# Chapter 37: The Protection of the Light

Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 37 of "Forgotten Wife: Let the Traitors Kneel Down" — a breathtaking chapter of war, healing, and the quiet power of a desperate queen. In this chapter, the battlefield is soaked in blood, the air trembles with explosions, and a woman who is neither a goddess nor a fool tries to do what no one believes is possible: save the dying, bless the doomed, and protect the man she loves. Let us step into the tent where wounded soldiers lie, and beyond it, into a war that will decide everything.

The chapter opens in the middle of chaos. April, the woman known as Amara, moves among the wounded soldiers like a storm of determination. She stops before the most gravely injured man she has ever seen — his arm is nearly severed, a grotesque, ugly wound that makes Lionel, her companion, shake his head in despair. "We must amputate the arm," he says with cold certainty. "There is no magician, no doctor who can cure such a wound." But April refuses to accept that fate. She asks for bandages, believing it may still be possible to save his arm.

Lionel sighs. "Amara, you are not a god. We are magicians. There are things we cannot do, no matter how much we wish for it."

"I know," she replies, her voice gentle but unyielding. "But let me try."

Perhaps it is foolish. Perhaps it is hopeless. But in the middle of a brutal war, hope is the only weapon that costs nothing. Lionel helps her rejoin the soldier's arm, and the man lets out a heartbreaking cry before fainting from the unbearable pain. April asks Lionel to gather more bandages. The moment he leaves, she places her hands over the wounded soldier and lets her healing light flow into him. Slowly, almost miraculously, color returns to his pale face. His expression relaxes. He is going to recover.

She whispers to his unconscious form, "You're going to recover."

April continues her silent work, moving from one wounded soldier to another. These are men with horrible injuries, men on the edge of death. If she had not been there, most of them would have died. When Lionel returns with two more magicians, they help her bind wounds and rejoin nearly amputated limbs at her request. Though the other magicians believe her efforts are useless, none of them dare to say a word.

Then, in the distance, an explosion thunders across the battlefield. April startles. "What was that?"

Lionel explains that the battle has begun. The soldiers are using exploding magic stones to keep the monsters away from the barrier, allowing the army to move out without the creatures slipping in. The explosions don't kill the monsters, but they scatter them for a few minutes — just enough time for the soldiers to push forward.

April's heart tightens. She thinks of Alessandro, her husband, the man who has claimed her heart despite all the pain and betrayal that once surrounded their marriage. She knows he is strong, but fear refuses to leave her. She slaps her own cheeks, trying to force herself to focus on the wounded in front of her. Lionel stares at her. "Why are you hitting yourself?" "I just wanted to focus," she says. "You're crazy," he replies.

When she finally finishes treating the last wounded man, April steps out of the tent. Her gaze drifts toward the invisible barrier, beyond it, the battlefield stretches out in all its horror. Even from a distance, she can see the monsters, the dead lying beneath their feet. The sight reminds her of the prophecy her mother once spoke of long ago. How had her mother known this would happen? The question lodges itself in her mind like a splinter.

Sirius appears beside her, noticing how distracted she is. "Is something wrong?"

April shakes her head. "No. I'd better go check on the wounded I treated yesterday."

"They're fine," Sirius says. "They've fully recovered. In fact, they joined the battlefield today."

April's eyes return to the distant fight. "I hope they survive."

"That arises from the luck of each of them," he replies, his voice carrying the weariness of someone who has seen too many wars.

April whispers, almost to herself, "Maybe I shouldn't have healed their wounds completely. Then they wouldn't have had to return to the battlefield."

Sirius looks at her with an expression she cannot quite read. "Do you know why we magicians stay behind the barrier?"

April admits she has wondered about this many times. Magicians are skilled in attack magic, and some are excellent warriors, yet they remain hidden behind the protective wall. Why? Sirius explains the truth: the magicians are the last barrier. If the soldiers fail, the magicians must protect the city and its civilians. Their duty is to care for the wounded, but they also know that if the entire army falls, only the magicians will remain. And there are so few of them. The only thing they can do is pour all their magic into reinforcing the city, creating an impenetrable barrier, emptying themselves completely, dying so that others may live. That is why, Sirius says, if April can heal someone, she must not do it halfway. She must heal them completely and send them back to the battlefield. Because if everyone hides behind the barrier, who will fight the enemy?

His words hit April like a cold wave. She apologizes. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."

"You didn't know," Sirius says gently. "But I hope that now you do know, you will use your power to help us win this war."

"I'm already here," she says.

"No, actually, you're here for Alessandro," Sirius corrects her. "But I hope you don't only want to save him. Think also of the people who live in these lands. Fight for them too. Remember that you are the queen of Cosset, and it is your obligation as a queen to fight for them, even if you don't know them."

