The moment April learned that Maya was at the camp, her heart soared and she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. When the two friends finally met, April threw herself at Maya, wrapping her arms around her as if letting go would mean losing her forever.
"How wonderful to see you!" April cried, her voice cracking with joy.
Maya hugged her back just as tightly, a tremble in her voice. "Aby... I thought I'd never see you again."
"To be honest," April whispered, "I thought the same. I thought I'd never see you again."
A heavy question hung in the air: *What are you doing here?* But before Maya could answer, Ethan's furious voice tore through the fragile moment.
"They're here to take you! That woman is a traitor! She told the Fairy Queen everything — who you are, what you can do. Get away from her!"
The world seemed to freeze. April pulled apart from Maya, shock and confusion painting her face. Maya's expression turned grim with self-loathing. She hated herself for betraying them, for being powerless to stop it.
"April, I'm sorry. I didn't want to betray them, but..."
"I'm sure you had no other choice," April said softly.
"I really didn't want to reveal your secrets to the Fairy Queen, but I couldn't help it. I can't lie. I tried to hide it from her, but she's too cunning. You can't fool her."
Instead of anger, April reached out and took Maya's hands. "I believe you, Maya. After all, you can't lie, right?"
"That's right."
"Then I have no reason to doubt you." And with that, April pulled Maya into another embrace, a gesture of pure trust.
"Thank you for believing me," Maya whispered, her eyes burning. "For trusting me."
"You're my friend. I know you wouldn't do anything to hurt me."
But Ethan was not convinced. He yanked April away from Maya, his voice sharp and accusing. "She's just trying to use you! Don't you see? It's true fairies can't lie, but they can disguise the truth."
Fay, the fairy who had come with Maya, was growing more annoyed by Ethan's attitude. "Fairies with a long life learn to do that. But Maya is just a child. She's new to this life, she doesn't know how to disguise the truth. So stop talking nonsense. She knows she's not lying."
Ethan sneered. "You can't say the same about yourself. You know how to disguise the truth. Nothing that comes out of your mouth is true."
"Elf, this doesn't concern you, so shut your mouth and let me handle this."
Ethan wanted to rip Fay's mouth apart; he even lunged at him. But Dantriel stopped him, gripping his shoulder firmly. "Calm down, Ethan. This is not something a Necla fairy should interfere in. The decision to help you or not is April's."
Dantriel had gone to find them early that morning, but he never had the chance to explain anything. As soon as he mentioned Maya, April bolted. Alessandro followed, and now he stepped forward, his face clouded over. "Can you explain what this is all about?"
"They've come to take her away!" Ethan shouted, still fuming.
Alessandro's expression darkened. He didn't know whether what Ethan said was true or false, but one thing was certain: no one would take his wife.
"I don't care why they came. No one will take April."
"It's not like you have any options, human king. You are forced to collaborate with us," Fay said dismissively.
Alessandro unsheathed his sword, his voice low and lethal. "If you lay a hand on my wife, you won't live to tell the tale."
April stepped between them, her hands raised. "Calm down, Alessandro. Let's listen to what they have to say first before making any decision. Please."
With a deep, reluctant breath, Alessandro sheathed his sword. "Fine. But I will not let anyone separate you from me."
April turned to Fay. "Could you explain to us what you wish for?"
"My wishes do not matter. These are the Queen's wishes. We are currently being attacked by an army of monsters born from darkness. Our weapons are useless against them."
"Do you want blessed weapons?" April asked.
"We don't want weapons — we want your blessing. The Elven royalty never leaves their kingdom; they won't help us. But you're different. They don't know about you yet. You can go to the land of fairies and bless our weapons."
Before April could answer, Alessandro placed himself between Fay and her, his hand already on his sword. "She will not go anywhere with you."
"You're in no position to refuse," Fay said coldly. "If you refuse to help us..."
A massive explosion tore through the distance, followed by the deafening roar of thousands of monsters. Alessandro cursed under his breath. "Damn it. It had to be right now."
"What's going on?" April asked, fear coiling in her chest.
