Who would dare trust or use an adversary's subordinate?
Manny fell silent.
He stopped and turned to look at Misty for a long moment before saying, "Forget it, just pretend I never said anything. Tomorrow, you can tell Laurence that you'd like to return to my side as my secretary.
"I'm getting on in years and I can't keep drinking like I used to at business dinners. Your alcohol tolerance is good, so you can help drink on my behalf.”
Manny valued Misty's alcohol tolerance the most.
She was pretty too, so it was easier to coax clients into agreeing to work together.
Sometimes, he even thought of claiming Misty as his own, but Misty rejected his advances, saying she just wanted to get married and be a good wife. She refused to be a mistress or a sugar baby.
Even if Manny could provide a materially luxurious life, he would not get divorced to marry her. His wife was also from an influential family, and he needed her family's support.
Plus, Manny had a few kids with his wife. Roxy, the oldest, was the same age as Misty.
Roxy did not like her, afraid she would climb into Manny's bed.
If not for her excellent alcohol tolerance and being somewhat decent at her work, while Manny protected her, Roxy would have gotten rid of her long ago.
Before Tony retired, he had many mistresses, but most of them were abandoned after having been played with for a short while. If he was in a good mood when they broke up, he would give them a sum of money. Otherwise, if it was an acrimonious split, it was unknown whether or not those mistresses still lived.
Only those simple mistresses who did not fight or try to compete for more could live well, give birth to his illegitimate daughters, and get a monthly allowance from him for their living expenses.
Those illegitimate daughters could not be compared to those borne by his legitimate wife. They could only marry a normal person from an average family, unlike his legitimate children being able to marry into wealthy families and live good lives as young missuses of the house, without having to worry financially.
Plus, whenever he needed someone for nefarious reasons, Tony always used his illegitimate daughters for these tasks, reluctant to use his own flesh and blood.
Misty might have been young and had never worked for Tony directly, but she was born and bred in Havenmill and had heard many unsavory stories about Tony.
She was all too aware of both his fondness for women and his cruelty.
Manny, on the other hand, was much better than his father, perhaps because he felt bad for his mother. Occasionally, he would cheat, but at least he would not do it openly and would uphold his wife's status and dignity. Plus, he did not have any children out of wedlock.
"If you propose it to Laurence, he'll let you return to my side. Don't wait for him to fire you. By then, nothing you say will be of use."
Manny gave up on the idea of using Misty to drive a wedge between Laurence and Noelle.
It would not work in reality.
This was because Misty had always been his secretary.
There was no way Laurence would trust her.
Perhaps in a couple of days, Laurence might replace Misty. It would be better for
Misty to request that Laurence assign her back to Manny's side.
Misty said, "Mr. Longbottom, can't you make the request to the CEO to let me continue being your secretary?"
Manny chuckled. "Alright, then. I'll propose to Laurence tomorrow that you continue
to be my secretary, and just let him pick a new one himself."
Laurence probably would not use even the most junior secretary in the entire company.
"Thank you, Mr. Longbottom," Misty said sweetly.
She could not replace Noelle, and she did not dare to confront her head-on either,
so preserving her job at Longbottom Corporation came first.