He walks toward the barrier, places his hand upon it, and a bright light shines, reinforcing the shield. As he passes April again, he murmurs, "Think about what I told you."

April returns to the tent, and the magicians inside stare at her in amazement. "Did something happen?" one asks. "All the wounded seem to be getting better. What did you do to them?"

"Nothing special," April says. "I just used healing magic and treated their wounds just like you."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Now let's leave the talk. There are many things to do."

The battle rages all day. At dusk, the sound of a horn splits the air — the signal for the soldiers to return. Some magicians rush to the barrier and clear the entrance for the retreating army. April runs toward the field, her eyes desperately searching for Alessandro. When she finally sees him, she feels as if she can breathe again. He looks exhausted, his armor stained with a dark liquid, but he does not appear hurt.

Lionel grabs her arm, stopping her from running to him. "Amara, what are you doing? There are too many wounded. Don't distract yourself."

"Yes. I'm sorry."

And so April spends the entire night tending to the wounded. She does not see Alessandro, not once, even though they are in the same place. Her heart aches with the cruel irony of being so close to the man she loves, yet unable to touch him. She walks to a nearby well to fetch water, and suddenly, she hears his voice behind her.

"Aby."

She turns instantly, a smile blooming on her face. "Lesan."

Alessandro approaches her. Dark circles shadow his eyes, and he asks, "Have you not slept?"

"There were too many wounded."

"Don't overexert yourself."

"Don't worry. I'll rest later."

Alessandro is still wearing his armor. April places her hand on it, feeling the cold metal beneath her fingers. "Come back safely."

"Promise."

Then she decides to give him something more. She closes her eyes and pours her magic into his armor, a warm light enveloping Alessandro completely. He shivers as the blessing settles around him. "I have blessed your armor," April says. "Or at least, that's what it claims to be. I don't know if it works, though I pray that it does. I pray that no monster can touch you."

"I will test it in a while," he says softly. "And I will tell you at night."

Alessandro leans forward, presses a kiss to her forehead, and whispers, "Take care of yourself while I'm gone."

"I'll be fine. I'm behind the barrier."

"I know. And that's why I don't give up, and why I fought with all my strength."

April remembers Sirius's words from the day before. It was true, then. The magicians are a last resort. If the soldiers fail, the wizards must sacrifice themselves to keep the city safe. And April is not exempt from that destiny.

Alessandro gives her a soft kiss on the lips. "See you soon, my love."

As he walks away, April feels her heart tighten painfully in her chest. She has never been used to watching him leave toward death and blood — toward the battlefield.

Alessandro meets his army, and Cassian stands in the front row beside him. "Have you seen Aby?" "Yes." "How is she?" "All things considered, fine."

Cassian can sense his brother's anxiety. April being in that place must be weighing on Alessandro's mind. "I'm really surprised you didn't tie her up and send her somewhere safe."

"It's not that I haven't thought about it," Alessandro admits. "But she would be furious if I did that. I don't want my wife to end up hating me."

Cassian smirks. "Yes, she is like that."

Alessandro unsheathes his sword and stands at the ready. The soldiers imitate him. Explosions echo behind the barrier, and when the path is finally clear, the barrier opens. They join the battle. Swords clash against the monsters on the front line. Alessandro swings his sword, cutting down everything that stands in his way. Every day, they kill countless monsters and enemy soldiers, yet their numbers never seem to diminish. He wonders if this war will ever truly end.

Lost in thought, Alessandro leaves his right flank exposed. A dark creature with long, deadly tentacles lunges at him, aiming to pierce his side. But the moment the tentacle touches his armor, it disintegrates into nothing. April's blessing had worked. The monsters born of darkness cannot touch him while the light of her love protects him. They turn to dust at the merest contact.

This chapter is a breathtaking testament to the power of love and sacrifice. April's determination to save every life she can, even when all hope seems lost, is both heartbreaking and inspiring. The conversation with Sirius carries real weight, reminding April — and us — that a queen's duty goes far beyond the man she loves. And the final image of Alessandro standing in battle, protected by April's blessing, fills the heart with both hope and dread. War is far from over, and every kiss, every promise, feels like a farewell.

**Next Chapter Prediction:**

Now that Alessandro has witnessed the incredible power of April's blessing — how it can disintegrate the monsters of darkness on contact — the next chapter will likely bring this secret weapon into greater focus. But such a light cannot stay hidden for long. Perhaps the enemy will notice that something strange is protecting the general, or perhaps a new threat will emerge that forces April to step beyond the barrier and into the battlefield herself. The prophecy her mother spoke of may soon reveal itself more fully, and April may have to choose between staying safe behind the wall or walking into the fire to save her people — and the man she loves.
