Chapter 1123:
Brendon’s heart nearly stopped as he heard the engine roar. With his eyes closed, his mind raced with horrible imaginary scenes. He panicked and couldn’t…
He couldn’t keep up his charade. His eyes snapped open, and he bolted upright, scrambling to his feet.
Leona and Naomi finally got a clear look at the guy. It turned out to be Christina’s lousy ex-husband.
Naomi scoffed, “Good thing he got up when he did. I was this close to crushing his damn leg for Christina.”
“Naomi, don’t do anything reckless,” Leona warned, trying to calm things down. “There are other ways to deal with people like him.”
“I know what I’m doing. I just can’t stand how he mistreated someone as amazing as Christina,” Naomi snapped, clearly fired up.
“Miss Jones can handle her own business. It’s not our place to get involved,” Leona reminded her.
“Yeah, I get it,” Naomi replied, backing off but still glaring daggers at Brendon.
Now on his feet, Brendon glared right back at Naomi. How could this stupid woman want to kill a random man just over some offhand comments? Christina looked at him lazily, arms crossed, a smirk on her lips. “Well, Mr. Dawson, feel free to lie back down if you’re not done yet.”
Lie back down? Hell no. If he stayed there any longer, he’d be leaving in a body bag. Brendon clenched his fists, frustration bubbling up inside. When did Christina get so cold? And so heartless? She looked at him like he was nothing—like she wouldn’t care if he died right then and there. Her iciness truly wounded him.
His voice cracked slightly as he shouted, “Do you really want me dead that badly, Christina? What would you even gain from that?” His eyes were burning with fury—red, raw, and full of disbelief.
“Your death wouldn’t do me any good, and dying at my doorstep would force me to wipe up your splattering blood, which is no easy task,” Christina said, a faint smile curving her lips as she gazed at Brendon.
Brendon felt unbothered when he heard the first part of her words, but the latter nearly drove him into a rage.

Naomi couldn’t help bursting into laughter.
“What are you laughing at?” Brendon barked.
“I’ll laugh if I want to. What’s it to you? Do you plan to control every breath taken in this place?” Naomi shot back without hesitation.
“You!” Brendon was struck dumb, unable to form a reply. If someone chose to laugh, he truly had no right to stop them. But she had clearly been mocking him, and the fact that he couldn’t prove it left him seething.
Despite the fury burning inside him, Brendon forced himself to swallow it down. “Christina, I have urgent business. We’ll talk another time.”
With those words, he turned and slunk away. If he lingered any longer, he feared he would lose even more face in front of onlookers.
