Cassian fought with every ounce of strength in his body, thrashing violently against the guards who held him in an unbreakable grip. His muscles strained, his breath came in ragged gasps, but no matter how desperately he struggled, it was useless. The fairy guards were unmovable, cold and silent as stone. And then, the queen gave the signal — the one that made his whole world crumble. The fairy holding Maya in its arms began to carry her away.

"Where are you taking her?!" Cassian shouted, his voice cracking with desperation.

The Fairy Queen stepped forward, planting herself directly in front of him, blocking his view of the woman he loved. Her voice was calm, almost bored, as she answered: "Don't worry about her. Don't let anything bad happen to her. She is where she needs to be — in her home."

"This is not her home!" Cassian snarled, still fighting against his captors. "Give her back to me!"

"She has never belonged to you," the queen replied, her words slicing through him like a blade. "She belongs to herself. It was her own decision to become my servant. So take what you came looking for and go."

"No!" Cassian shouted. "I already told you — I will not leave here without Maya!"

The queen's eyes narrowed with cold patience. "Then you leave me no other options."

She beckoned to the fairy holding the golden key. The key was placed in her slender hands, and she approached Cassian. With deliberate grace, she slipped the key over his neck, let it rest against his chest, and then touched his forehead. A faint, eerie glow pulsed beneath her fingertips as she murmured, "I will have to force you to leave. Go back to your people, and do not set foot in my kingdom again. You have exhausted my kindness."

Dantriel stepped forward, his voice gentle and pleading. "Your Majesty, please, don't be so harsh. He is still young — he does not know how to control his emotions yet. Please, at least allow him to say goodbye to her. It will be the last time he ever sees her."

The Fairy Queen considered Dantriel's words, and for a moment, the air hung heavy with uncertainty. At last, she nodded. "Bring her here. Let them say goodbye in peace."

The fairy carrying Maya turned around and brought her back. The queen ordered the guards to release Cassian, and the moment he was free, he lunged forward and snatched Maya from the fairy's arms. She was pale, her breathing shallow and uneven — she looked utterly exhausted. He pulled her against his chest, wrapping his arms around her as if the world itself was trying to tear her away from him. He pressed his lips to her ear and whispered in a voice thick with emotion: "I'm not leaving you here. I'm not leaving without you."

Maya's heart felt as if it was being crushed inside her chest. She wanted to speak, to convince him to leave, to save himself — but the words caught in her throat, choking her. In the end, all she could do was hug him back with every scrap of strength she had left.

He gently took her face in his hands, tilting it up so her eyes met his. His thumb brushed away a tear she hadn't even felt falling. "I'm sorry," he said, his voice trembling. "I shouldn't have transmitted to you."

Maya shook her head desperately. She wanted to tell him it wasn't his fault, that none of this was his fault — but he kept going.

"I'm sorry for being such an idiot," he continued, "and for not realizing what I feel for you until now. I'm sorry, Maya."

She answered him the only way she could — she leaned forward and kissed him. It wasn't a soft, gentle kiss. It was an abrupt collision of mouths, fierce and hungry and desperate, as if they were trying to pour every unspoken word into each other. She touched his face, her fingers tracing the familiar lines she had come to love, and her eyes told him everything her mouth could not. They told him how much she loved him, how much she had always loved him.

But time is a cruel master.

"Your time is up," the Fairy Queen declared coldly.

And then, in an instant, Cassian's body began to fade. Dantriel and Ethan's forms were dissolving too — the queen's magic had activated, teleporting them all out of her kingdom. Cassian desperately tried to hold onto Maya, but her hands slipped through his like smoke. The last thing he saw was her face, her tear-streaked cheeks, her trembling lips.

Before he disappeared completely, he locked eyes with her and made a vow that would echo in his heart forever: "I'll come back for you, Maya. I promise."

Cassian materialized in front of the palace doors, landing hard on his knees. The fury in his chest was a living, breathing thing, burning through his veins. He was furious — at the queen, at the world, at his own helplessness. Ethan approached him cautiously and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay?"

Cassian roughly knocked the hand away, his voice exploding with raw anger. "Do you think I'm okay?! Maya — she had to stay behind just so I could get that damn key!"

"Staying was her choice," Ethan said quietly.

"Don't give me that stupidity!" Cassian snarled. "I just want her back!"

"I'm sorry, but that's something I can't help you with."

