Chapter 151
-ROMAN-
They were waiting for me the second I got home.
Not a conversation. An ambush.
“You disappointed us,” my mother said.
“You did the opposite of what we asked,” my father added. “We sent Eden to the coast. You treated it like an inconvenience. You left early. You were seen looking unhappy. That is not the arrangement.”
I set my bag down harder than I needed to. Sand still in the seams. Olivia still in my head. The beach house still on my skin like I had not showered it off.
“I don’t want to continue the PR relationship. I want it finished. Immediately.”
My mother laughed once, short. “It is under contract. We are making money from it. You cannot get out of it just yet.”
Irritation flashed hot.
I did not want to keep hurting Olivia. Especially not after Eden had shown up at the beach house and ruined it. Walked into a weekend that already had Olivia in it. Put her hands on me in front of her. Smiled in that kitchen like she owned the place.
“I didn’t agree to a contract that includes ambushing a family trip.”
“You have a name. The name has terms. Eden Hart is one of them until the dates are fulfilled.” My father reminded me.
“Find someone else to stand next to her.”
“There is no one else with your face and your season,” my mother answered. “You will finish what was booked. Dinners. Appearances. The post we already approved. Then we talk. Not before.”
I dragged a hand through my hair. Olivia’s voice in my head. The text I had sent from the car once Eden was not forcing me to have a conversation with her. I had already told Olivia I wanted her tomorrow night. Before the game. For luck. I just wanted her in general. Now that I had a taste, I felt like an addict.
My parents wanted me focused on the same night like Olivia did not exist. Well, they didn’t know about her yet and I preferred to keep it that way. My parents ruined everything good in my life.
“You have an important game tomorrow,” father said. “Focus on that. Bets were placed. People who matter are watching the line. You need to win. No matter what.”
Bets.
Of course.
More ways for them to add to their bank accounts.

y harder,” my mother said. “Do not get distracted.”
I wanted to laugh. They had no clue just how distracted I was recently.
I went upstairs before I said something I could not put back.
In my room I sat on the bed and stared at the message I had sent Olivia.
50 vouche
Then I stared at the calendar. Game. Parents. Contract. A woman I did not want and a woman I could not
stop wanting.
I could not get out of Eden yet. She would still be stuck to me even though I would hate every second of it.
I did not know what this thing with Olivia even was. I just knew I didn’t want it to end.
It was not dating. We hadn’t put a name on it and thankfully she didn’t ask me yet. Though, I had a feeling that the question was pending.
It was not a fling I could finish and walk away from. I had tried walking away. I had said I would never have sex with her like my words could save both of us.
That rule felt like it was very close to breaking.
She sent one text about Luca and I drove like the coast was on fire. She walked into a shower and I let her take me apart. She stood over my blanket dripping and I pulled her down. She locked herself in a room all day and I opened the door. I put my cock against her and held the line by inches. Then I left with Eden in the passenger seat and texted Olivia just what I wanted from her even though I hadn’t said goodbye.
So what the fuck was I really doing?
I wanted her. That much was no longer a debate.
Red hair. Blue eyes. That mouth. The way she said my name when she came. The way she looked at me when I told her never-like I had offered her everything except the thing that would make it real.
I did not want to end it. The thought of stopping, of going back to only being Ethan’s friend who nodded at her across a kitchen, made my chest go tight in a way that had nothing to do with practice.
I also knew it could not turn into anything.
My friendship with Ethan would not survive the truth. The problem would no longer be Luca.
It would be me.
And my parents would not allow a Monroe entanglement that was not useful to them. I did not want Olivia mixed up in their money-making schemes.
They had Eden on a contract. They had bets on tomorrow. Olivia was not a headline they could sell.
I lay back and looked at the ceiling, pissed at the contract, pissed at my parents, pissed at myself for thinking I could keep both lives from colliding.

They had already collided.
id not know how to name what we were.
A dirty secret.
It definitely wasn’t a mistake. She was the only thing that felt like mine in a house that managed me like an asset. I only knew I was not done. I knew staying away was the instruction I had already failed, over and over, every time she was in the same building.
Tomorrow I had to win a game people had bet on.
Tomorrow night I had also promised to put my mouth on Ethan’s sister.
I would do both.
I turned the phone face down so I would not text her again. I didn’t know what this was. I knew I didn’t want it to stop.
I no longer had a plan.
What was I doing exactly?
Whatever I could get away with. Clearly.
Until I couldn’t…
