The tension in Lucas York’s penthouse was thick enough to cut with a knife. Emelly Clus paced the length of the living room, her fingers twisting the hem of her sweater as she mentally rehearsed their plan for the hundredth time. Across from her, Lucas sat rigidly at his desk, his jaw clenched as he stared at the financial reports spread before him. The migraine that had been threatening all day pulsed behind his temples, but he refused to acknowledge it. Not now. Not when everything was at stake. “We have to move fast,” Emelly muttered, stopping abruptly. “Leo won’t wait long before he starts dismantling York Group from the inside.” Lucas exhaled sharply, rubbing his forehead. “I know.

Lucas exhaled, his migraine dulling under her warmth. “You’re too confident,” he muttered, though his lips twitched. “And you’re too stubborn,” she shot back, grinning. “But that’s why we make a good team.” Before Lucas could retort, his phone buzzed. Tony Bright’s name flashed on the screen. “Tony?” Lucas answered, putting it on speaker. “I found something,” Tony’s voice was urgent. “Linda wasn’t just leaking information—she was funneling company funds into an offshore account under Leo’s name.


If we can prove embezzlement, we might have a legal angle to stall him.” Emelly’s eyes lit up. “That’s it! If we leak the false data and expose the embezzlement, Leo won’t just lose credibility—he’ll be under investigation.” Lucas’s mind raced. “But we need solid proof. If we accuse him without undeniable evidence, he’ll turn it around on us.” “Leave that to me,” Jane’s voice chimed in from the background. “I’ve been digging into Linda’s socials. She’s not as careful as she thinks. There’s a trail.” A slow smirk spread across Lucas’s face. “Then let’s set the trap.” --- The next morning, York Group’s boardroom was a battlefield. Leo Brown sat at the head of the table, his smug grin widening as Lucas entered, Emelly right behind him. “Ah, Lucas,” Leo drawled. “I was just informing the board of my plans to restructure the company. You’re welcome to stay—as a guest.” Lucas didn’t flinch. “Actually, I’m here to discuss something more pressing.” He slid a folder across the table. “Like how you’ve been embezzling company funds through Linda Crow.”


Leo’s smirk faltered. He opened the folder, his face paling as he saw the bank records, the timestamps, the damning emails between him and Linda. “This is absurd,” Leo snapped, but his voice lacked its usual confidence. “Is it?” Emelly stepped forward, her tone sweetly mocking. “Because the Securities Commission might find it very interesting.” The room erupted into murmurs. Board members exchanged uneasy glances. Leo’s grip on the folder tightened, his knuckles white. Then, his phone rang.


He answered, his expression darkening with every passing second. When he hung up, his glare could have melted steel. “You leaked false financials to the press.” Lucas crossed his arms. “And now your investors are panicking. Your stock is plummeting. How does it feel to lose control, Leo?” For a heartbeat, silence. Then Leo lunged—not at Lucas, but at Emelly. Lucas moved faster, intercepting him with a sharp shove. “Touch her, and I’ll ruin more than just your reputation.” The tension crackled. Emelly, though startled, smirked. “Aw, Leo. Did we hit a nerve?” Leo’s lips curled into a snarl.


“This isn’t over.” “No,” Lucas agreed coldly. “It’s just the beginning.” As Leo stormed out, the boardroom buzzed with chaos. Emelly exhaled shakily, her fingers brushing Lucas’s. “We did it.” He squeezed her hand, his migraine completely gone. “We’re not done yet.”
