Chapter 54
~BLAIR
An hour after Grayson left the house, men-in work shirts appeared with a new bed.

I stood in the hallway and watched them carry the frame upstairs in pieces, then the mattress, then the headboard, my disbelief climbing with every trip. He’d gotten a replacement pretty quickly.
They worked efficiently, like this was a normal service call and not the aftermath of me destroying furniture.
By the time they finished making the bed with clean sheets and left, the master bedroom looked complete again-like the absence had never happened.
I wouldn’t have exactly called what happened earlier a fight. I had been pissed. I just hadn’t given him the satisfaction of a full on argument.
Letting Grayson see how much seeing Lily in our bed affected me would have been the same as handing him proof that I had feelings for him. I refused to do that. Not when everything still pointed toward an ending where he chose someone else. Where he chose her. His childhood sweetheart.
He appeared back in the house, his expression not giving much away. I tried to stay calm but it was difficult especially when he always looked so damn hot. My heart was already racing and my body was doing these weird things.
“You can return to our room now,” he said.
Our room.
It made my heart skip against my will. I hated the reaction. I hated that two words from him could rearrange my feelings when I was still sick from the images Lily had shown me.
Seeing them together like that…all intimate, it was not a feeling I ever wanted to experience again.
“I’m not going in there,” I said. “Not after what you did with her in that room.”
Grayson’s jaw tightened. “Blair-”
“No.” I folded my arms. “I find it funny, actually. You lose your mind over me having a public lunch with Chase. But somehow you don’t see a problem with having sex with another woman while we’re married and letting me walk in on her sprawled across our bed almost completely naked. Fascinating really.”
He sighed, and rubbed a hand over his face. “Lily lied.”
I stared at him. Confused at first.
Lily lied? About what exactly?
“I went straight to the airport,” he continued, eyes locked on mine. “I did not stop to see her. I did not have sex with her. Whatever she told you, whatever photos she showed you-old or staged, nothing happened yesterday. Not in that bed. Not anywhere else in this house.”
I didn’t know if I could believe him. Wanting to believe him was already dangerous enough. Lily had been convincing.
The pictures had looked real and recent enough for me to believe them. And still some traitorous part of me grabbed onto his words like a rope.
“You’re asking me to ignore what I saw,” I said.
“I’m asking you to believe me.” His gaze didn’t waver. “I know what I did and didn’t do. I didn’t touch her.”
When I still didn’t move, something in his expression snapped from patient to quite the opposite.
“This is ridiculous.”
Before I could process the shift, his hands were behind me. A startled sound left my throat as Grayson

lifted me off the ground like I weighed nothing, one arm under my knees, the other around my back.
My eyes went wide.
“Put me down-”

He didn’t. He carried me down the hall, into the master bedroom, and threw me onto the new bed like I weighed nothing.
The sheets were cool. He stayed leaning over me, close enough that his breath touched my face when he spoke.
‘Nothing happened,” he whispered. “And nothing is going to happen in the future. So you can relax.”
Nothing is going to happen?
Then he straightened and walked out, leaving the door open and my thoughts in complete disorder.
sat on the new bed staring at the empty doorway, pulse racing in my ears.
Nothing happened? Nothing? That couldn’t be right. I saw the pictures of them myself. But why would he try ying to me about it? Why would he even insist that I return to the room?
And what did he mean by nothing is going to happen in the future?
Nothing with Lily? Nothing that would hurt me? Or nothing between him and me.
inwardly groaned. I wanted to follow him and ask at least one of these questions.
pulled my knees up and pressed my forehead against them. Surely he was going to explain more.
He had replaced the bed in an hour.
He had carried me back into a room he called ours.
He had looked me in the eye and said things I still didn’t understand.
And then he had chosen to walk right back out of the room? Like nothing?
