Chapter 60

~GRAYSON~

I couldn’t believe those words.had just left my mouth.

It’s about time we consummated our marriage.

Fuck. What the fuck was wrong with me?

Blair was still straddling my lap, eyes wide, lips parted, the entire length of her frozen against me like I had shocked her.

My hands were on her waist. Her body was warm and real and very fucking dangerous.

I had just told my wife that we should have sex like it was a practical next item on a list I had any right to read from.

I needed help. Professional help, immediately, preferably before I made this worse.

I knew I shouldn’t have said it. Lily would hate me for the rest of her life if she could hear the inside of my head right now. I would lose her for good-the years we spent together, the version of myself that had always known exactly who my future belonged to. That should have been enough to shut my mouth and put Blair back on her feet.

It wasn’t.

Because ever since Chase leaned in at that faceoff and said he’d had her first, something in me had been going insane.

It was almost like he was boasting. Like he was telling me I still didn’t know what it was like to be with her. Like he owned some private knowledge of her body I hadn’t earned and never would.

And fuck me-I had thought about it…being inside her.

More times than I was proud of.

Blair under me. Blair’s legs spreading wide. The pure, stupid, obsessive need to slam into that tight pussy and find out exactly what she felt like from the inside. And it was tight. Unreasonably tight. From the way she had clenched around my fingers in the pool to the way she had felt against my tongue, she was so tight I had actually wondered, against every better instinct, whether Chase was working with nothing.

She had felt almost untouched.

But that was impossible. I knew it was impossible. She had been with him for years. Six years.

People didn’t spend that long in a relationship and stay locked down like that. Whatever the explanation was, it wasn’t innocence,

None of that made what I had just said smarter.

Blair’s breath hitched. For a second I thought she might actually answer-yes, no, you’re out of your mind, get your hands off me. The silence stretched, her body still on top of mine, my pulse pounding hard enough I was sure she could feel it.

Then something in her snapped into motion.

She scrambled off my lap so fast I barely had time to loosen my grip.

One second she was there, warm and stunned; the next she was on her feet, backing toward the hallway like the chair itself had become unsafe.

She didn’t look at me when she went. She just put distance between us with the quickness of a woman who had decided the conversation was over before it could become a decision.

A door shut upstairs a moment later.

I winced.

Tstayed in the chair with my hands empty and my body still worked up from having her on top of me.

Fuck.

I dragged both palms down my face and exhaled hard through my nose, staring at the space she had just occupied.

The cut near my eyebrow throbbed. My knuckles ached from the fight. None of it competed with the question in my head.

Was that a yes or a no?

She hadn’t said either. She had looked at me like she wanted it for a few seconds before that look was completely masked.

In the absence of an answer, all I had was the same obsessive pull that had been getting worse since the first time I put my mouth on her.

I stood up too fast, hoping that any movement might burn off what the fight and Chase’s voice and Blair’s silence had put in me.

It didn’t.

She was upstairs. I was down here with words I couldn’t take back and a body that had already chosen a side.

Lily’s name stayed at the edge of my thoughts.

What was I doing? For years I thought I knew that she was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Now, I was fucking confused.

Blair’s name now sat in the center, inconvenient and consuming.

I looked toward the stairs.

Then I forced myself to walk the other way-kitchen/cold water, anything that wasn’t following her up to a door she had clearly closed on purpose, while the question kept circling without mercy.

Yes or no?

And why did the fact that I needed the answer this badly feel like the most dangerous part of the entire night?
