Enzo turned around just in time to see his sister, Cira, being swallowed whole by the suffocating darkness. His heart lurched — not out of love, of course, but out of instinct. He reached out, trying to grab her, trying to pull her back from the abyss, but the shadows were faster. They coiled around her like living chains, dragging her deeper and deeper until she vanished completely from sight.
Inside that endless black void, Cira experienced a terror she had never known. She screamed. She kicked. She clawed at the nothingness around her. But her body refused to obey her. It was as if every muscle, every nerve, every breath belonged to something else now. For a moment, she wondered if this was death — cold, silent, and absolute.
But then, a voice cut through the darkness. Deep. Ice-cold. It spoke directly into her mind, bypassing her ears entirely.
*Cira, let me in.*
Cira froze. She tried to see who was speaking, but there was nothing — only blackness stretching in every direction.
"Who are you?" she demanded, her voice trembling despite her attempt at bravery. "Show yourself."
*I cannot show myself,* the voice answered smoothly. *I have no physical body. I need you to let me in.*
"Let you in?"
*Yes. Let me enter you. I need a vessel — a living body. In exchange, I will give you power beyond your wildest dreams.*
Cira’s mind raced. "And what if I refuse?"
*If you refuse, you will remain weak. You will never be a queen. You will always live under the shadow of your father and your brother.*
That struck a nerve. It always had. Cira had spent her entire life being overlooked, being pushed aside, being told she was not enough. Her father had never once considered her a true heir. First, there was April — the golden princess, the favorite. And when April was disposed of, Enzo had taken her place. Never Cira. Never the youngest. Never the one who tried so desperately to prove herself.
"Before I give my answer," Cira said slowly, "tell me what you are."
*A princess of Hades,* the voice purred. *I am strong. I am powerful. If you let me in, you will become just like me.*
"And what happens to me when I let you in?"
*You will be powerful. That is what you want, is it not?*
"It sounds tempting," she admitted. "But what is the price?"
*A small price compared to what I will give you. You will only let me stay inside you and take care of a few matters. You will barely even notice I am there.*
Cira considered the offer. The darkness pressed against her, cold and hungry. The voice waited, patient and persuasive. She thought of her father’s dismissive gaze. She thought of Enzo, who had always stood in her way. She thought of the throne, the crown, the respect she had been denied her whole life.
And she made her choice.
"Fine," she said. "I'll let you in."
*Good answer,* the voice purred, slithering with satisfaction. *I assure you, no one will be able to stand against you. You will have everything you have always wanted.*
"Now what do I do?"
*Just stop fighting. Let the darkness invade you completely.*
And so Cira did. She stopped resisting. She let the shadows rush into her, flooding every corner of her being. She became one with the darkness. And as the power surged through her veins, she felt something she had never felt before — strength. Real, absolute, intoxicating strength.
Meanwhile, Enzo had retreated to the top of the stairs, his back pressed against the wall. He stared into the darkness below, his own fire flickering nervously around his hands. He had never loved his sister. Truth be told, he had hated her — and the feeling had been entirely mutual. She was annoying, scheming, and more than once she had tried to have him killed. So why did he feel so uneasy now?
The darkness began to fade. And in the place where Cira had disappeared, a red flame appeared — strange and unnatural, as if fire and shadow had merged into one. Enzo raised his hand, sending a flicker of his own fire forward to illuminate the scene. And there, standing in the middle of that eerie blaze, was his sister.
Cira rolled her shoulders and tilted her head as if adjusting to a new body. When she spoke, her voice was wrong — layered, doubled, carrying a strange harmonic underneath.
"I have never been better," she said.
Enzo felt a chill crawl down his spine. She looked like his sister, but something in her eyes, in her posture, in the air around her — it was not her.
"You are not my sister," he said, taking a step back. "Who are you?"
Cira laughed. It was a cold, knowing laugh. "I am the same, only... rectified. Now I am better."

