-BLAIR-
Olivia had promised it would be a normal party.
It was not. Roman’s place was packed, filled with his teammates and the girls they’d invited.
I would have stayed home, wrapped in the comfort of my bed, but Olivia had made it clear I couldn’t. Of course, she desperately wanted to be at the party. This was Roman-the boy she admired quietly from afar, her crush. He was our brother’s best friend, the kind of guy she would find any excuse to be near. Given how supportive she had been towards me lately, I felt I owed it to her to attend the gathering with her today. It was what sisters did for each other. Still, I struggled to enjoy myself, my mind constantly drifting back to images of Grayson kissing Lily. The memory refused to fade, tormenting me anew each time I closed my eyes. Then I came across online articles detailing their recent dates-a photo of Grayson holding Lily’s hand at the coffee shop, another of them sharing a laugh during a walk in the park. It was all just too much to bear.
He looked happy. With her. Like he was finally where he wanted to be. I bit my lip. How did I let myself fall for him? I always knew he wanted to be with her.
“Cheer up,” she said, pressing a glass of water into my hand. “You are allowed to have a little fun.”
I sighed. “I am having a difficult time doing that. All I can think about is Grayson.”
Olivia’s teasing stalled. “I still can’t believe that asshole Chase told him about the pregnancy. I thought threatening him about his job would have been enough to stop him from being an asshole. I never should have underestimated him.”
“Chase likes messing with Grayson. Especially after everything. He probably doesn’t believe you would do anything to his job either.”
She rolled her eyes, “let’s talk about Grayson. He still has not tried to get you back?” The disbelief in her voice was almost funny. “Blair. You are pregnant. How does a man find that out and not lose his mind?”
“He does not seem to know the baby is his.”
I had chosen to keep that detail from my sister until now. If I’d said something at the event, she probably would have confronted both Chase and Grayson.
Olivia stared at me like I had spoken another language. “I’m sorry. What?”
“He knows I am pregnant. He does not act like he knows it is his.” I swallowed. “The way he said it, it wasn’t like a man who knew the baby was his.”
“Chase,” she said immediately.
I sighed. “I do not know why Chase would do something like that.”
Olivia rolled her eyes. “Because Chase always has something up his sleeve to benefit himself. He heard you in that hospital. He has been trying to get Grayson out of your life since he found out you were a Monroe. He knows if Grayson finds out that you’re having his baby, he will not stay away.”

I wasn’t so sure about that anymore. Grayson seemed happy with Lily. I was just holding him back from her. Now he was free to do as he pleased.
“If Grayson thinks it belongs to another man,” I said quietly, “then he’s going to believe I moved on.”
“Then you tell him the truth.” She told me. “Tell him the truth. Don’t wait for the people around him to feed him more lies. See for yourself if he wants the baby, if he wants you.”
Even though I wanted to tell him the truth, I was scared. Terrified that he would break my heart again. Part of me felt that it was safer not knowing.
“I don’t think now is the right time.” I admitted.
“You are carrying his child.”
“I know.”
Olivia opened her mouth to keep going, then shut it because Roman was walking toward us.
She went pink so fast I would have laughed on a better night.
“You made it,” Roman said, he was tall, very tall. His eyes flicked to Olivia first, then to me, polite and warm. “Blair. Didn’t think we’d see you out after the rough month you’ve had.”
It was clear that he’d been talking to our brother about my troubles. Though, everything was out in the open thanks to paparazzi.
“Olivia kidnapped me.”
“I did,” Olivia said, then immediately looked like she regretted having a voice. “I mean. She needed space to breathe. And well you invited us and I didn’t want to-”
She stopped herself before she could give out too much information.
Roman’s lips curved, clearly fighting a smile. “Got it. Well I’m glad to see the two of you here.”
He then asked if we needed drinks and if Ethan was coming later. Olivia answered too quickly and then too slowly.
I watched her blush deepen every time he looked at her longer than a casual host should.
I tried to be distracted.
I nodded. I even smiled once.
Across the room someone laughed too loud. I shouldn’t have noticed, I should have been paying attention to their conversation.
Roman said something that made Olivia cover her face with her hand. I stood there with water I did not want and a sadness that was taking over me.

Still, he was the only one I wanted. I wished he felt the same way about me. But it was obvious from the start who his heart belonged to.
Roman glanced at me again, kinder. “You good?”
“I’m fine.”
Olivia shot me a look that said I was not, then turned back to him because she could not help it.
I let them have their moment. She deserved a night that was about her and not me. My sister has been my rock through it all. She’s protected me, stayed by my side, done everything and more a good sister would.
I wanted her to have some fun. To smile. To stop worrying about me.
I moved back toward the appetizers, feeling the need to eat more after days of consuming little. During the first few weeks, I was often sick, vomiting repeatedly. Now, I was eager to put everything in my mouth again, relieved that the nausea and throwing up had decreased.
I reflected on Olivia’s words, pondering whether she might be right. Should I finally stop hiding the truth from Grayson? Should I confess that the baby was indeed his?
