---
Keira stood frozen, staring at the woman before her with disbelief churning in her chest. The ponytail, the bright and dazzling smile, those clear eyes that seemed untouched by the harsh realities of the world – everything about Erin screamed innocence and naivety. That had been Keira's first impression when they met, and she had held onto that image until this very moment. But now, standing here with the truth crashing down around her, Keira could scarcely believe that this gentle-looking woman was actually Fox – the mastermind behind so much chaos and manipulation.
Her heart pounded as she stepped closer, clutching her phone. "Erin, are you really Fox?"
"Indeed," Erin replied, and just like that, the mask crumbled. No more pretending. No more innocent games. She hung up the call and turned to greet Uncle Olsen beside Keira with a polite, "Hello, Uncle."
She appeared so sensible, so well-mannered – like a dutiful junior paying respects to an elder. But Uncle Olsen saw through it all. His face twisted with confusion and anger as he looked from Keira back to Erin. "I'm not well," he said flatly.
Erin blinked, caught off guard.
Uncle Olsen's frown deepened. "The poison in me – was it you who administered it?"
A slight smile curved Erin's lips. "Yes, Uncle, you don't need to thank me for enhancing your health!"
The audacity made Uncle Olsen's face darken like a storm cloud. "If I hadn't known the whole story, I might have believed you. You nearly killed me. Is that what you call improving my health?"
Erin pursed her lips innocently. "Uncle, you are Charles's uncle, which makes you family. Why would I harm you?"
Then she turned to Keira, her smile never wavering. "Aren't you curious, with so many poisons and mind-controlling drugs at my disposal, why I specifically chose Seven Days? It was to enhance Uncle's health. Consider it a gift to the Olsen family! Oh, and by the way..." Her eyes sparkled with amusement as she looked at Keira. "Even if the antidote you gave Uncle was the wrong one, it's alright because that would still be an antidote."
Keira's eyes narrowed as realization dawned. "You and my sister – are you not in a hostile relationship?"
"Of course not." Erin laughed lightly. "Fox and the Rabbit – we're both from the South family in Crera. We've been allies since we left the family at age five."
Still cautious, Keira pressed, "Why should I believe you?"
"Because of Amy."
Erin's voice dropped, becoming more serious. "You must know Amy's full name, right?"
Keira's jaw tightened painfully. Amy – her sister's only daughter, the person Keira had cared about most before her death. Her sister had begged Keira to take care of Amy, to ensure she wouldn't suffer. When Keira returned home, she discovered Amy's name on her formal ID was Erin.
Erin smiled knowingly. "She's also called Erin, like me. This is how your sister showed her submission and loyalty to me."
Keira gasped. "What?"
Spreading her hands, Erin explained, "Your sister knew she wasn't capable, so she surrendered to me long ago. Amy is the heir she gave birth to for me."
Confusion twisted Keira's features. "If that's the case, why didn't you just come clean? Why engage in this struggle with me?"
Erin sighed, her expression shifting to one of genuine frustration. "When Fox and Rabbit left the South family, Rabbit agreed to bear a child for Fox as a sign of loyalty and name the baby after Fox. But it's been seventeen years – how could I know if she hadn't changed her mind? Rabbit started acting strangely these past few months."
She patted her chest dramatically. "I thought Rabbit had betrayed me, that she was reneging on our agreement. It scared me to death! I feared our agreement was over. I didn't know you had replaced her."
Keira was speechless, her mind racing. She watched Erin closely, noting the unsophisticated look in her eyes that suggested honesty – but Erin had always seemed harmless. How could Keira trust anything she said now?
As Keira pondered, Erin walked over and sat on the couch, completely at ease. They were in the living room where servants worked at a distance – close enough to maintain appearances, far enough to prevent eavesdropping while offering an open view.
Keira continued to stare at her. "So, when you realized I wasn't my sister, you came to see me?"
"Not exactly." Erin rested her chin on her hands, smiling broadly. "Besides that, you already knew I was Fox, didn't you? What's the point of continuing the charade? Let's lay all our cards on the table!"
Keira remained silent.
Erin continued, "There's no need to deny it. If you didn't know I was Fox, you wouldn't have told Charles about Vera South, intending for him to relay the message to me. But I'm curious – where did I slip up? Was it the 'South' in my name?"
"No." Keira met her gaze steadily. "I've suspected you for a while."
"Since when?" Erin asked, genuinely intrigued.
Keira explained, "Back in the day, to fit the persona of an innocent young lady, you insisted on helping a wife who was a victim of domestic abuse. You remember that, right?"
"Of course," Erin smiled, "I thought, as an innocent young lady, I should intervene, so I chose to help them. You even lectured me afterward, didn't you? What? Didn't I seem convincing enough?"
"You were too convincing," Keira replied. "The environment of the Martin family couldn't possibly nurture true innocence. The fact that you grew up innocent is a discrepancy. You threw a smokescreen, making me think that Fox, like Rabbit, would marry into the Martin family to gain support. But it dawned on me when I later found out that the older generation had been laying the groundwork and that old Mr. Martin's granddaughter was me. Rabbit's elders would pave the way for her, but Fox's elders would do the same for Fox. Like your mother marrying into the Martin family, right?"
Erin's smile widened. "You're really smart. But you got one thing wrong – my mother didn't marry into the Martin family. She had a one-night stand with Scott Martin's father. By the time I was born, I already had the identity of Erin as a cover. No one knew where Fox was all these years..."
Keira locked eyes with her. "So what now? You show up and make a big scene by coming here – what does that mean?"
Erin stared back, her gaze unwavering. "I want to know, if Charles and I truly love each other, Uncle Olsen, will you support Rabbit or me?"
Before Uncle Olsen could answer, Erin laughed again. "But there's no rush. When my grandfather arrives, I'll ask him this question. Between me and Rabbit, a choice has to be made."
