed her eyes. “And why would I work for you?” Lucas leaned forward, his gaze sharp. “Because Brown Group pays you peanuts. I’ll triple your salary.” Emelly’s resolve wavered. Triple? That would cover her mother’s medical bills. But then she remembered—revenge. She smirked. “Fine. But I have conditions.” Lucas raised a brow. “Name them.” “I get access to all departments. No micromanaging. And—” she pointed at him, “—no yelling at me when I accidentally spill coffee on your suit.” Lucas’s eye twitched. “Deal.” Little did he know, she had every intention of spilling that coffee. --- Scene 4: The Villainous Linda Crow Emelly’s first task? Organize a last-minute investor meeting. Linda Crow, Lucas’s former assistant, was not pleased. “You think you can just waltz in here and take my place?” Linda sneered, slamming a stack of files onto Emelly’s desk. “Good luck. These reports are due in an hour. Good luck.” Emelly flipped through them—disorganized, missing data, a disaster. Linda smirked. “Guess you’re not a s smart as you think.” Emelly grinned. “Oh, Linda. You have no idea.” With her photographic memory, she reconstructed the missing figures in minutes. When Lucas walked in, expecting failure, he instead found a perfectly prepared presentation. His eyes flickered with something like… respect? Emelly winked at Linda. “Better luck next time.” Linda’s face turned purple. --- Scene 5: The Impossible Task Lucas wasn’t done testing her.

At 5 PM, he dropped a massive contract on her desk. “Leo Brown is stealing our clients. Find the loophole he’s exploiting by tomorrow.” Emelly gaped. “That’s impossible! This is hundreds of pages!” Lucas smirked. “You have a super memory, don’t you?” Emelly wanted to strangle him. But as he walked away, she noticed something—his migraine was back. His jaw was clenched in pain. And for some stupid reason, she felt… bad. No. No sympathy for the devil. She buried herself in the files, determined to prove him wrong. But at midnight, bleary-eyed, she realized—there was no loophole. Leo Brown wasn’t stealing clients.

Someone inside York Group was leaking information. Her blood ran cold. If she told Lucas, he’d think she was lying to cover her incompetence. If she didn’t… the company could collapse. --- Cliffhanger Ending: Emelly stared at the damning evidence in her hands. She had to tell Lucas. But what if he didn’t believe her? What if the real traitor was someone close to him? And worse—what if they found out she knew? Her phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number: Stop digging, Clus. Or you’ll regret it. Emelly’s breath caught. She was in way over her head. And the only person who could help her… was the man she hated most. ---

To Be Continued… (Will Lucas believe Emelly? Who is the real traitor? And why does his migraine disappear only when she’s near? Stay tuned for Chapter 3!)