Cassian rose to his feet, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached. He squeezed the key hanging around his neck until the edges bit into his palm. "Then I'll go back for her myself. I don't plan on abandoning the woman I love."

"This is not the time to do crazy things," Ethan warned. "Do you want me to abandon her?" Cassian shot back. "I didn't say that—" "Then what are you saying?!" Cassian cut in. "There are more important things to attend to right now," Ethan said carefully.

Cassian looked at him with fire in his eyes. "For me, she *is* the most important thing."

And before anyone could argue further — a deafening **BOOM** erupted in the distance, shaking the very ground beneath their feet. The invisible barrier that protected the kingdom flickered violently for a moment, as if gasping for air.

"What was that?" Ethan and Dantriel asked simultaneously.

Cassian stared at the sky, his expression turning grim. "Nothing good."

Without another word, he ran. He found his brother Alessandro in his office, meeting with Gabriel and Sirius. "Brother, what's going on?" Cassian demanded.

Sirius was the one who answered. "King Venobich has attacked our barrier. We've been lucky, though — the barrier has held."

"This has nothing to do with luck," Cassian said darkly.

"What do you mean by that?" Alessandro asked.

"That attack wasn't meant to break the barrier," Cassian explained. "That was a provocation. King Venobich is testing us."

Gabriel stepped forward, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. "I think it would be best to organize our army. We should attack and finish them off before they finish us."

"No," Cassian said firmly. "That is exactly what King Venobich wants us to do. He wants to lure us away from the palace."

"So we just stay here and wait for them to break through all our defenses?" Gabriel demanded.

"Of course not," Cassian replied. "But if we march our entire army to the site of that attack, they could be waiting to ambush us. We have to be careful." He turned to Sirius. "How many more attacks like this can the barrier withstand?"

"A few," Sirius said. "The barrier has been reinforced. And beyond that, we've set up multiple layers — several barriers stacked one after another. Even if they destroy the first, they'll find more waiting for them. Reaching the palace will not be easy."

"And if they manage to destroy all of them?" Alessandro pressed. "How much time would that buy them?"

"A few months," Sirius said. "Maybe one or two. It all depends on the strength of the enemy."

Alessandro exhaled slowly. "That's a relief. That gives us time to better prepare our army." He turned to Gabriel. "Call a meeting with all the generals immediately."

"As you wish, Your Majesty."

"Sirius," Alessandro continued, "I want you to inspect the barrier and bring me a full report of the damage."

"I'll take care of it immediately. You'll have the report before nightfall."

"Thank you."

Gabriel and Sirius left the room, leaving the two brothers alone. Alessandro looked at Cassian — who stood there, shoulders slumped, his expression hollow. The fire that had been burning in him moments ago had dimmed, replaced by a heavy, suffocating grief.

"Cassian," Alessandro said quietly. "Are you okay?"

Cassian lifted his eyes. There was no mask, no pretense. Just raw, unfiltered truth.

"No," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Actually, I'm not okay at all."

### Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

What a heart-wrenching chapter! Reading it felt like being caught between two fires — on one side, the searing pain of Cassian and Maya being torn apart, their desperate kiss and his fierce promise echoing long after the last sentence; and on the other, the cold, creeping dread of an approaching war. The emotional depth here is extraordinary. You can't help but feel Cassian's helpless rage, his grief, and his stubborn, burning love. The way he declared, "For me, she is the most important thing," sent chills down my spine. And that final note — "I'm not okay at all" — was the perfect, devastating capstone to a chapter full of turmoil. The writing pulls no punches, and the pacing keeps you breathless. For a chapter that balanced an agonizing farewell with the first rumblings of war, this is masterful work. Yes, there were a few rough edges in translation, but the emotional core shines through gloriously.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

### Next Chapter Prediction

Now that King Venobich has made his move, the chessboard is set for chaos. I predict the next chapter will plunge us into the heart of war planning — with Alessandro and his generals scrambling to fortify their defenses while Cassian burns with a desperate mission to find a way back into the Fairy Queen's realm. But time is running out on two fronts: with the barrier weakening and Maya trapped far away, Cassian may be forced to make an impossible choice between saving his kingdom and rescuing the woman he loves. Watch out — I have a feeling the Fairy Queen's motives aren't entirely honest, and Maya's situation might suddenly become far more dangerous than anyone ever imagined.
