Sonny was surprised for a moment, not expecting Kaden to ask him to accompany Everly to a banquet.
If the two attended the banquet together, it was only going to fuel rumors.
Before he could refuse, Everly said, "Grandpa, I can go alone. There's no need to trouble Mr. Brown. I'll bring the bodyguards and my secretary with me, and they'll protect me.
"Besides, I usually don't drink that much at banquets. That's well known here in Clearfield. Few would dare force me to drink."
Though she was a girl, she was raised by her grandfather and started learning the ropes of the business in her teens. She was considered to have over a decade of experience in the industry. Having built her reputation with her status and identity, and with Flemming Group as her backing, no one dared to make light of her.
In fact, most people did not dare to provoke her, knowing she was not an easy one to deal with.
Some people schemed against her, but most of them were her relatives. They only dared to do so precisely because they were relatives, wanting to push her into a corner and marry a guy so they could manipulate her more easily.
They thought that even if she got mad afterward, she could not really do anything to them out of consideration for their family ties, especially her uncles and aunts.
When Everly went to her uncle's house, she would even get her own water for fear of being drugged.
She rarely visited her uncle's house, though. Even when she did, she would just set down the gifts and sit for a short while before leaving.
Her daily schedule was so packed that she simply did not have time to visit relatives.
She only accompanied her mother to visit them once a year during the Christmas holidays. Normally, her mother visited them alone.
Kaden glared at his granddaughter. "What do you know? People usually don't dare disrespect you because they're scared of me, and I'm protecting you. Once I'm not by your side, any Tom, Dick, or Harry might try to take advantage of you.
"Bodyguards and your secretary still aren't enough to protect you. It's only sufficient if a powerful person goes with you. Mr. Brown is the perfect choice. He keeps a low profile here in Clearfield, but with his identity, who would dare look down on him?"
Seriously, that girl. He was doing his best to create an opportunity for her and Sonny to spend some time alone together, but she refused it.
It was such a rare opportunity, too.
Sonny rarely came to Clearfield. He was only here this time for work.
If she did not take this opportunity to spark something with Sonny, such a good man was going to be snatched away, especially with so many eyeing the position of Mrs. Brown.
"Grandpa!" Everly was angry. "Am I that weak? I were someone who could be pushed around the momentOur side, would yo
be able to hand the reins of Flemming Group over to me without worry?"
Her grandfather could not deliberately undermine her just because he wanted to matchmake her and Sonny, now, could he?
She was not a single bit inferior to a man.
"You're my only grandchild. No matter your level of capability, you're the only person Flemming Group can be entrusted to."
Everly was speechless for a moment
before she said, "If you think I'm too weak to lead this family, you can hire
a professional manager just focus on spending money and stop working."
"Oh, that won't do. I only trust my own family And you're not that
ет
weak, alright? You're more than capable of keeping this family, afloat and I know I can entrust this family to you without worry. But it's still too tiring for you to do all of this alone, and it's better for you to find a good helping hand who'll be able to give you room to take a breather.
"Then, at least, you wouldn't be so tired that you don't have time to even breathe.”
"Grandpa, if I didn't have time to even breathe, I'd be dead. Anyway, it's settled. You're not feeling well, so I'll just attend tonight's banquet with my secretary.
"Don't worry and just go home and rest. Don't worry about the networking, it's not like this is my first rodeo."
In her grandfather's words, she was his only grandchild. She had been raised as his successor.
What storms had she not witnessed?
