So sit back, take a deep breath, and let’s step into the story together.

When Alessandro finally returned to the room, the first thing he saw was April standing alone on the balcony. The night wind gently moved her hair as she stared up at the starry sky, searching for something only she could name. There was something fragile in her posture—a quiet longing, a wish that the horrors of yesterday would dissolve like mist.

He walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. She didn’t startle. She seemed to have known he would come.

“What are you looking at?” he asked softly.

“The stars look beautiful tonight,” she murmured. “There is so much peace, so much calm. Everything that happened yesterday seems like it was just a nightmare. Or maybe… that’s what I wish for.”

“You’re right,” he replied, his voice low and honest. “And you’re not the only one. I too wish it was all a nightmare—that I could open my eyes and wake up with you in my arms. But that won’t happen. This is our reality, whether we like it or not.”

April leaned her head back, resting it against his shoulder, letting his warmth anchor her. “Luckily I have you,” she said softly. “That makes my reality not so bad.”

Alessandro pressed a tender kiss to her cheek. “Without a doubt, everything is better with you.”

For a while, they stayed like that, wrapped in each other beneath the vast, watching heavens. Then, with a hesitant breath, April asked the question that had been sitting heavy in her chest. “How are the wounded?”

“They’re fine. Better now,” Alessandro said. “The wizards have come to help.”

“Were there many deaths?”

His silence was answer enough. “Yes,” he admitted at last. “Although most of them were guards. Many fell during the fight.”

April’s eyes dimmed. “If I had arrived earlier…”

“No,” he interrupted gently. “You did everything you could, Aby. In a war, there are always wounded. Even if we wanted to, we can’t save everyone.”

“I know,” she whispered. “But I still feel helpless not being able to help them.”

“I understand you,” he said, tightening his embrace. “I feel the same way, too. But there are things that can’t be avoided.”

She nodded, and they let the silence heal them a little. They remained on the balcony a while longer, drinking in the night’s calm, before finally retreating to sleep.

But sleep did not bring rest for April. That night, Sophia came to her again.

In the past, whenever her mother appeared in her dreams, they were always surrounded by beautiful gardens and endless green meadows. But not this time. This time, April stood alone in a world of absolute darkness. The only light came from the two of them—two souls glowing against the void.

“Why is there only darkness?” April asked, her voice trembling.

Sophia’s gaze was full of sorrow. “This is the future that awaits us if we do not defeat the darkness. A darkness without end.”

April’s jaw tightened. “We will not let the darkness win. I will not allow it.”

Sophia gently took her daughter’s hand, her touch warm despite the cold shadows. “To do that, your power must fully awaken. You must become stronger, my girl.”

“I know,” April said desperately, “but how do I do it?”

Sophia caressed her daughter’s cheek, looking at her with a mother’s sweet, unwavering love. “When darkness rises and light is threatened, your power will awaken.”

“And what does that mean? I don’t understand.”

Sophia’s smile was soft, mysterious, and painfully tender. “When the time comes, you will understand.”

And then the dream began to fade, leaving April with nothing but the echo of those words shimmering in the dark.

Meanwhile, far away, Maya’s body ached with every step. She was thirsty, exhausted, and completely unaccustomed to this harsh reality. She hadn’t had a good night ever since she’d been forced to sleep on the cold ground. That day, they had risen before the sun and walked without mercy, stopping only once to eat something small and hurried.

Cassian watched Maya fall behind, his chest tightening with concern. He called out to the two elves striding ahead. “Let’s stop and rest for a moment. She’s tired. She can’t keep up with them.”

Ethan answered without slowing. “Just a moment. The entrance to the fairy land is near.”

Maya slumped onto the trunk of an upside-down tree, her legs burning. Cassian knelt beside her, offering his canteen. “Here, baby.”

She blinked. “It’s your water.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’m better than you,” he said, his voice warm with care.

Maya took the canteen and drank long and deep. The cool water slid down her parched throat, and she felt like she was coming back to life. Her throat had been so dry, she thought she might die of thirst. “Thanks. Any more and I would have died.”

