Mark

The soft glow of the evening settled over the kitchen as Mark finished wiping down the

counters, glancing over his shoulder to where Emma stood, drying the last of the dishes. The

kids were finally asle ep, leaving just the two of them. Mark leaned against the counter,

watching her, a familiar pull tightening in his chest as he took her in. She caught him looking

and raised an eyebrow, a small smile tugging at her lips.

“What?” she asked, her voice light, teasing, as she set the dish towel aside.

He crossed the room slowly, feeling an urgency and tenderness he could barely contain. He

reached out, his fingers grazing her waist, pulling her close, and she let out a soft laugh, her

hands instinctively coming to rest on his chest. Her warmth se eped into him, steadying him,

as he looked down at her, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“Can’t a man look at his beautiful wife?” he murmured, his voice low as he brushed a strand

of hair away from her face, his fingertips lingering just a little longer than necessary.

She tilted her head, her smile softening, her eyes searching his. “D epends on what he’s

thinking.”

Mark leaned in, his lips brushing against her cheek, moving slowly, letting her feel the

warmth of his breath as he kissed a gentle line down to the curve of her jaw. He felt her relax

into him, her body melting against his as his hands moved around her waist, pulling her flush

against him. She smelled like lavender soap, and the scent sent a wave of warmth through

him, filling him with memories of all the quiet, intimate moments they’d shared over the

years.

“What do you think I’m thinking?” he whispered, his voice just a murmur against her ear,

feeling the way her breath hitched, her fingers tightening on his shirt.

She leaned back slightly, her gaze meeting his, the unspoken desire between them crackling

like a spark. “Show me.”

He didn’t need any more encouragement. He pulled her by the hand, walking her through the

dimly lit hallway and into their bedroom. He let himself take in every detail of her—her gaze

softened, her cheeks flushed, the way she looked at him, unwavering trust and warmth that

grounded him completely. This woman, his wife, his everything, had forgiven him, had

chosen him, and every touch, every kiss, was a promise to never take that for granted again.

He brushed his lips over hers, de epening the kiss slowly, savoring the feel of her, the quiet

moans that es caped her as his hands traced her skin. They moved in sync, a rhythm they’d

found together over the years, but tonight, there was something de eper, something unspoken

and sacred as he poured every ounce of his love into each touch, each whispered word. His

hands traced the familiar lines of her body, and he could feel her responding, the way she

always did, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer, grounding him.

They lay together afterward, their breaths mingling, her head resting on his chest as he

stroked her hair, letting the moment sink in, feeling the weight and wonder of it settle over

him. This was his sanctuary, his second chance, the life he’d nearly lost but was now

determined to honor with everything he had.

Mark tightened his arm around her, pressing a kiss to her forehead, his voice a soft whisper in

the quiet room. “I love you, Emma.”

She looked up at him, her fingers tracing a gentle line along his jaw. “I know,” she whispered

back, a soft smile in her eyes as she settled back

against him, her hand resting over his heart.

And as they lay there, wrapped in each other’s arms, he knew that he didn’t deserve this. He

didn’t deserve this second chance, he didn’t deserve this goddess. But this was everything he’d

ever wanted, and he would spend his life proving to Emma that he would never let her down

again.
