Steven's arrogance visibly diminished, and he looked somewhat guilty, but he quickly asked with concern, “Is Old Mr. Flemming alright? Does he need to go to the hospital?"
They could not afford for anything to happen to the old man.
Although Kaden was incredibly annoyed with the Zellers, he still remembered that their families were in-laws and was willing to continue helping Zellerco.
If Kaden were no longer around, Everly would take over. She had little affection for the Zellers, so Steven could not guarantee that the family would continue to receive help from the Flemmings.
He had heard that Everly wanted to cut ties with Zellerco more than once, saying that doing business with them was essentially charity.
His niece really was ruthless.
She did not treat him, her uncle, particularly well either. The only people she was close to were her grandparents, but once they were gone, she could bring the axe down at any moment, and the Zellers would be finished.
Steven understood that clearly. That was why he was so desperate to gain some leverage over Everly through her marriage. He wanted to secure a future for himself and the Zellers instead of living in constant fear like now.
“He's fine. He just needs rest. He won't be attending tonight's banquet, but he asked Flemming Group's distinguished guest to accompany Everly instead. It's the same guest that Nate insulted at lunchtime.
“His name is Sonny Brown, the head of Lewis & Co. in Wiltspoon. He's also the nephew of Mrs. York, wife of the richest man in Wiltspoon. I heard he's been very close to the York son since he was little, and the York couple has always treated him like their own son.
"He's extremely capable, handsome, and outstanding in every aspect. His character, manners, and bearing are all top-notch. My father-in-law has chosen him as a match for Everly and is trying to create opportunities for them to spend time alone together.
"Sonny will be accompanying her to the banquet tonight."
Maddie looked at Steven and Tessa with a serious expression, saying, "Steven, my father-in-law asked me to tell you something. You don't need to concern yourselves with Everly's marriage anymore. He'll take care of it.
“He also said a lot of things to me. To put it simply, he's had enough. If you keep meddling, you'll only damage the relationship between our families."
Maddie had thought about it carefully on the way back.
She knew she was soft-hearted and had trouble seeing things clearly sometimes. It was easy for her siblings to manipulate her into doing things for them, but she genuinely loved her daughter.
Maddie had indeed been disappointed to learn that Everly was a girl when she was born. She had wanted to give Ike a son since she believed a boy would have an easier time inheriting the family fortune.
However, she was only disappointed for a while before accepting reality. Even if Everly was a girl, she was still the fruit of her and her husband's love.
Kaden was right. Everly was the only child in the Flemming family, and everything belonging to the family would eventually be handed over to her. If Maddie
lped her own family scheme against Everly, it was her daughter who would ultimately
suffer.
She valued family ties and was easily persuaded by her siblings to do things that made Everly unhappy. However, if she had to choose between her daughter and her siblings, she would definitely choose the former.
Sonny was truly a good man. He was genuinely worthy of her daughter.
Kaden said that Sonny was outstanding in both character and skill. He would not covet the Flemming fortune because he came from a wealthy family.
Most important of all was his character.
With a man of good character, there was no need to worry that he might eventually
try to seize the Flemming assets or harm Everly.
Kaden also said that the elders
around Sonny were all husbands
who spoiled their wives. Sonny had
grown up in that kind of
environment, so he would likely
become the same kind of devoted
husband himself.
If Everly and Sonny ended up together, they would truly be a perfect match.
Maddie chose to trust Kaden.
