# Chapter 149: We Will Not Die
Hello everyone, it’s me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 149 of "Forgotten Wife: Let the Traitors Kneel Down" — a chapter filled with tense war councils, raw courage, and the terrifying shadow of monsters that now looms over the entire kingdom. If you thought the danger ended with the attack during the dance, think again. Because the real storm is only beginning. Let’s step into the war room together.
The king’s war council was called in haste. Commanders from every branch gathered before Alessandro — Cassian, sitting tall as the general of the first squadron of knights, and among them, Dantriel and Ethan, the representatives of the elven troops. The atmosphere was heavy, not with the usual excitement before battle, but with a cold, creeping dread.
Many of the soldiers were afraid. The attack of those dark monsters during the grand dance had shattered their confidence. It was one thing to fight an enemy of flesh and blood, but quite another to face creatures born of shadow and nightmare. Arthur Kavis, the general commanding the second squadron of knights, voiced what so many of the troops had been whispering in fear.
"Your Majesty, many of the knights have asked if we will face monsters in this war."
Alessandro did not hide the truth. He looked at his generals with unwavering honesty and said, "I will not lie about what we will face. Our enemy is King Venobich, but this time he has monsters — and we do not yet know what other horrors he has prepared for us."
Those words landed like stones in the heart of every man in that room. Arthur pressed on, his voice strained with worry. "Your Majesty, our weapons are useless against those monsters. Fighting them is nothing less than heading to certain death."
That was when Ethan stepped forward. The strange elven leader had no patience for fear. "It is true. Your weapons are useless." He said it plainly, without apology.
Arthur turned sharply, hostility flashing in his eyes. "And who are you? What are you doing here? I thought this meeting was only for generals."
Alessandro answered with calm authority. "I asked them to be present."
It was a direct order from the king, so Arthur had no choice but to fall silent. Yet he could not hide the distrust simmering in his gaze. Especially when Ethan spoke again.
"That is why we will provide weapons capable of killing those monsters. However, only the most skilled warriors will survive. So we will identify who will be useful during the war — and who will not."
Those words were too much for Arthur. His pride as a knight burned, and his anger boiled over. "All our knights are great warriors! If your weapons truly work against those monsters, then we will not die!"
Cassian, who had been watching quietly, rose to calm the rising storm. Arthur looked ready to attack Ethan at any moment, and the prince knew that bloodshed inside the war room would solve nothing.
But doubt still ate at him. "You say your weapons are effective — but how can we trust that your words are truth and not simple deception?"
Dantriel broke his silence. "If what you want is a demonstration, we can give you one. While our troops were traveling here, we caught a creature born of darkness — because we anticipated that something like this could happen."
Arthur shot up from his seat, slamming his hand hard against the table. "You brought a monster into our kingdom! Are you insane?!"
Dantriel remained composed, his voice smooth as still water. "Please, calm down."
"Calm down? You bring danger to this kingdom and you ask me to calm down?!" Arthur turned, trembling with fury, toward Alessandro. "Your Majesty, your duty as king is to protect your people. These people are nothing but enemies of the kingdom! They have brought a monster among us. They are not trustworthy — perhaps they are working for King Venobich even now. They should be taken to the dungeons and interrogated as prisoners!"
Ethan’s face twisted in rage. "We are not on the side of that monster, so shut your mouth."
There was deep, personal rage behind those words. Ethan did not truly know King Venobich, but he hated him with all his soul. That king had stolen the woman he loved and caused her death. The very idea that he could be mistaken for serving that monster was an insult he could not bear.
Alessandro raised his hand and silenced both of them. "Calm down — both of you. Arthur, they are not our enemies. On the contrary, they are our allies. To them, King Venobich is an enemy as well. I have gathered you all here because war is at our gates. But this time, it will not be against men. It will be against monsters. If we do not prepare ourselves, this kingdom — everything we love and everything we know — will turn to ashes. That is why I ask you all to fight by my side against this great threat, to protect our home together."
Alessandro did not command them. He asked them. Because he knew that a warrior without fighting spirit was useless. Forcing men into battle against monsters was like placing a starving wolf before them — they would only crumble. What he needed were warriors willing to give everything, their hearts burning bright with courage, standing beside him with all their strength.
So he turned and faced them all once more. "I ask again: who will remain at my side, protecting our kingdom and our people from the threat that looms above our heads?"
Silence stretched across the war room. Every general hesitated, their minds clouded with fear. Cassian had witnessed all of this. He had thought about leaving to find Maya — but he could not abandon his brother. Cassian looked at those uncertain generals, and despite his own heart aching for the woman he loved, he rose. His voice rang out, strong and clear.
"I will be at your side."
That single sentence broke the paralysis. If the prince himself — young, powerful, and fearless like his brother the king — was willing to stand, how could they cower? One by one, the other generals rose, their voices uniting as one.
"We will also be at your side, Your Majesty!"
The meeting continued for a while longer, planning and preparing for the coming storm. When the discussion finally ended, the entire group traveled to the training camp where the elven army was stationed. Dantriel approached one of his soldiers, ordering him to bring a sword — and to present the creature they had captured on the road.
The soldier obeyed swiftly. He handed Dantriel his sword, then hurried off with several others. They returned dragging a heavy cart, and in it sat a cage covered with a thick, dark blanket.
Then came the sound.
A terrifying, guttural roar pierced the air, making every man’s skin crawl. The soldier yanked the blanket away, revealing a nightmare given form: a creature black as ink, its eyes burning with hatred, its teeth sharp as razors. It thrashed against its prison, howling, desperate to escape — but the cage held firm. The bars seemed to be crafted from the same strange material as the elven weapons.
Every general stood frozen, tense and alert. Even Alessandro felt the cold grip of fear around his heart. He was afraid. Not because of the monster itself — but because everything now rested on a desperate hope. If the elven weapons proved useless against these creatures, then the only one who could truly defeat them would be April. She was the woman he loved. She was his everything. If it meant saving the kingdom, Alessandro still would never allow her to be placed in danger. He would rather lose the war than lose her. Because he could no longer imagine a life without her in it.
The monster roared again, but this time, the men did not run. They held their ground, ready to see whether their meager hope was real — or whether death was already waiting for them all.

Reader’s Impressions & Star Rating:
This chapter hits hard. It’s not just a war council; it’s a clash of fear, pride, loyalty, and the heavy burden of leadership. I love how Alessandro chooses to ask rather than command — it shows how much he values the spirit of his warriors. Arthur’s distrust of the elves is completely understandable, and the tension in that room feels alive. The final scene with the caged monster is wonderfully ominous, and the reminder of Alessandro’s devotion to April adds emotional weight to everything. He’s a king torn between his kingdom and his heart, and that makes him unforgettable.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars
Next Chapter Prediction:
The next chapter will almost certainly feature the demonstration — knights and generals watching in breathless anticipation as one of the elven warriors faces the captured monster with that mysterious sword. But something tells me the trial will not go perfectly. Perhaps one of Arthur’s trusted knights will step forward to test the weapon and be wounded, or perhaps the monster will break free, throwing the camp into chaos. And if the weapon proves real, the question will shift to a far more dangerous one: what part will April be forced to play in this war — and how far will Alessandro go to keep her hidden from it? Danger is coming faster than anyone expects.
