The moment Abby slipped inside the house, she could already feel that something was missing. The air was too quiet, the corners of the house too empty. She frowned, thought about it for only a second, then delivered the news as casually as if she were reporting the weather.

"I think Adie’s out. Margaret’s worried about him and has gone to look for him," Abby said, her voice honest and calm.

To anyone else, this might have sounded like a catastrophe in the making. But to Renee, whose heart was already fragile with worry, those words landed like a thunderclap. Her fingers tightened around the nearest piece of furniture, and a familiar dread began to coil inside her chest.

Abby, however, wasn't fazed at all. She knew her brother better than most. Adie wasn't a child who tripped into trouble by accident. He planned, calculated, and moved like a tiny strategist. If he had snuck out, it was because he'd thought of every possible step ahead. So while other mothers would have been running in circles, Abby was confident. But Renee wasn't as easily reassured — Adie was clever in a way that frightened her, especially now, while she was so vulnerable and helpless.

"Where did he go this time?" Renee asked, her anxious voice trembling with worry. She wanted to run, to search every corner of the city herself — but how? In her condition, she could barely see the outline of her own hands. She felt swallowed by her own limitations.

And then, through the tension, Margaret hurried in through the entrance. She was still wearing her apron, dusted with flour, her expression flustered. It seemed she had been cooking when her nephew had slipped away like a phantom.

"Ms. Ren! You're finally home! Please help me figure out where Adie has gone — I've looked everywhere and I can't find him!" Margaret's voice carried genuine panic. Renee bit her lip and steadied herself, forcing her mind to work.

"Did he say anything before he left? Has he been acting strangely recently?" Renee asked, a crisp edge of motherly urgency in her voice.

Margaret sighed, her shoulders slumping with guilt. "No, nothing of the sort. But... he thought something had happened to you. He thought you had gotten into trouble because you refused to have a video call with him, Ms. Ren. He said he wanted to save you. But I ignored him — I thought he'd been watching too many superhero cartoons..." Her voice cracked. "It's my fault. I was careless. I treated him like any other child. But he isn't. He's too smart. And I'm sure he's come up with a plan and gone out to find you."

The confession hung in the air like a heavy shadow. Renee's heart ached. Careful not to trip, she stepped toward Margaret, using her hands to feel her way along nearby counters and furniture. When she finally reached her, she placed a comforting hand on Margaret's shoulder.

"Don't blame yourself, Margaret. This is my fault. I was careless — I made everyone worry about me."

For a moment, Margaret was confused. She frowned as she carefully stared at Renee. The room was dimly lit, but something was odd. Why was Renee moving so slowly? Why was she reaching out as though she couldn't see her surroundings?

"Ms. Ren, what happened to you? Why are you wearing sunglasses indoors?"

Renee hesitated. She didn't want to tell them the truth. Not now. Not yet. Seeing her children crying, watching Margaret break down — that would only make her despair deeper. So she forced a light smile and made up a gentle lie.

"It's nothing. I hurt my eyes while I was hiking earlier. My sight is a little impaired temporarily. But I've already seen the doctor," she said, keeping her voice steady. "He said I just need to rest for a while."

"You... your sight was *impaired*?" Margaret gasped, lifting a hand to cover her mouth. Her eyes widened with shock. "What happened? How serious is it? Let me see!"

"No, please, it's fine," Renee tried to say, stepping back as gently as possible. "It's temporary blindness. I'll recover in no time. But we shouldn't touch the area around my eyes too much — the doctor has just applied medication, and we need to avoid any infection."

The word crashed down like a boulder. *Blind.*

"Blind?" Margaret's face drained of color. Her eyes widened in horror, and for a long, painful moment, she couldn't speak. This couldn't be happening. Not to Renee. Not now.

Little Abby, standing nearby, had understood everything. Her eyes welled up instantly, and tears began streaming down her tiny cheeks. Her lips quivered as she ran to her mother's side, sobbing.

"You can't see anymore, Mommy? You can't see *me* anymore?"

Renee's heart split in two. She bent down — clumsily, slowly — and gathered Abby into her arms, hugging her small shaking body. Her voice was soft and motherly, and she felt for her daughter's tear-stained face with gentle fingers.

"No, sweetheart. It's just temporary. If I rest well, my eyes will get better soon. And you — you're so cute. Of course I want to see you! Don't worry about me. I've been hurt before, and I got better, didn't I?"

Abby sniffled and stopped crying, looking up at her mother with wide, watery eyes. Margaret, however, was not so easily convinced. She had exceptional medical skills. She could see beyond Renee's soothing words and cheerful tone. Renee's condition was serious — far more serious than she was letting on.

But Margaret also saw the fear in Abby's eyes. So she swallowed her anxiety, forced a warm smile, and echoed Renee's words.

"Yeah, I don't think it's anything serious. She'll be better in a couple of days," Margaret said carefully. She looked straight at Renee, and added with quiet confidence, "And even if she doesn't get better on her own, I can cure her."

Those words settled the room like a soothing balm. Abby wiped her tears, pouted, and mumbled softly.

"Okay. I believe you. You have to get better, Mommy." Then she paused, as if remembering something. "Oh! And you don't have to worry about Adie. He carried his smartwatch with him. But if you want, Mommy, you can call him."

The room seemed to freeze. Renee's breath caught, and Margaret's eyes went wide.

"He... has his smartwatch with him?" Margaret repeated, disbelief ripe in her voice. "Why didn't you tell us earlier, Abby? Why didn't you say anything before I ran out into the streets like a madwoman?"

And in that single moment, the question that mattered most hung in the air — would they reach Adie in time before the brave little boy got himself into even more danger?

**Reader's Impressions & Star Rating:**

Well, that was another deeply emotional rollercoaster of a chapter! I felt my chest tighten watching Renee try to be strong while hiding her blindness, especially when little Abby burst into tears — my heart absolutely broke for them both. And Adie's clever, determined little plan to *save his mother* is equal parts adorable and terrifying. You have to admire that kid’s courage, but at the same time, you just want to grab him and hug him tightly. The tension is building beautifully, and Margaret’s realization about the smartwatch at the very end left me shouting, “Quick, call him!” What a compelling chapter, full of motherly love, hidden fears, and family bonds!

⭐️ Rating: 4.9 / 5 Stars

**Next Chapter Prediction:**

I have a feeling the immediate next move will be a frantic call to Adie's smartwatch — and when Renee finally gets through, she’ll discover that her clever little son has indeed followed some dangerous clues that are connected to her accident. Perhaps he has unknowingly walked right into the path of the people responsible for harming her, or maybe he’s about to uncover a shocking piece of truth that will send every adult scrambling to rescue him. Either way, I predict an emotional reunion — with a huge twist waiting along the way!
