Second Chances in New Port Stephen - Chapter 117

Eli knew how important the Masters’ swim team was to Nick. Over the last several months, he’d
forged tight friendships with a lot of the members, becoming something like a surrogate son to
the older ones. Besides moving away from his dad, leaving the team was going to be the
hardest thing about the move
for Nick. Eli bit his lip, thinking about how much this guy was willing to do for him. He was so
lucky.
Well, no time like the present to show his gratitude. “Hey, I got you something.” He pulled a slim
envelope from the pocket of his basketball shorts.
Nick’s eyes narrowed. “We already traded Christmas presents,” he said slowly.
“This is a bonus gift. A moving gift.” Eli pushed the envelope into his hands. “Come on, open it.”
A printout of an online receipt wasn’t the sexiest gift in the world, but Nick’s eyes widened as he
took it in. “You already signed me up for the local Masters’ team in LA?”
“Well, there were, like, five to pick from, but I found the best one. The queer one, obvs.” Nick
had landed on “queer” as a good-enough descriptor for himself the previous summer. Wide
enough to encompass everything. “And this team’s pool happens to be the closest one to our
condo.” Eli did not mind preening. He was really good at it.
Nick smiled and wrapped him up in another hug. “Thanks, E.” The last year of long-distance
dating had been rough, but it was moments like this that made the trials all worth it. He let his
eyes close and hugged Nick back.
