Chapter 144
ROMAN- MAN-
I could not believe Ethan had dared me to sleep outside in the fucking sand.
One blanket. One pillow. The house a little distance behind me. I was going to get him back for this. Something that left him miserable. I was already planning my revenge.
I sighed and sat down.
At least I was away from the house. Away from Olivia in those sexy bikinis. Maybe out here I could have a
clear head.
My phone screen killed that hope.
Twenty missed calls from my mother. Twenty from my father. Each. Of course. I had skipped the weekend they wanted articles posted about the fake relationship.
I had left Eden in the city. I could have invited her. I chose not to.
When I went home, I would hear about all of it. Helena did not leave twenty calls for nothing. Victor did not either.
I turned the phone face down.
Frustration stayed in my jaw. At Ethan. At myself. At the question I had refused. Do you see yourself marrying Eden? I had picked a night out here in the cold over an honest no.
Now I was on the beach with a blanket that did not cover what I was still thinking about.
I looked up at the sky and shoved the pillow into a less terrible shape.
I watched the stars. Then started counting them. Anything that was not her mouth. Anything that was not the shower and us in it.
One. Two…Olivia. Three.
Well, that was a terrible fail. I kept seeing her blush when Tessa asked who she was interested in. I kept seeing that yes clearly meant for me. She didn’t hide that she wanted me. It both terrified and turned me
the fuck on.
I resumed counting the stars when Olivia came into view.
I got a straight view between her legs, the tiny bikini bottoms barely covering anything.
I almost choked.
I could not believe my fucking luck.
I had left the house to get away from her. I had taken a dare that was supposed to be punishment. And still here she was, ready to drive me insane.

“What are you doing out here?”
ooked around Checking the windows or the deck to see if there was anyone who might see her standing over me like this. William. Ethan. A camera.
“You shouldn’t be here. Get back inside.”
“You don’t own the beach.” She said it lightly, which made it worse. “I came for a midnight swim.”
Of course she did. Why didn’t she come with any of her other siblings? Why just her?
Frustration boiled within me. She had heard the dare. She had watched me walk out with a blanket. She knew I would be here and chose this exact time to go for a swim in that tiny bikini.
She turned around without saying another word.
I was forced to watch her ass as she walked toward the water. That tiny red bottom. The sway she had to know I would follow with my eyes. The ocean waiting like this was an innocent interaction.
Fuck.
My body responded immediately. Hard. Fast. No negotiation. The blanket became a problem.
The stars became a joke. Seeing her now-hips, ass, that waist I had held, made it worse.
I became hungrier. Angrier at myself for being this easy.
“Olivia.”
She did not stop.
The water took her ankles, then her knees. She glanced back once, just enough for me to see she knew exactly what she was doing. Then she went deeper.
Damn it. This was fucking torture and she knew it. Did she enjoy doing this to me?
Do not go after her.
Do not go after her.
I kept repeating those words in my head.
I sat there hard and furious and counting. I could not believe this was my night.
I needed to clear my mind and distract myself from intrusive thoughts. I tried to think about something entirely different, like basketball. I imagined myself in practice, focusing intently on shooting drills. I did everything I could to divert my attention away from Olivia, who was swimming in the ocean, appearing more inviting than necessary.
I dragged the blanket higher and stared at the sky again.
I could not fucking focus.
I wanted her out of the ocean and back in the house. I wanted her on this blanket. I wanted both and hated

What the hell was wrong with me? Where was all my control? Since when did I become so hungry for a woman I couldn’t have?
The phone buzzed against the sand. Another call I would not answer.
“Go inside,” I said, louder, even though she might not hear it over the waves. I still attempted it a second time, even louder than before. I was trying anything to get her to leave.
She lifted a hand. A wave. A fuck you. A come here. I could not tell and that was the problem.
I was the idiot who had chosen out here instead of answering a question.
It seemed as though I’d gotten myself in even more trouble with this decision.
I dropped back on the pillow and stared at the sky.
I did not count stars this time.
I counted the reasons I could not get in that water with her.