“I know.”

Cassian began to massage her legs, and Maya jumped slightly. “What are you doing?”

“You’re not used to walking,” he said. “Your legs must be sore.”

“I had never walked so much in my life. Since I never had the need to do so,” she admitted with a tired laugh. “I used teleportation scrolls. It’s more practical.”

“Well, I am the prince,” he teased, “but sometimes it seems like it’s the other way around.”

Maya gave him a small smile. “I guess you’re right. Although I won’t deny that I have been a spoiled daughter by my father.”

“And by your mother?”

Her expression dimmed. “I don’t know. I don’t remember her. She died when I was very young. I think that’s why my father was softer with me. Since then, I have been the light of his eyes. I suppose it will be hard for him when I’m gone.”

“When you’re no longer here?” Cassian asked, puzzled.

“Children leave,” Maya said quietly. “It is the law of life. Even if I don’t want to, there will be a day when I will not return with him.”

Before the moment could grow too heavy, Dantriel’s voice cut through the air. “It’s time to go.”

Cassian held out his hand and helped Maya to her feet. She grimaced and groaned. “If I had known I would have to walk so much, I wouldn’t have come.”

“I promise your effort will be well rewarded,” Cassian said softly. “You can ask for whatever you want.”

A small sparkle returned to Maya’s eyes. “Then I’ll think about what to order.”

They walked on for several more hours. Maya leaned against Cassian, her legs so heavy that each step felt like dragging stone. Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. “Hey… how much longer do you think we’ll have to walk?”

Ethan answered without turning. “Nothing. We’ve already arrived.”

He pushed aside some branches, revealing the mouth of a cave. The entrance was narrow and dark, and Maya couldn’t hide her disappointment. “What a disappointment. I thought it would be more impressive.”

Ethan smiled faintly. “This is just the entrance. The land of fairies is a beautiful place.”

Dantriel added darkly, “But also very dangerous. So don’t go away from us. Don’t touch anything. And don’t accept anything to eat or drink.”

“Why not?” Cassian asked.

Dantriel’s voice grew heavier. “Because you may not come back if you do. I’ve said it before: the land of fairies is a beautiful place, full of light and color, with happy music and sweet, delicious food. But time passes there in different ways. What may seem like a day to you there may be weeks, months, or even years.”

Ethan touched the necklace around his neck. “These necklaces will help us get back. So never take them off—or you may never come back at all.”

Dantriel moved forward first, stepping into the cave. Just before he vanished into the darkness, his voice echoed back. “Come on. There’s no time to waste.”

Maya and Cassian followed. Inside, they could see nothing at all. They kept one hand against the cold stone wall, guiding themselves carefully, praying not to stumble. Then, after what felt like an eternity, a blue light began to glow far ahead at the back of the cave.

They called out to Ethan, but it was Dantriel who answered. “Are we going in the right direction?” Maya asked.

“Yes,” Dantriel replied. “The land of fairies is on the other side. So let’s not waste any more time.”

He stepped into the ring of light and disappeared.

Cassian took Maya’s hand. She was trembling slightly. He squeezed it gently. “Don’t be afraid. I am with you.”

And together, they stepped forward into the unknown.

**Reader’s Impressions & Star Rating**

What a beautifully layered chapter! We get quiet tenderness, deep shadows of prophecy, and a journey that feels like crossing into a fairy tale—one with teeth. April’s dream with Sophia is haunting and mysterious, and the warning about the fairy realm sets my heart racing. Maya and Cassian’s dynamic is adorable yet bittersweet, and I love the growing bond between them. The pacing is a little slower, but it’s the kind of calm that makes the danger ahead feel even more real. A truly immersive chapter.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

**Next Chapter Prediction**

I predict that Maya and Cassian will enter the fairy land and be dazzled by its beauty—but also quickly face its tests. The fairies may not be as welcoming as they seem, and Maya might be tempted by something she can’t resist. Meanwhile, April’s power is about to face its first true awakening, possibly triggered by a new threat that emerges from the darkness. The next chapter could bring the beginning of the storm.
