acey stared bitterly at the photos, pressing the button over and over again to r eplay Race’s smile in slow motion.
She should have been there for it. She’d missed a moment in his life that could never be retrieved exc ept on
camera. Being there in person would have been so much better.
She refused to look at the last two photos in the shoot again, but she couldn’t help thinking of them. One of Britt
holding Race over her head — a classic mother-baby pose — and the other one of Race resting on Luca’s chest.
Obviously, Britt and her husband were getting pretty chummy in her absence.
Such were the dangers of hiring a young and attractive Dutch nanny.
Jacey’s insides incinerated into black pools of jealousy and fear. Her marriage to Luca was one of convenience.
They hadn’t yet been together in the marital sense. What if in her absence he decided to — no. She couldn’t go
there in her head. She just couldn’t.
Thank God for makeup artists and her own professional acting skills.
It was all Jacey could do to fake her smiles through the next two nights of concerts.