Far away from that darkness, Cassian woke with a jolt, his heart pounding. The first thing he noticed was that Maya was no longer in his arms. He searched the room frantically until his gaze landed on the balcony, where she stood looking out into the distance, her silhouette framed by an otherworldly glow.
Cassian climbed out of bed and approached her quietly. "Were you able to sleep at all?"
"Yes," she said softly. "A little."
"Have you been awake long?"
"No, I just woke up." She paused, her eyes fixed on the horizon. "I'm still overwhelmed. This place is incredible."
Cassian opened his mouth to respond, but a knock at the door interrupted him. Two fairies entered — one with green skin, the other with pink. They carried armfuls of colorful linen clothes, which they laid carefully upon the bed. One of them spoke in a melodic voice, "The queen will give you an audience. Please take a bath and change your clothes before you see her."
The green-skinned fairy opened a door in the room, revealing a large stone bathtub. The water inside was white and seemed to shimmer with its own soft light. Before Maya could react, the fairy took her by the hand and began pulling her inside — and then, without any warning, started removing her clothes.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" Maya yelped, stepping back. "I can bathe myself. Please, leave."
The pink fairy, meanwhile, was staring directly at Cassian with obvious intentions. Cassian quickly raised his hands. "I can also bathe myself. You can go."
"But we have orders to help," the green fairy protested.
"We don't need it," Cassian said firmly.
The fairies exchanged a glance and finally relented. "Very well. We'll be outside. We'll return when you've finished your bath and escort you to the queen."
"What about our friends?" Maya asked. "Are they coming too?"
"Yes. They are being taken care of as we speak."
With that, the fairies slipped out of the room. Cassian turned and stepped into the bathroom — only to stop dead at the doorway. Maya had already undressed and was lowering herself into the shimmering bathtub. She caught his gaze and arched an eyebrow.
"Are you going to stand there staring at me, or are you going to come in?"
Cassian blinked. "Can I take a bath with you?"
"Of course," she said with a soft smile. "Take off your clothes and come. Unless... you'd rather that pink fairy help you."
Cassian practically tore off his clothes. A moment later, he slid into the warm, strange water and wrapped his arms around her from behind. "I think I prefer you," he murmured.
"Do you?" she teased. "You don't sound so sure."
Cassian laughed, his breath warm against her skin. "Maybe not. Lately you ignore me all the time."
"That's not true," Maya said. "I was just a little busy. I already told you."
Wanting to change the subject, she glanced down at the luminous water. "This water is strange, don't you think?"
Cassian had been utterly lost, watching her, but now he blinked and looked down. "You're right. Strange... though I think everything here is strange."
"I agree. Everything here is strange — but beautiful at the same time."
"Although you are more so," he said softly.
"Beautiful or strange?" she asked with a playful smile.
"Both."
Maya looped her arms around his neck and pressed a kiss to his lips. "You're not far behind either."
Cassian gently pushed the hair back from her shoulders and sighed. "I think we should hurry. We shouldn't keep the queen waiting."
Maya knew he was right. But she also knew that the path ahead was uncertain, and she wanted this moment — this fragile, quiet moment with him — to last just a little longer. She kissed him again, deeper this time, more desperate.
"Just once," she whispered.
"But the queen—"
"Forget about her for a moment." Maya looked into his eyes, her voice a soft plea. "I'm naked in front of you. Do you not want me?"
"Of course I do. You know that."
"Then just think about me for a moment. Make me feel good."
Cassian knew he should focus on their mission. He knew they were in a dangerous, enchanted place with gods knew what awaiting them. But her words broke through every wall he had built. He returned her kiss with hunger, and in that moment, there was no mission, no queen, no danger — only her.

What a chapter! There’s so much to unpack. Cira’s fall into darkness is terrifying and tragic at the same time — she chose power because she was so desperate to be seen, and now something ancient and evil wears her face. Maya and Cassian’s moment is bittersweet, because you can feel Maya’s fear beneath her passion — she’s clinging to him, trying to hold onto something good before the storm breaks. This chapter balances darkness and tenderness beautifully, and it leaves you aching to know what happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

As for what’s next — the queen of the fairy realm is about to meet Maya and Cassian, and something tells me that audience won’t be as simple as it sounds. Meanwhile, Enzo is standing face-to-face with a sister who is no longer his sister, and the power inside her is waking up. Will Maya sense the danger in time? And just what does the queen want with them? I predict we’re about to see a shocking alliance — or a devastating betrayal — and Cira’s new master is going to make her first move very soon.
