The hospital room had become a cage of fury and despair. Stefan Hunt had been in a foul mood for days, and the nurses had paid the price. They scurried about like frightened birds, unable to calm the tempestuous man who lay trapped in his bed, his pride wounded and his heart in ruins. Just moments before, they had pleaded with Renee Everheart to handle him carefully, warning her that Mr. Hunt had grown increasingly irritable and difficult.

But Renee was not afraid.

She walked through the spacious, sunlit garden that surrounded the private ward, her footsteps measured and calm. When she reached the door to Stefan's room, she pushed it open gently—only for an ornament to whistle past her head and crash against the wall behind her.

"Don't you understand? I asked you to get lost. Stop bothering me!" Stefan screamed, his pale face contorted with rage as he leaned against the bed.

Renee had never seen him lose control like this. Another person might have flinched, might have retreated. But her heart ached instead. This was not anger—this was a man drowning in despair, lashing out because he had nothing else left.

"You broke such a lovely ornament... What a waste!" she murmured softly, bending down to pick up the shattered pieces. She tossed them into the dustbin, then walked over to Stefan and gently placed her hand over his.

That simple touch was enough. The fire in him dimmed, and he stilled.

"Er... Are you okay?" Stefan asked awkwardly, swallowing hard. His heart skipped a beat.

Stefan had always been a man of strict propriety. Even with Seraphina, the person he trusted most, he disliked being touched on the face or hair. Female nurses who fussed over him were met with cold rejection. But with Renee, everything was different. Her touch did not unsettle him—it anchored him.

"Is that so? Why do I feel you like my touch? Be good... There, there." Renee's lips curved into a cheeky smile as she rubbed his hair and playfully pinched his cheeks, like someone daring to provoke a sleeping beast.

She expected him to be outraged. Instead, Stefan spoke calmly, almost softly: "It's very strange, but you're the only exception."

Renee was speechless. Her pulse fluttered wildly beneath her composed mask.

Then Stefan did something that left her breathless. He lifted his chin and declared with quiet arrogance: "The only person who takes care of me has to be you."

Amazement dawned on her, and she couldn't speak for a long moment.

"What's wrong? Are you unwilling?" he asked, sensing her hesitation.

"No, I'm just curious. Did you recall something?" Renee whispered, half-afraid. She could feel him drawing closer and closer to her, and she wondered—could it be that he remembered her? If not, then why did she matter so much to him?

"Should I recall anything?" Stefan asked in return.

After a brief silence, Renee chuckled bitterly. "I'd rather you don't remember me... I'm not a good person."

Stefan did not press her. He knew, deep down, that she would not reveal the truth just because he asked. If he wanted answers, he would have to find them himself—whether he was ready for them or not.

Then, suddenly, he made a surprising request. "Help me shave my beard."

Stefan was a man who cared deeply about his appearance. He always wanted to look sharp and composed. Rarely had he allowed himself to become so unkempt—those past few days, he hadn't washed his face or shaved, as if he were an artist who had lost all passion. But the moment he heard Renee's voice, color returned to his world.

"You... You want me to shave your beard for you?" Renee scratched her head awkwardly. She let out an embarrassed laugh. "Well, it's rather shameful for me to admit it, but I did a lot of bad things and once challenged a martial arts studio. I even carried an AK-47. Some might call me manly, but I've never shaved a beard before."

"Is it inconvenient for you?" Stefan turned toward her, unable to see her face, yet feeling her dilemma clearly.

"No, it's not, but... I've never shaved a beard. I'm afraid I might not do a good job."

"It's fine. I don't care how it turns out."

"Hah, is that so? You said it yourself." Renee rubbed her hands eagerly and chuckled wickedly like a villain. She disappeared into the washroom and returned with a razor—the most basic kind, with nothing but a bare blade.

"Come on, I'm ready." She raised the razor eagerly.

"I'm ready too." Stefan closed his eyes and waited, looking like a man about to offer his life for a heroic cause.

"Hmm..." As Renee leaned closer to him, she found herself completely mesmerized by his handsome face. In her eyes, that face deserved endless praise—sharp features, proud brow, the powerful curve of his jaw. And now, she was close enough to trace every line, to breathe the same air as him.

But could she finish this task without her heart betraying her? And what would happen when the blade touched his skin, and the past she tried so hard to bury came rushing back?

### Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

Oh, this chapter was such a beautiful mix of tenderness and tension! I loved how the powerful Stefan Hunt—who had everyone tiptoeing around him—became completely docile under Renee's gentle touch. The moment he told her she was "the only exception" sent shivers down my spine. There's so much unspoken history between them, and the longing hidden in Renee's bitter words broke my heart. The shaving scene was intimate and quietly romantic, but also dangerous—because secrets are about to crack wide open. I also love that Stefan is not passively accepting her distance; he's already determined to find the truth himself. This story just keeps getting better!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.9 / 5 Stars

### Next Chapter Prediction

The next chapter will likely bring an explosive turning point. While Renee is busy shaving Stefan, something is bound to happen—perhaps her trembling hand betrays her, or he reaches out and touches a familiar scar, a strand of hair, or her face, suddenly recognizing her identity. The atmosphere between them is already charged with electric intimacy, and I predict that a moment of near-recognition will leave Stefan's mind racing. Meanwhile, someone may walk in at the worst possible time—perhaps Seraphina or a jealous rival—forcing Renee to retreat just as the truth begins to Surface. Will Stefan finally remember who she is? We are on the edge of our seats!
