April found herself utterly enchanted by the fairy kingdom. Everywhere she looked, there was beauty—glowing meadows, crystalline streams, and flowers that seemed to shimmer with their own light. It was a place pulled straight from a dream. Yet Maya and the others kept insisting, again and again, that this land was far more dangerous than it appeared. No matter how hard April tried to see the threat, she simply couldn’t understand. How could a place so gorgeous hide anything sinister?

While she gently caressed the soft fur of her winged horse, Maya approached her with a warm, steady smile.

"I’ll teach you to ride it," Maya said. "It’s not that difficult, you'll see."

Ethan, ever the protective guardian, immediately jumped in.

"That's dangerous. I'll go with her."

Maya shook her head. "That's not possible. She can only ride one at a time."

"But—"

"Calm down, she'll be fine." Dantriel placed a reassuring hand on Ethan’s shoulder. "Don't exaggerate things."

So Maya began to teach April the proper way to ride the winged horse—how to position herself, how to grip the reins, and, most importantly, how to hold on tightly once the creature took to the skies. Cassian listened carefully as well, following every instruction. Soon, one by one, everyone mounted their winged horses, ready to continue their journey.

Everyone, except Ethan.

He stood there, arms crossed, watching the horses with deep suspicion. Maya raised an eyebrow.

"Are you planning to walk the rest of the way?"

Ethan didn’t answer, and Maya let out an exasperated sigh. Why was he so stubborn?

"Let me tell you something," she said. "There is a long way to the land of the fairies. At a brisk pace, it will take you half a day—and that's even if you don’t get lost. So why don't you stop being so stubborn and ride one of these horses?"

"I don’t like being in the air," Ethan replied stiffly, "depending on a fierce and wild animal that could let me fall at any moment."

"Are you afraid of heights?"

"I didn't say that."

"Then stop complaining and get on one of those horses before they leave. They won't be in this meadow all day, and we won’t wait for you to decide."

Ethan still seemed reluctant. April, noticing his hesitation, gently caressed her horse’s back and spoke in a soft, reassuring voice.

"I don’t think these horses are as dangerous as you think. Why don't you try to get close to them?"

"Okay... I'll try."

Ethan answered, although his voice carried every bit of doubt. April couldn't help but wonder if there was another reason he refused to ride. Ethan pulled a branch from one of the nearby bushes and slowly extended it toward the horses. Several of them curiously moved away, but one—a beautiful brown horse—stepped forward, lowering its head to nibble the leaves from his hand. Ethan stayed completely still, barely daring to breathe.

"Try to touch it," April encouraged.

He reached out slowly and caressed the horse’s nose. To his surprise, the creature allowed it. He looked at April, and she gave him a sweet smile.

"You see? They're not as fierce as you thought. That one seems to like you. I'm sure he'll let you ride it."

Ethan stared at her radiant smile, and for a moment, a strange illusion washed over him. It was as if he were looking at Sophia—her smile, her expressions, her gentle posture. There were moments when the resemblance was uncanny, so easily did he confuse them. But he knew deep in his heart that this was not his beloved Sophia. This was her daughter. He kept repeating it to himself, over and over, yet he couldn’t stop his heart from racing whenever he saw her, whenever he heard her voice, whenever she smiled at him like that.

Finally, Ethan climbed onto the horse. The entire group rose into the sky, and it was only at that precise moment—when the ground fell away beneath him—that Ethan truly realized the reason he had refused to ride those winged horses. He hated heights. His stomach dropped as though it had been yanked downward, then rose up into his throat in a dizzying rush.

"Damn it... why did I let myself be convinced to do this crazy thing?" he muttered through gritted teeth.

The higher the horse climbed, the more fear gripped him. He clung desperately to the horse's neck, squeezed his eyes shut, and wished with all his might that he could feel solid ground beneath his feet again. After a moment, he forced his eyes open, just to check on April.

He was terrified, his heart pounding as if it were about to leap out of his chest.

But for April? She felt the complete opposite.

She was absolutely loving it.

As she soared through the skies, for the first time in her entire life, April felt what true freedom really meant. It was fierce and wild and beautiful—an overwhelming rush that made her heart sing. She loved it. She loved the feeling of having no limits, no barriers, no chains. The wind whipped past her, pulling her reddish hair back and softly brushing against her cheeks. She stretched out her arms, closing her eyes, wishing she could stay in this perfect moment forever.

From above, she saw the world in a way she never had before. The mountains, the valleys, the colorful trees, the meadows covered in soft, inviting grass—it was like a living painting spread beneath her. For a blissful moment, she forgot all the pain, all the problems, all the suffering she had carried for so long. She was alive. She was free. She was intoxicated by this brand-new sensation.

"I wish I could stay this way forever," she whispered to the wind.

She stretched her arms even wider, feeling the air swirl around her, the roar of the wind, the warm rays of the sun kissing her skin. She was so completely absorbed in the beauty of it all that she didn’t even hear Maya’s screams at first.

"April! Don’t do that! You could fall! Hold on!"

Only after several frantic shouts did the words finally break through her trance. She grabbed the reins properly, holding on to her horse as she should. For a moment, she had given her companions a terrible scare—they were all terrified she was going to fall. And maybe it was selfish, but April didn’t care. In fact, she longed to do it all over again. She simply didn’t want to drive the others crazy, so she restrained herself and settled for admiring the breathtaking landscape.

The world looked like a dream from up there. It wrapped around her heart and enchanted her soul. In the sky, among the clouds, April felt the most alive she had ever been. Little did she know, this beautiful freedom was only the beginning—and danger still lurked ahead in the fairy land.

This chapter was an emotional roller coaster—soaring high with April’s joy and heart-pounding fear with Ethan’s hidden vulnerability. Watching April finally taste freedom after so much suffering was deeply moving, while Ethan’s struggle with his mixed feelings added a tender, bittersweet layer to the story. The descriptions of the landscape and the flight were truly vivid, almost like flying beside them. I loved every second of this chapter!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars**

**Next Chapter Prediction:**

Now that the group has taken to the skies and April has tasted such wonderful freedom, the danger Maya warned about may soon reveal itself in the beautiful fairy land. I predict Ethan’s protective instincts will clash with April’s new desire for independence, and the fairy kingdom’s secrets might force them all to make a difficult choice. Could a hidden enemy be waiting to capture April the moment she feels safest? The next chapter is bound to be full of tension.
