Sonny opened the doors as Heath got out of the car and instructed his driver to head back for now and pick him up the next morning.
He followed Sonny into the villa.
"Your house is quiet too, Sonny."
“Of course, it's quiet at night. I'm usually the only one living here too. You're much luckier than I am. At least your parents are with you. Callie left home only after she started university, too, and you guys all lived together before that.
"My mom rarely has time to make the trip back from Jensburg. Dunc and Jiggy too. If I want some liveliness, I have to go to your house."
Heath recognized Sonny had a point and smiled, "That's true. I'm really lucky."
"Of course you are. I'm not that bad off either. We're all really lucky, so we shouldn't complain and take what we have for granted.
"How's the company?"
Heath answered as he walked, "It's running smoothly, which is great. It's just really busy. When I think back to my childhood, I always felt my parents didn't spend enough time with us, but now that I've taken over the family business, I realize how hard it must have been for them back then.
"If you asked me to follow my parents' example, leaving the office by ten and spending weekends at home with the kids, resting, I might not be able to do it."
It took a lot of effort to squeeze out even a little bit of time.
Tonight, he had actually gotten off work pretty early. He normally worked through the night and went to work as usual the next morning. If he got tired, he would take a ten-minute break and have a cup of coffee before continuing his work.
The office was closed on weekends, but he was still very busy. He could only rest on the weekend if Zachary magnanimously took over a part of his work the week before.
When he was young, he felt that his parents did not spend enough time with him, but once he became the head of the family, he realized how difficult it was.
Sonny laughed. "We still have it easy right now because we're not parents yet. Once we get married and have kids, then we can compare ourselves to our parents back then.
"You're twenty-seven now. Do you have anyone you like?
"No, I feel like I'm still a kid. I'm not in a rush to get married."
Heath chuckled. "You're the one who should worry. Aunt Libby and Mom are both really anxious, you know. I thought Ms. Flemming was quite nice and that something might spark between the two of you.
"I could tell Old Mr. Flemming was eyeing you as his grandson-in-law. He seemed to have had his eye on me too but maybe he gave up on the idea because Ms. Flemming and I couldn't keep a conversation going.
Although Heath was single, that did not mean he did not understand romantic love. As brilliant as he was and just because he had never dated, that did not mean he ad no exposure to the whole shebang.
When Everly and Kaden Flemming visited the York home, Heath could feel the old man's enthusiasm, wanting Heath to be his grandson-in-law. Reality soon made him give up the idea.
Primarily, Heath was a little younger than Everly and she obviously was not into younger men.
Secondly, her husband would have to marry into her family because she would not,
and Heath was the York heir, so that was never going to happen.
Kaden realized this, so he gave up on matchmaking him and Everly.
Then, he set his sights on Sonny.
