"I'm going to get your grandfather. We'll see you in a bit!"
Corey hung up the phone quickly.
The moment the call ended, she immediately ordered the butler to prepare some generous gifts for the Yorks. At the same time, she had the butler pack up some of Jeanne's favorite treats to bring along.
Even though Jeanne had everything she needed, she rarely came home these days, and when she did manage a visit, it was always for such a short time. As Jeanne's grandmother, the least she could do was prepare Jeanne's favorite snacks for her to take back.
It was a small token of a grandmother's love.
After Corey hung up, Jeanne did not head back into the house right away. Instead, she called to inform Serenity that Corey and Derek were coming over for dinner.
Serenity replied, "Don't worry about it. Even if your three uncles and their wives come over, we'll still have more than enough food. I figured they'd come over the moment they found out you were here."
After all, Jeanne was Duncan's only biological child.
Even though she was a girl, her status within the Lewis family was incredibly high. Her older cousins were all much older than her, making her the baby of the family, and everyone absolutely doted on her.
"I realized I didn't have much time," Jeanne explained, "so I was planning to head back to see them after dinner for a chat. However, when Dad spoke to Nana earlier, he mentioned I'd be passing through Wiltspoon on my business trip and might stop by. Nana then called me immediately to check.
"My schedule is just too tight. I don't even have enough time to visit all my relatives."
Serenity chuckled. "That's just how it is once you start working. You get incredibly busy. You carry a heavy burden and a lot of responsibility on your shoulders, so your free time is bound to be limited."
Since Jeanne had come to Serenity's place first, she really would not have much time left to spend back at the Lewis estate.
"It's fine. Once you're less busy, you can come back and spend some quality time with your grandparents."
Jeanne murmured an agreement. “Oh, I see Heath's car. Aunt Seren, I'm going to go open the gate for him."
She hung up the phone, stepped out of the gazebo, and walked toward the villa's front gate.
The butler had come out intending to open the gate, but seeing Jeanne already heading over, he stepped back.
Jeanne opened the massive villa gates for Heath to drive in, but before the gates could close again, Sonny arrived right behind him. Jeanne stood by the entrance, a warm smile on her face as she watched Sonny drive in.
Only after Sonny had parked safely inside did Jeanne finally close the gates.
Seeing that everything was handled, the butler turned around and headed back inside the house to wait for further instructions.
"Hey, Heath!" Jeanne greeted him with a bright smile.
"Long time no see, Jeanne."
Heath waited for Jeanne to approach before opening his arms and giving her a warm hug.
Sonny stepped out of his car and cut in, "It hasn't been that long, has it? When you go on business trips to Jensburg, you practically live at my place. As long as you're there, you see Jeanne every single day."
Heath released Jeanne and countered, “Even a single day apart feels like a long time to me."
He felt the same with Callia. Since Callia had started working at FC & Co., he had not seen her in a while, and it felt like a decade had passed.
He was already planning a trip to FC & Co. in a couple of days. Well, their companies did have business dealings, so he could just frame it as going in to discuss business with the Johnsons. Then, while he was there, he could check on Callia to see how she was doing and if she was adapting well.
"Why are you out here all by yourself?" Heath asked.
"Aunt Seren and Uncle Zack are both cooking in the kitchen, and they don't need my help. They told me to watch TV, but I didn't really feel like it, so I came out for a walk. You guys just got back, and Callia isn't home either, so who else was going to keep me company?"
Heath laughed. “Fair point. Come on, let's go inside. I honestly can't remember the last time I ate a meal cooked by my mom. Jeanne, I'm definitely riding on your coattails today."
Jeanne teased, "At the risk of making Aunt Seren angry, Uncle Zack's cooking is actually a little bit better."
Of course, the fact that Serenity had personally gone into the kitchen to cook for her during this visit meant the world to her, and she was grateful that Serenity had always treated her like a daughter.