"They're attacking us. I have to go."
He kissed her forehead, a gesture both tender and desperate. "I'll be back."
Then, turning to Fay, he shot him a murderous look. "Don't come near my wife. If you do anything to her, I will kill you."
As the war horns blared, Cassian rushed to put on his armor. Maya approached him, her voice resolute. "Let me go with you."
"I'm going to the battlefield. It's very dangerous. It's better if you stay here."
"No, I'm going too. You know I'm an excellent warrior. Let me help you."
Cassian stepped close, pressing his forehead to hers. "No. Out there is like being in hell. I don't want you to go to a place like that. I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to you."
"The same thing happens to me, Cassian. I don't want anything bad to happen to you. Let me go with you and cover your back. Let me protect you now that I can."
"But—"
Maya silenced him with a kiss, then pulled back with fiery resolve. "I won't accept 'no' for an answer. If you don't let me go with you now, I will leave after you. I will go to the battlefield and search for you until I find you."
Cassian chuckled, shaking his head. "You are a fool."
"But that's what you love most about me, right?"
He kissed her again, tenderly. "Yes. I think that was one of the reasons I fell in love with you. Although right now, I wish you weren't."
"Then you'd better give me a weapon and let's go before they leave us behind."
Fay, seeing Maya about to leave with Cassian, called out to her. "Maya, you shouldn't go."
"If I don't listen to the man I love, what makes you think I'll listen to you?" she shot back without missing a beat.
Fay sighed heavily. "Just don't die out there. You'll have serious problems with the Queen if she doesn't bring you back in one piece."
"Don't worry. I don't plan on dying here."
With that, Maya left with Cassian, her heart on the line.
Dantriel was practically dragging Ethan out of the tent, but Ethan still fought against him, shouting threats at Fay, cursing him, swearing he'd kill him if he dared to touch April.
When everyone had gone, only the two fairies remained — April and Fay. She looked at him with calm, measured eyes. "If the Queen helped you, could she free Maya?"
"Do you want to negotiate with her?"
"Yes."
Fay scratched his head, looking uneasy. "The truth is... I don't think she will accept that request."
"Why not?"
"Because Maya has caught the Queen's attention. She is her favorite. She will not let her go."
"Then you will not have my help."
"You are not in a position to negotiate," Fay insisted.
"Neither will she," April replied, leaving no room for argument.
After leaving the tent, April walked to the entrance of the barrier. The soldiers were prepared, lined up in formation. In the first row, she spotted Alessandro. And beyond the barrier, crawling and clawing, was a sea of darkness — black monsters of every shape and size, scratching and pounding against the magical shield.
April lifted her gaze to the sky and prayed, over and over again, begging God to protect her husband and her friends, to bring them back safe and sound. She repeated that prayer a sinful number of times while watching them from a distance, because a cold, dreadful feeling had settled deep in her bones. Something was wrong. Something was not right.
As she watched the battle begin, she whispered to the wind:
"Return safe and sound. And please... be very careful."

**Reader's Impressions & Star Rating:**
This chapter hit hard in the heart. The emotional reunion between April and Maya was so warm, yet overshadowed by the guilt of betrayal. April's trust in Maya is incredibly moving — she understands that Maya's inability to lie makes her innocent, and that loyalty is a choice far stronger than fear. The tension between Alessandro and Fay crackled with danger, and his vow to protect April no matter what gave me chills. And Cassian and Maya's parting scene? Absolutely beautiful and heart-wrenching at the same time. The chapter balances romance, friendship, politics, and war beautifully, ending on an ominous note that makes you desperate for more.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.9 / 5 Stars
**Next Chapter Prediction:**
I predict that the next chapter will thrust us into the heat of battle. Alessandro will face unimaginable danger on the front lines while Cassian and Maya fight side by side, their bond tested by the chaos around them. Meanwhile, April may make a desperate choice to use her powers to protect the ones she loves — even if it means walking into the Fairy Queen's trap. The "bad feeling" she had won't be unfounded, and someone may not return unscathed.
