Chapter 11
Chapter 11
-GRAYSON~
I was hard as fucking stone and it was entirely her fault.
Blair Monroe lay on the other side of my bed like she owned it, completely naked, completely unbothered, and completely aware of what she was doing to me.
My plan had been simple: throw her clothes in the pool, remind her that I controlled this arrangement, and make her uncomfortable enough to keep her distance. Instead she had walked out of the bathroom bare, slid into bed, and left me in pain with no dignified way to handle it.
I couldn’t stop noticing things I had no business noticing. The soft look of her skin in the low light. The curve of her waist against the sheets. Her damp hair all over the pillow. My hands itched with the stupid, reckless urge to reach over and find out if she felt as smooth as she looked.
I was pissed at her.
I was more pissed at myself.
This was not supposed to happen. She was a debt. A temporary complication. The last woman I should be reacting to like this.
I dragged a hand down my face and tried to think about anything else–practice schedules, the ice, literally anything that wasn’t the naked woman sharing my bed–when the bedroom door opened without a knock.
To my horror, Lily stepped inside.
She made it two steps before her eyes landed on Blair.
Then she screamed.
‘What the fuck???”
shot off the bed so fast I nearly tripped. “Lily–it’s not what it looks like.”
Blair, the absolute menace, smiled like she was enjoying every second of this. She didn’t even reach for a sheet. It’s almost ike she knew Lily would be here at this moment.
‘I am the wife,” she said sweetly. “You shouldn’t be explaining anything to her, sweetie. Especially not after you were just nside me-”
‘Blair.” My voice came out sharp.
She blinked at me with fake innocence. “What? I’m just clarifying the situation for her.”
Lily’s face went from shock to pure fury. “Are you serious right now? You’ve been married for one day and you’re already sleeping with her?”
‘I am not-” I started.
How could she even believe that? And how did Blair not have a care in the world that I could see her naked right now?
She stretched lazily against the pillows, still making no effort to cover herself. “Technically we’ve been married for several hours. And he was very attentive-”
‘Stop talking,” I snapped at her.
She closed her mouth, but the satisfied little curve of her lips remained.
I grabbed a hoodie from the chair and yanked it on as I moved toward Lily, who already had tears of rage shining in her eyes. ‘Come on. Outside. Now.”
Lily turned and stormed out. I followed, shutting the door hard behind us before Blair could add anything else to make this
worse.
We made it halfway down the hall before Lily turned on me.
“Explain,” she demanded. “Right now.”
“It’s not what you think.”
“She’s naked in your bed, Grayson!”
“Because I threw all her clothes in the pool,” I said, the words sounding even stupider out loud. “She invited Chase to the reception. I retaliated. She decided the best response was to walk around with nothing on until she got new clothes.”
Lily stared at me like I had lost my mind. “So your solution to her inviting your rival was to destroy her wardrobe…and now
Chapter 11
she’s using her body to mess with you?”
Wes
And you’re just letting her?”
‘I’m not letting her do anything. She blindsided me.”
Lily let out a harsh, disbelieving laugh. “She blindsided you by getting naked? You’re a grown man. You could have left the room. You could have given her a shirt, Instead I walk in and find her in your bed talking about you being inside her-”
‘She was lying,” I cut in. “On purpose. She wanted you to think that.”
“Why would she want that?”
‘Because she’s vindictive and she knows exactly what she’s doing.” I ran a hand through my hair, still uncomfortably aware of the lingering pressure in my body. “This whole marriage is already a mess. She’s not making it easier.”
Lily’s eyes searched my face, looking for something she clearly didn’t find. “You looked guilty when I opened the door.”
‘I looked surprised.”
‘You looked guilty.”
‘Lily.”
She took a step back, arms wrapping around herself. “You told me you would make her hate you. You told me this was temporary. You told me I had nothing to worry about. And now she’s naked in your bed on the first night and you’re defending the situation instead of throwing her out.”
‘I’m not defending her.”
‘Then what are you doing?”
I didn’t have a clean answer. The truth was messy. I was angry at Blair for the stunt. I was angrier at my body for reacting. And I was still stuck with the knowledge that I owed her family enough to go through with this marriage in the first place.
‘I’m handling it,” I said finally.
_ily’s expression hardened. “Handle it better. Because if this is what the first night looks like, I don’t know how long I’m supposed to stand around waiting for you to come back to me,
never left her.
She didn’t give me a chance to respond. She turned and walked down the hallway, leaving me standing there with the very clear realization that Blair Monroe had just made my life significantly more complicated–and that part of me was already wondering what she would do next.
