Kaden looked pleadingly at Sonny.
Sonny did not want them to continue fighting, so spontaneously, he said, "I do want to get to know Clearfield's industry leaders. Since you're so kindly giving me this chance, I won't refuse your good intentions.
"Ms. Flemming, I won't work late tonight. I'll go with you to that banquet. When the time comes, I'll have to trouble you to introduce me to them."
The moment the words left his mouth, there was no room for regret.
Nevertheless, he did not regret it. It was just a brief moment of weakness that made him not want to continue watching the show.
Everly's head whipped around to glare at him, accusing him of giving in to her grandfather. He had opened the floodgates and now her grandfather would keep making requests like this.
Sonny chuckled, "It's fine if you don't want my accompaniment. We can go our own ways, but I didn't get an invitation, so I might get stopped at the door."
That would be embarrassing.
Kaden hurriedly reassured, “That won't happen. I'll give you mine so you can bring it with you, and I'll call Arndt in advance to give him a heads up too."
It was enough that Sonny agreed to go.
The rest were minor issues.
Arndt Lang and Kaden were old friends. Arndt knew Kaden was anxiously looking for a grandson-in-law. He always invited Kaden and Everly to his family's banquets.
He would also invite the local young talents so Kaden could pick through them at the banquet.
Arndt said he watched Everly grow up, and so he wished she could find a good man too. He lamented that his own grandson was more than a decade younger than Everly. The age gap was too large for the two families to be united in matrimony, or else Arndt would have called dibs on Everly as a granddaughter-in-law long ago.
"Great."
Kaden repeatedly thanked Sonny and even winked at his granddaughter.
Everly sighed, exasperated.
After the meal, they chatted for a little while longer before Sonny and Everly left the hotel together. Since Kaden lied and said he needed rest because he was not feeling Well Everly had him sent home.
Under his bodyguards' protection, Kaden returned to the Flemming residence.
At the door, he met Maddie, who was about to leave to visit her brother.
"Dad, why are you back?" Maddie
was very surprised to see her father-in-law home. Normally, he only got back late at night Sometimes she felt self-deprecating when she saw Kaden still working
overtime late into the night for the
family business despite his
advanced age.
She felt bad for not being capable of sharing the burden, but luckily, her daughter
had grown into her potential and could help Kaden.
"I didn't feel well, so I came back. Are you going to visit your parents?"
When Kaden saw Maddie carrying bags of various sizes, he guessed she was visiting her brother again.
No matter what time of year her visits to her brother might be, she would bring all sorts of gifts.
Kaden did not care about these trifles, which were probably nothing more than some supplements. The Flemmings were well off enough to afford it.
The expensive stuff was all registered and inventoried, so even if Maddie wanted to, it would be hard to give it away.
The good stuff was to be left to Everly, and he could not let Maddie just give everything away to her birth family. This was why he had all the expensive stuff at home inventoried and registered.
It was not that he wanted to be on guard against Maddie, but she was simply too softhearted and was easily influenced by her siblings, as she felt sympathy for their hardships.
