Ultimately, Serenity knew that nagging would not change much. At the end of the day, it was all up to Sonny himself and whatever fate had in store for him.
Not long after, Zachary returned home.
Knowing that Jeanne was only in the city for a night while stopping by on her business trip, Zachary had canceled his evening social obligations and hurried home, beating his son back to the house.
"Hey, Uncle Zack,” Jeanne called out sweetly the moment she saw him walk into the kitchen.
Zachary's expression softened. "Jeanne, why aren't you watching some TV in the living room or taking a walk in the courtyard to enjoy the view? I'll take over and help your aunt with the cooking."
Jeanne grinned. "I was just lending a hand."
Since Zachary was back, she happily excused herself from the kitchen to avoid playing third wheel to the couple.
With her usually hectic work schedule, Jeanne rarely had time for television and had no clue what shows were even trending, so she skipped the living room entirely and headed out to wander around the courtyard instead.
To Jeanne, Serenity's house was Sonny's and her second home. Everything there was deeply familiar to her.
After a casual stroll, she sat down inside the gazebo in the front yard, facing the main gates of the villa.
Suddenly, her phone started ringing.
She pulled it out, and seeing Corey's name flashing on the screen, she quickly answered.
"Jeanne, are you back in town?"
Corey, who used to be known as Mrs. Lewis, had long since become Old Mrs. Lewis. She had only found out Jeanne was back in the city because Duncan had accidentally let it slip.
“Nana, I was in Gallinger for a business trip. Since I'm done and will be passing through on my way back, I thought I'd stop by Wiltspoon for half a day. Did Dad tell you?"
Jeanne did not even need to ask to know Duncan was the source.
"Your dad did mention in passing. Where are you right now? Are you at Sonny's place or Serenity's? Are you coming home for dinner? I'll have the chef cook up your favorite dishes."
"Nana, I'm already at Aunt Seren's house. She's cooking right now, so I won't be coming over for dinner. But I'll head over right afterward to spend some time with you and Grandpa."
Hearing that, Corey immediately declared, "Tell Serenity that your grandfather and I are coming over to join all of you for dinner."
If Jeanne would not go to her, she would go to Jeanne.
That way, they could still share a meal.
Besides, when Serenity and Zachary personally cooked, the food was genuinely delicious. Corey did not mind at all that Jeanne chose to eat at the Yorks'.
Back when Grandma May was still alive, they used to dine at the Yorks' residence all the time anyway.
"Alright, I'll let Aunt Seren know. Nana, how about I drive over and pick you and Grandpa up?"
"No need for that. Your grandfather and I will just have the chauffeur drive us over. It's not that far, so there's no need for you to run back and forth. You must be exhausted from your business trip as it is.”
Jeanne yielded to her grandmother's wishes. "Alright then. Just make sure the chauffeur drives safely and takes it easy on the road."
"How fast can anyone even drive in the heart of the city anyway?"
With the streets packed with cars and traffic lights at every turn, speeding was not even an option.
