# Chapter 181: The Cowshed Standoff

Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 181 of "The Untouchable Ex Wife" — a chapter that dives deep into the tangled emotions between Leia and Xavier, where pride clashes with desire, and where love becomes a battlefield of words and wills.

The dim light of the modest countryside room cast long shadows as Xavier's eyes fluttered open. When Leia noticed he was awake, she saw something unexpected shimmering in his gaze — moisture, barely contained, as if he had been fighting back tears. She studied him for a moment, half anticipating that he might break down entirely. But Leia was never one to dwell on such fragility.

She let out a resigned sigh. "Forget it. Go and sleep in the room. I'll sleep in the cowshed."

Leia was a tough woman, forged by years of hardship. She could endure the smell of hay and the cold night air in a cowshed without complaint. But asking a pampered rich young heir like Xavier to sleep there? That felt like cruelty she couldn't bring herself to inflict.

"Thanks!" Xavier's response came with lightning speed, and he dashed into the room with an eagerness that betrayed his earlier pitiful act. All traces of his sad puppy dog eyes vanished the moment he got what he wanted.

Leia stood there, realization dawning on her like ice water. *Leia Osborne, you're a fool! He tricked you!* she cursed silently, watching his retreating figure with mounting irritation. She turned back to grab a clean blanket and pillow, preparing to make her way to the humble cowshed.

But before she could take a single step toward her humble lodging, Xavier closed the door behind her and wrapped his arms around her from behind. His embrace was warm, possessive, and utterly infuriating.

"Stop messing around," he murmured against her ear. "This bed is large enough for the both of us. If you think it's cramped, I'll just hug you and sleep."

"Xavier, let go of me. Don't be ridiculous."

"I'm serious, Leia. We have slept together before, and I promise that I'll only hug you." He raised his hand as if swearing a solemn oath.

Leia pursed her lips, her heart wrestling with the temptation before her. "Maybe you can promise not to do anything, but I can't... We've already broken up with each other, so we should keep some distance from each other. If not, things will go back to the way they were."

She knew him, perhaps better than she knew herself. And more dangerously, she knew herself. In the past, they had argued, fought, and even threatened to part ways countless times — yet somehow, they always ended up sleeping together and reconciling, as if their bodies could mend what their words had broken.

Xavier's arms tightened around her. "But I'll never get bored of you..." His voice dropped to a hoarse whisper as he closed his eyes, his fingers tracing soft patterns against her skin. He allowed his instincts to guide him, and he had to admit — while their emotional connection might not run deep, their physical chemistry was undeniable. Their bodies were compatible in ways that made him reluctant to let her go, even now.

But Leia stopped him from going further. Her voice came out quiet but firm, laced with pain she had carried for too long. "If you do this, I'll just be like all the other women you've dated. You'll just use me to sate your lust, and leave me when you get bored. It makes me feel cheap."

These words hung heavy between them — she had spoken them before, during a previous fight. She knew they had been said out of spite then, but her heart still ached every time the memory resurfaced. Every time she remembered feeling like nothing more than a plaything to him.

"All women want their men to love their souls because bodies can be replaced. Only souls are unique and can last forever!" Leia argued, tears streaming down her cheeks. She wished so desperately that Xavier could love her for who she was inside — even though she felt ordinary, boring, and unremarkable, she still wanted to be special to someone. She wanted to matter.

Xavier's response came without hesitation, cruel in its brutal honesty. "Then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I won't fall for anybody's soul. It's too much for me to handle."

His words cut deep, but he was telling the truth. A relationship that touched the soul was deep, serious, and lasting — potentially forever. And Xavier Knight had yet to envision his future that clearly. He wasn't ready to commit to something that profound.

But Leia wasn't finished. She looked at him with tearful eyes that held a razor-sharp clarity. "You're lying. You love Shirley's soul, so you're willing to sacrifice for her even after so many years. You've got no energy left in you to love another's soul because you're still in love with hers. So, you're lying when you say that you can't fall in love with my soul."

The accusation struck like a poisoned arrow, finding its mark in the dark corners of Xavier's heart. Shirley — always Shirley. The ghost of his past love haunted every moment of his present, poisoning any chance of a future.

"Whatever!" Xavier grumbled, unable to form a proper rebuttal. He turned away and decided to go to sleep, his frustration simmering beneath the surface.

*Tsk! She's so meddlesome. What got into me? Why did I follow her here? Whatever! I'll leave early tomorrow morning. I don't care how pretentious she is!*

But even as he closed his eyes, even as he tried to convince himself of his indifference, his racing thoughts betrayed him. The night stretched on, filled with unresolved tension, unspoken feelings, and two hearts that couldn't seem to move forward — or let go.

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

This chapter beautifully captures the painful limbo that Leia and Xavier find themselves in — caught between what was, what is, and what could never be. Xavier's blatant manipulation tactics are both infuriating and darkly humorous, while Leia's emotional vulnerability and sharp insight into Xavier's heart show incredible depth of character. The way she calls him out about Shirley reveals the true obstacle in their relationship, and it's both heartbreaking and empowering to see her stand her ground.

The dialogue is sharp, realistic, and resonant with the weight of their complicated history. This chapter reminds us that some wounds never fully heal, and some love remains trapped between pride and longing.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction

Based on Xavier's angry determination to leave early in the morning, we can expect him to attempt a hasty escape — but something will likely stop him. Perhaps an unexpected situation at the countryside location will force them to work together, or Shirley might make an appearance that complicates matters further. Leia's accusation about him still loving Shirley's soul will probably gnaw at Xavier's conscience throughout the night, and his conflicted emotions may lead him to a moment of vulnerability — or recklessness — in the next chapter.
