Chapter 88
-BLAIR-
:
I didn’t want to attend this event, feeling out of place among strangers and feeling the awkward tension in the air. Yet, here I was, reluctantly standing in the crowded hall. Every turn I took, I was faced with the sight of Grayson, effortlessly charming, arm in arm with his childhood sweetheart, their laughter echoing through the room and making my feelings of exclusion even sharper.
It hurt.
Seeing Grayson so normal with Lily, like nothing had ever happened between us. He leaned in and kissed her in front of everyone and my heart took the hit.
How could he do this to me? I watched in shock as he moved his mouth against hers, actually kissing her with a tenderness that contradicted the chaos inside me. This wasn’t a dream or a nightmare; it was painfully real. I stood frozen, unable to look away, as it unfolded right in front of my eyes. I was pregnant with his child, carrying our future, and he was making out with Lily as if our marriage meant nothing to him-no respect,
no remorse.
Was everything really just a lie to him? A game?
Now I was pregnant with his child while he paraded his childhood sweetheart around a room with people all connected to my family’s company.
Monroe Athletics had called the night a partnership reception. Donors. Sponsors. I had not wanted to come. My father had not asked so much as informed me that a Monroe seat would not sit empty while the press wrote that the family was hiding. So I put on a dress that hid what there was not yet much to hide, let Olivia promise she would stay close, and walked into a ballroom that immediately found the one sight I could not stand.
Grayson.
Lily on his arm.
Why would he bring her here? He must have known I would be present. Why would he hurt me like that?
His hand was at her waist like it belonged there. Her face tipped up to him. A kiss that was not deep, not long –just public enough. Just enough to hurt me.
Olivia whispered my name.
“Mmm?” I asked her.
“Stop staring at them.” She told me. “Don’t let Lily enjoy this. She’s clearly putting on a show. Grayson doesn’t look happy in the least.”
I shrugged, “I’m not so sure about that. He’s kissing her right now.”
Olivia rolled her eyes, “and he’s hating it. Maybe he’s trying to make you jealous.”

“I’m sure that’s not it.” I sighed.
“He’s surely going to lose it when he learns that you’re carrying his baby.” She pointed out.
“Shh.”

“What?” she asked. “You’re going to have to tell him eventually. Why not do it now? I would love to see the expression on both of their faces.”
“I need a moment.” I tell her as I walked towards the drink section.
“Excuse me,” I heard Lily’s voice behind me. “That’s mine.”
I spun around to face her. “What?”
She smiled, “Grayson’s mine. I told you that from the start. Now look at you. All depressed. He was never going to leave me for you. All the money in the world was not going to change that.”
I stiffened.
“Did he tell you that?” I asked her with a forced smile. “Because he seemed to enjoy all those nights we shared together.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Don’t lie to me. Grayson would never sleep with someone like you.”
Tell that to his baby inside me.
I smiled, letting her think whatever she wanted with that as I walked away.
“He’s-”
I was already moving. I didn’t wait to hear what she wanted to say.
I locked myself in the bathroom and pressed my forehead to the door.
I couldn’t stop crying now that I was away from everyone else. Seeing him with her, combined with these pregnancy hormones, was really messing with my emotions.
I hated him for kissing her knowing I was in the same room. I hated myself for still wanting him.
When I could finally stand without shaking, I wiped my face, opened the door, and walked out.
I bounced straight into someone. I stiffened when I realized who it was from his scent alone.
Grayson’s hands came up on instinct, catching my elbows so I would not hit the wall. Then he saw my face.
The tears were still on my cheeks.
He froze. I saw the moment he realized I’d been crying. The horror on his face.
“What’s wrong?”

The question was so simple it made me angry.
“Do not act like you care. It’s none of your business.”
His frown cut in immediately. “Blair. What’s wrong?”

“Leave me alone.” I tried to step around him. The hallway was too narrow. He did not grab me again, but he did not move either.
“Is this part of the pregnancy hormones?”
I froze.
Did he really just mention pregnancy hormones? For a moment, I couldn’t even move. I was in too much
shock.
For a second I thought I had misheard him.
Pregnancy. Hormones.
“What did you just say?”
He looked at me more carefully now, the concern from the tears mixed with something else. “You heard me.”
For a second all I could do was just stare. “How do you know?”
He did not answer right away. That silence was worse than him asking different questions about the pregnancy.
Who could have told him? There was only one other person besides Olivia who knew about it.
Chase.
That idiot. Did he really tell Grayson? How could he do that? I wanted to be the first person to break the news to him. I never expected he would be the first one to bring it up.
“How do you know?” I repeated, louder.
Grayson’s jaw tightened. “Does it matter?”
“Yes.” My voice broke and I hated that. “Yes, it matters. You were just parading Lily around, kissing her even though I was in the same room. I understand why it wouldn’t matter to you, but it does to me.”
He stared at my face, and for one second I saw a glimpse of the man from that night, during the blackout. The one I’d allowed to completely ruin me.
Then the cold glare came back.
Why did he seem so angry with me? He had this look of betrayal on his face.
“I know,” he said. “That’s enough.”

He knew I was pregnant. But from his words, he did not know that he was the father. Chase couldn’t tell for sure, maybe that’s why he did not tell him who the father was.
Now his reaction made sense.
He did not know it was his.
I took a step back.
“Okay,” I whispered. “Go back to Lily. The woman you actually love.”
He winced at my tone.
This time, when I moved past him, he let me go.
I walked on shaky legs toward the side exit Olivia had pointed out earlier, the secret was no longer only mine.
Grayson knew.
He knew.
